Study Shows Amara and Tigre gave world 1st written language

A new study shows that Amara and Tigre merchants founded the ancient civilization of Gebts 5100 years ago and as a result developed the world’s first written language of business and trade.

Gebts represented a prime location to sell their goods and products, which Amara and Tigre merchants appear to have done in the area since 6000 years ago. But the key to establishing the ancient civilization that we all know about was when the Amara and Tigre merchants moved their farms and production into Gebts. Once they did, they needed to develop a way to document workers, wages, productions and sales.

Evidence is found in the word for “writing” in ancient Gebts, “matet”, which of course means, “give a report,” in Amarigna (“mehtat” in Tigrigna).

Using drawn-out objects to represent vowels and consonants, the Amara and Tigre developed a written language that could be used with both Amarigna and Tigrigna. Each vowel or consonant was taken from an object that contained it. Thus a drawing of a leg (“bat”) represented the consonant “b” and a closed lock (“zege”) was drawn for the consonant “z.”

Moving Amara and Tigre farming production into Gebts meant the local Gebts population could be employed as the farming and production labor. This allowed the merchants to generate an economy that never existed before.

But also, moving into the new region stimulated the economy with export sales, since new international markets could more easily and quickly be reached from the north-facing ports of Gebts at the Mediterranean Sea. This was an important opportunity for both Amara and Tigre merchants, as prior to this, Amara had to rely on the Nile River and Tigre had previously done trade primarily through the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf to the south.

As a part of the administration of Gebts by the Amara and Tigre, Amarigna and Tigrigna represented a unique 2-language national written language system.

Surprisingly, the study reveals that Amarigna and Tigrigna were not recently split from each other, as it is commonly believed, and were already distinct languages 5100 years ago. The study also shows that Amara and Tigre culture has remained very much unchanged from 5100 years ago; we use the same words, eat the same food, and share the same beliefs 5100 years ago as we do now.

  1. What was the scope of the study mentioned at the beginning of the article, and who conducted it? More information about it would be most welcome.

  2. How do you define the Ethiopia of “5100” years ago? Are you saying that 5100 years ago destinct ethnic groups known as Amharas and Tigres populated a distict country called Ethiopia and were supplying the world with the first written language?

This may pass as a first great joke of the day. I wish it would have been true!

Please don’t be damn ridiculous and a laughing stock though.

  3. Tazzabi:
Do you deny that civilization started in the Northern part of Ethiopia?
What is wrong with Elias’s report?
Tazzabi,Did you visit ancientgebts.org?read it please.

  4. Please do not be fooled. This is a dirty trick by tigreans just to make a rift beween amharas and others in our effort to confront this blood suckers.Nothing but divide and rule!!

    Bastard tigre

  5. Was the two lingustic groups seperate in the time scale under discussion. I mean did they exist then? Were Amharic and Tigrigna establsihed seperate languages 5000 years ago ? Wonders never end…?

  6. #6. Adeb Gizu says:

    “Tazzabi:

Yes I have visited ancient KABTS and found it to be even more than KABTS which I have expected by reducing the good names of Amharas and Tigres to the level a Kabts thick shiiiit.

  7. Amharic and Tigrigna are split languages as many suggest or cousin language as many suggested making Geez the sister language of the parent of Amharic.

It is hard to beleive this two ethnic groups existed 5100 years ago as separate entity. the acceptable explanation is that a cushutic civilization called Dmt’ or Damot existed perhaphs the parent of the cushtic Agews and Beja or even Oromo/Afar

  8. Is it a study again made by foreigners know nothing about?

The story is true but who and how it was done concluded with wrong assumption.

During that time there was no Amhara, Tigry, Tigre(in eritrea), Silte, Guragee, Harari or others. All of them were/are the same habeha people and were speaking one language which is geez. Because of conflict and war came with Islam, the habesha people lost their natural ground from the red sea to Indian ocean, as far as Sudan, Egypt, Yemen, southern Saudi Arabia, klimanjaro, Uganda, Rwanda and other places.
There is no even a 0,00001% natural difference between such as the Amharas and Tigrians. The same food, the same cloth, the same tradition, the same custom and more importantly the same natural look. They are the same people from the beginning.

