Growing number of young Ethiopians embrace religion

By Elias Kifle

While families of the new ruling elite, Woyannes and their opportunist allies, poison themselves with alcohol, khat and drugs, average young Ethiopians seem to be embracing religion more than ever. This is a pleasantly surprising development since they have almost no role model as the top leaders in the country — the patriarch, imam, pastor, president, prime minister — are all crooks. The moral bankruptcy of Ethiopia’s elite is having little effect on the average Ethiopian.

The following are photos showing how young Ethiopians celebrated Timket today in Addis Ababa at St. Urael Church.

  1. As we have heard, So we have seen. In the City of our God: God will establish it forever…..

For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.

    Happy Epiphany for all Christians.

  2. Thanks God who granted as to celebrate the Epiphany. We have a sole models such as the saints, the martyrs and all our fore fathers and mothers. No body who does not end his race never be able our model. That is why are still the members of our Church in deed.

  3. This is beautiful, melkam timket to all. The church remains the backbone of Ethiopian society even at our trying times. Blessed is the Ethiopian orthdox church the guardian of our country. I was able to witness after a recent trip from Ethiopia that, the young is flocking in droves to our ancient churches through out Ethiopia and most of the new churches built in Ethiopia (might I say most elegant and beautiful) are by high school students, college students and workers of all types, this is a great news for our people and our country. The stronger the Ethiopian orthdox church, the stronger the state of Ethiopia is the possibility that the return of rule of law, justice and nationlism to the most deserving people in this planet: the Ethiopian people.

  4. I am so delighted to hear young Ethiopian children are in love with religion, and that religion is, of course, Christianity.

What does Christianity teach the young Ethiopian children? Christianity teaches young Ethiopian children the Holy Bible that says: “Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:11-14).

The Ethiopian children have suffered for over 20 years under the leadership of Meles Seitanawi and his wife Jezebel (Azeb) Mesfin, who murdered the fathers and mothers of several young Ethiopian children and rendered them fatherless and motherless, so they have no place to go, except to lean to religion, which is God’s expression to his children; some of these young Ethiopian children have been sold to foreign agents, and the rest have become orphans, waiting for adaption.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church leaders, including Aba Paulos, have neglected these innocent, wandering Ethiopian young and old men and women; therefore, the Almighty God is saying: “My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them” (Ezekiel 34:7). Do the followers of Aba Paulos and the Woyanne criminals search for the lost Ethiopian maids in the Arab-Muslim world, in the Ethiopian mountains, valleys, caves, and hills, and those who died and still living in the Kaliti jail and in some other horrible places? Not at all!

For this reason, the compassionate God, Jesus Christ, says: “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and has become food for all the wild animals, and because my shepherds did not search for my flock but cared for themselves rather than for my flock,…I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves” (Ezekiel 34:8-10).

Yes, the Ethiopian young children as well as the adults have become delicious food for all the wild animals – the Arabs and even for their own leaders: Aba Paulos, Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi), Jezebel (Azeb), Al Amoudi, and the other Woyanne criminals; therefore, they are accountable for God’s flock – the Ethiopian young children, elderly men and gracious elderly women, and, very soon, the righteous and just God will remove them from tending the sheep – the Ethiopian people – and put someone else, like David after his own heart.

Once again, I am elated that a large number of Ethiopian youngsters are coming to the house of God, to know him, to worship him, to serve him, to fear him, and to love him. And they know now how good God is: “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8). There is nothing that makes me happier than to hear that many Ethiopian Children are going to Church: “I was glad when they said to me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1).

  5. What a beautiful picture and glad that people turn their face to their lord…

since they have almost no role model as the top leaders in the country — the patriarch, imam, pastor, president, prime minister — are all crooks.

I agree with you in this part Elias.

  6. Thank you Elias. At least, I am thankful that there is still a religious right for now in Ethiopia for Christians, Muslims and others. Christian and Muslim Ethiopians please pray everyday for Ethiopia to be free from the hands of evil dictator.
    Melekam Timiket!

  7. @Assta B. Gettu, probably you have good assessment of the situation in Ethiopia. But you know that we don’t have scarcity of knowledge of the situations.May be any farmer on a road side these days knows. Our problem is finding a guy who can come up with ideas on solution for our existing problems.what do you have for that?

