Mubarak shuts down Facebook, orders brutal crackdown

Egypt’s 80-year-old brutal dictator has shut down Facebook, Twitter, SMS and blogs today as protest grows. Mubarak’s regime is also resorting to brutal measures against protesters who are demanding his resignation. Egyptian police are known to be blood thirsty killers who shoot unarmed Ethiopian refugees in the back. If the protest in Egypt continues to grow, we may witness mass killings of civilians. This is the right time for all Ethiopian political and civic groups to declare solidarity with Egyptians and call for nationwide protests in Ethiopia as well against Mubarak’s partner in crime Meles Zenawi who has imposed a news black out on the uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen.

  1. Another despot that his time is over. The Egyptians have to keep the pressure on him until he is deposed.I hope God give them the strength and wisdom to do so until they put an end to one of the butchers of Africa along side Zenawi,Al bashir,Afework and the like. The tear gas, rubber bullets ,humvees and all the weapons used by the despot’s security forces and police are supplied by the United States,Britain and allies.Egyptians are facing the mighty West in their struggle for freedom. We are witnessing how CNN,BBC and other western media outlets are trying to keep the world minimally informed. However, thank God so far the situation on the ground is overwhelming them.

  2. Elias, again I would like to express my gratitude to you for your services. We all know information is power. And you are empowering the people dispatching events as they are in front of the West’s double standards.God bless you and your efforts.

  3. I think all peace loving Eritreans must join force and must protest against Issays Afewerki as well, who has blocked all news of any riots in Tunisia, Egypt or Yemen. Eritreans this is the time for Ethiopians and Eritreans alike to stand up for our rights and have one big orchestrated uprising against this two tyrants who have been subjecting to nothing but their totalitarian in human rule.Let us rise up and stand up guys, this is our moment, this is our time!!!!!! down with Melese, down with Issays !!!!!. By the way, rumor has it, President Issays is getting ready to come to Addis abeba for the AU meeting along with some other high level officials from Eritrea. So this is another reason to put up a big demonstration. I hope people in addis will demonstrate in front of the AU office, Persident Issays should not be allowed to come to addis abeba, as this will only encourage and bolden their (issays and melese) their relationship to a next level. So we must do all we can in our power to bring an end to this!!!!!!!

  4. With reference to the ongoing political demonstrations in Egypt, the only option left for one of Africas oldest and longest dictator is for him to resign immediately. The greatest asset of leaders be it civil or spiritual leaders is change (Transformation). Mr. Mubarak has trampled on democracy in Egypt for decades, and untouched as long as the west kept a blind eye. This is the perfect time for him to resign HONOURABLE.

But if he fails to respect the demands of the demonstrators and click on to power then an unexpected force hopefully within the army camp will have to step in to put the final nail on his political corfin.

    Best regards,

    Dr. S. Kanu

  5. Mubarek has to go, no question about that. Because he abused democracy. But what about if it is the Muslim extremests taking over? Wouldn’t it be the same as ‘ke-ditu wede matu’. We don’t have to make mistakes again and again. Our views will count a lot in influencing the situation.

  6. Dr.Kanu,

What kind of honorable resignation are you talking about at this stage?Hmm…

You want him to say,”Ok folks, if you guys/gals are SOOOO… angry at innocent me, I the ex-president of Egypt, Mr. Mubarck but NOT Barack from whom I have some times stolen the leadership role of the Mideast events negotiation, affectionately say to you all good bye since I do resign here and now and go to have absolutely pressure less relaxing excursions along the red sea resort areas and sip Vermouth Bianco and Rosso chilled with ice cubes as well as being kissed by pretty and cute nice film stars. Don’t again get jealous again though!)

t Any way, he resistance have sustained itself and went over and above the pain and panic threshold incurring deaths, lots of injuries, lots of imprisonments and entered the critical point of NO return. It is a revolution and that revolution is going to chase Mubarack disgracefully from power if he did not already scape abroad secretly through the back door just like Ben Ali and his own crown prince son. Or else he will might be arrested and forced to be accountable for all the multiple miseries of the Egyptian people that caused their current outrage and sustained revolutionary resistance.

The most interesting feature of the revolution is that it is secular and an all encompassing national uprising exclusively directed at the complete demolishing of the oppressive bad government and bad governance.

  7. Menelik,

Your utter conservatism, blind prejudice and following the sweet official propaganda line is No good. It is dictator Mubarack and his domestic and foreign cronies who label Marack opponenets with all kinds of names.

Mubarack sent his boys to secretly bomb innocent christian minorities but turning back and blaming Al Qaeda just like Meles and his cronies manufacturing terrorists day and night just to keep milking the donor cows and for money and support in power for life.

You may remember the fact that every government in the world some time ago told Palestinians to have free and fair democratic elections so that who ever wins may form a legitimate democratic government. And then all Palestinians, including Hamas agreed to the proposal, laid down its arms went out in full force and full hope for democratic election and the people’s will. Then they won in the full sight and under the observation and watching eyes of the international election observers. Cela vie!

But then, the same governments turned back and said that the winning may not be really counted as a winning for Hamas unless it is won by some other parties. So, where are those winners now? Of course most of them were dead, most of them in jail, etc. Mind you I am not a political at all.

But I am wondering about the double morality and self serving fake black mailings and perpetuating injustices and violence that will never go away but keep coming back for centuries on end.

Even those Egyptian Mulsim brothers were not seemingly interested to join the current resistance but even if they did they can be easily co-opted in to the system just like in Tunisia, if given a fair chance and fair justice as citizens.

Even before that in Algeria exactly similar events like in Palestine one has happened. That is why leaders down there are now sitting on green looking hills with TOO RED HOT active volcanic lava often times attempting to explode out in to the thin air. And it did explode in algeria, soon in Egypt and beyond.

  8. Menelik ,
    So what?!
That is to be left to the Egyptian people. As much as the American people have the right to elect a president like George Bush(in my opinion he isn’t less fanatic than the Muslim Brotherhood),it is up to the Egyptians to elect who ever they want to lead them.To my best knowledge the Iranian theocrats are much more democratic than the brutal butcher who ruled under a military emergency law for three decades.Think about it – every Egyptian under 30 is living under a military emergency rule, deprived of basic human rights in his own country for his entire life.Western tourists visiting Egypt have more rights while traveling there. What a shame!