  8. We can not save by religion, because there are many, many religions in the world.
Furthermore there is no salvation in anyone else, for there is not another name
under heaven that has given among men by which we must get saved.’ACTS 4 v 12′
HE IS JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH.
    PLEASE READ ‘Jeremiah 1 v 1-10
    may GOD bless you.

  9. I am proud of the youngsters and Kesochachin(Priests) , momes and fathers who kept the true sense of Belive of Amelakachin!!!!
For the writter: I and most Orthodox beliver We realy hate when people are mixing our loved religious assetes with politics. ….Can you please for the future if you write anything about relgious assetes ..it will be a blessing for you if you write only pure relgious page. on the same say if you want to write poletical views …I would rather suggest if you write your free poletical view with zero relgious comments. Please don’t mix our loved relgious assetes with Kentu yhone alemawi negur. ….Thanks. Egiziabhaour ygulusilhu!!!!

  10. anbesaw , Ambesaw Ethiopiawi , Emebet and Dejazmach of Tigray, I hope you are equally excited by the news that the new generation Muslim Youth are also embracing their religion. NO More Ande Ethiopia Ande Riligion. That was ancient history. Now, Ande Ethiopia many religions.

    May Allah protect our Ethiopia!

  11. When I see these pictures, I see Ethiopiawinet is still alive and well. God bless this church forever and ever for being the backbone of Ethiopia and upholding our ancient tradition. God bless this church for preserving anything Ethiopian today.

  12. It is nice to see young Ethiopians turning their face to God the almighty. But what is sad is that your reports are always not fair. There are more young people who go out to celebrate Eid al Fitr, Eid al Arefa and Maulid al nabi and you never cover that. You never post any pictures in your websites. I’m afraid of your un fairness. In one month/december 9-january 11/there were 9 mosques burnt down in Gurage zone and Addis. And that is not your concern. All of us have to try to overcome these problems. By the way I’m happy about the young peoples’ demonstration for Timket and not following their so called patriarc who is a political leader than a religious. Peace be with you all my brothers and sisters.

  13. I would like to tell you that you wrote”growing number of young Ethiopians embrace religion” and this does not represent what we see on the picture. Because there is only a picture of one religion followers. It does not represent all Ethiopians. I think it is better to say “Growing number of Young Ethiopian christians embrace their religion”.

  14. When there is so much poverty people cling either to gun or religion or both. By the way who is the red carpet in the picture? Way too long too. Religion is wonderful, it helps keep society in order but I hope there will never be extreemism of any type. As a non practicing orthodox christian, I am jealous to see people like this. People should be allowed to practice their religion as they wish as long as they do not infringe on other religions. This goes to muslims, jews etc…

  15. ato elias,

Thank you for your great observation as many of the orthodox followers are become a group of emotional who are driven by emotions and a few individuals including priest, pop and other religious clergy while most of them tend to forget that the biding principle is only one and one and it’s bible ….on top of that the current top person of the orthodox religion is a member and part of the criminal member of tplf who is created to destroy our culture as this is the main reason that tplf wants….as a result a lot of religious incites have been ignited from so many groups that are even posted on youtube and other medias to create endless conflict among orthodox , protestant, muslim and other religion followers as this is a best way that is design by weyane criminal group to create endless conflict in order to divide and even destroy our country…..we ethiopian should stand and say no to divisive priests, pops, pastors, shikes and others who are trying to incite a conflict for thier own interst…let ethiopians be smart rather than naive and blind followers

  16. I am glad to hear the good news ! religion will teach the young Ethiopians to love and forgive their neighbours this inturn will cause the neighbours to love and forgive. Who are my neighbours one may ask – they are the ones whome you see and interact every day starting with your residence neighbours to the neighbouring countries. Peace wil prevail in East Africa if all youg people embrace religion all over East Africa. Of course it is all with the blessing of the prince of peace Jesus Chris almighty lord. Amen

May God bless Ethiopia and its people
May God bless Eritrea and its people
May God bless Sudan and its people
May God bless Somalia and its people
May God bless Kenya and its people
May God bless Djibouti and its people

Peace and prosperity to East Africa !!!

  18. #20, Where did you get the idea that Ethiopian Orthodox Church don’t believe in Jesus Christ? You must be one of those people who got brain washed by foreign missionaries and grow up believing that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church members are all idol worshipers.

  19. the communist or EPRDF or Ehapa or Derg generation that do not beleive in christianity will be vanished soon. it is remarkable progress in terms of christianity– especially Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo’s young childeren. the time of our grandfather and grandmothers will come soon. May God bless Ethiopia.

  20. I want to thank you first and most the editor, Elias Kifle, for presenting the news to us specially in pictures. This kind of news presentation is totally absent in the other the so called Ethiopian websites. Therefore, keep up with it. Politics does not mean talking about Meles.

Above all, please pass my sincere Congratulations to the youths of Ethiopia for Returning to God. As the prophet Isaiah said, there is no any other way to salvation but through our Lord Jesus the Christ. These youths know deep in their hearts that they are descendants of Melketsedek, King David, etc.

    May God Bless Ethiopia.

  21. What a lost nation and people!
All these and many others are devoted to their religion which is unproven and doesn’t help for slight development. What if they devote at least a third of this for democracy and development?
It seems compensatory for their fear to struggle the brutal regime, and being religious is for sure a sign of backwardness.

  22. #39 – Fact teller: Don’t be a pessimistic fool. Don’t blame them because they celebrated one of the most celebrated religious holidays. The world is not always about politics and demonstrations only. Also, don’t mix and confuse struggle with religious & cultural ceremonies which is part and parcel of Ethiopiawinet. Wondim zim bleh afehen atkefet – Lehulim gize alew teblual.

  23. what a sign of our bieng!! this is indeed the only true ethiopian surviver…orthodox tewahdo! none like it has managed to survive such a rlentless attack by the enemies of ethiopia THE PAST IS THE REASON FOR OUR SOLID BLIEFE WE WILL OVER COME ANYTHING ELSE THAT MIGHT COME UP ON US, THERE IS NOTHING THE LAND OF ETHIOPIA HAS NOT GONE THROUGH NOTHING!YOU HATERS WHO PROTEND TO BE FRIENDS, HAVE NO DOUBT ETHIOPIA WILL BE VICTORIOUS AS IT IS NOT FOR NO REASON SHE HAS OVER COME ALL HER ADVERSERIES AND DO OPEN YOUR HATING BLIND EYES THAT IT WASNT BY THE POWER OF MEN WHAT WAS THEN IS STILL IS, IT IS BY THE POWER OF EGZIABHEAR…people regardles of you faith or race you need too no infact you HAVE to recognise the FOUNDATION of ethiopia…ETHIOPAI WAS AND WILL STILL BE A CHRISTIANDOM INTO THE FUTURE….this doesnt mean in any shape of form others cant be what they are or practice thier faith..indeed they have existed for centuries just like our towering church!!! so why now do you think you can change the state?? specially MUSLIMS OUR BROTHERS DONT YOU FEEL AS THOUGH YOU ARE BITING THE HAND THAT HAS FEED YOU??? YOU ARE ETHIOPIAN MUSLIMS NOT THAT OF NARROW MINDED ENEMIES OF ETHIOPIA ARABS, YOU ARE NOT ARABS! ISLAM BELONGS TO YOU AS WELL AS ME AS IT IS PART OF OUR HISTORY!! SO HAVE A THINK BEFORE YOU GET CARRIED AWAY AND FILLING YOUR THOUGHTS WITH THE COLONIAL CONCEPTS OF THE SAVAGES(ARBAWIY ISLIMINA), DONT YOU FORGET WHO YOU ARE OK!!!WE ARE NOT CLAIMING ANYTHING THAT WASNT WHICH STILL IS!!

  24. @43: Kindly dont allege the Ethiopian muslim nation as a representative of Arabs or others, as the christians aren’t so for the west. They’re followers of Islam, and will strive to practice the core guidelines of the faith. They do have a natural right which could not be denied, though it’s tried alot. Also for ur understanding, there is islam for arabs, islam for west or for ethiopian. Whoever who surrender to the will of One God, he/she is in the boundary of Islam.

Plus, Ethiopia wasn’t, isn’t, and will not be a christian kingdom. where did u get this myth, is it you who decide most of Oromos, the somalis, the afars, the benishanguls, most of wollo and many traditional religion followers as christian?

just opend ur blinded mind to seek the truth.

Ethiopia is a country of multinational, and multireligious where all of whom must live in equality and injustice.