If you are an Ethiopian and you are speaking English that is not making you an English man. Although Tigrina and Amharic are siblings from the same parent which is Geez, speaking one of them is not telling the difference in Ethnicity. From the start all of them are the same people and you can call them the same Ethnic too.

If you take for instance Silte, Tigre (in Eritrea) and other languages have lots in common with Amharic. So, the study is wrong isolating these groups from the Geez including putting Amhara and Tigry as two separate people. We all are the same people from the start. Amharic was born first at part of the Abyssinia territory what we call it today Tigry and spread all over by All Abyssinians that are the same people from the start of humanity.

What are the criteria to identify as a separate Ethnic? Is it language? No. Because even blacks that can not at least pretending the language is their because they are blacks and English language is from white people, are speaking English.
Is it tradition, custom, behaviour, face or the likes? Yes, it could be the case. But Tigrians and Amharas are identical exercising all those mentioned above. The only difference I can call between Tigrians And amharas is just speaking two from one family languages with different accent and tone. To me while the whole world is speaking English language that is not familiar at all to the people, region or continent, I don’t see only speaking different languages will determine the differences in Ethnicity or race.
Remember: there are some stupid parents that are not teaching their children their heritage including such as Amhraic but English which is a white mans language and as a blck person they never ever could claim as own, yet those children still are Ethiopians. I can’t say Amharas because I have to say Tigrians, Guragess, Tigres and so one while they are the same people from the start.

There fore stop splitting the same brave habesha people that once ruled the world including creating the writing skill.

  9. I wish you said it ethiopians instead Amahara & Tigray gave world additional written language.
Amhara perceived as an oppressor from old regime & Tigray from the present. Please check

  10. Firstly, who made the research? Secondly, Amharic came into existance only in the 12th century. And about Geez script being the first written language, you must be kidding. It is not the invention of Tigre people but they stole it from the Sabean script which intern stole it from the Canaanite people. If you want to know what language was the first written language, you could ask a 4th grader and they will tell you it was Mesopotamian language. This is not jouralism. This is garbage!

  11. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
    GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZ

Frankly As Amharo-Tigre I also wish it was true, but my mind is telling me it is a lie. It is not true

  12. What you called “Tigre and Amhara” 5k years ago is is not what it is now. May be the title should have been qualified as semitic or semitic and cushitic provided the 1st written language. I believe Amhara, Gurage, Tigre(including Eritrea), had one language.

  13. Robele and Tazabi:
I hope this Robele is not the Ethiopian Hero I know in Ethiomedia.
    Tazabi-tizibt blizibt new.
Any thing wrong with the claim? Why don’t you disprove it instead of being cynical about it? Do you know what Ethiopia stands for? It is a Greek word and it means literally burned-faced equivalent to the word “black.” The Hebrews call Ethiopia “Kush” which also means the same, “black.” So, black may not refer to Amharas and Tigrians only but also generally to blacks south of Egypt around today’s Ethiopia. As to the relationship of Ethiopic to Egypt’s Hieroglyphics, having taken the language for one semester (4 credit hours)I am your first hand informant. Yes, indeed. I am yet to compare what has been written with my text book and I am very excited about it. Thank you Elias for posting the source.
Obviously, my ancestors wrote and read before Europeans did.

  14. A glaring evidence of good old Ethiopia. Ethiopia made the world, all norms and believes we see in Europe, USA and in Asia are from Ethiopia. Contrary to Melesites, Esayasites and other traitors (OLF, ONLF, Egypt, Arab League, Sudan etc), Ethiopia is not a name’s sake. It was called Ethiopia 7000 years agao (Ataba or as the arabs call us Atobia). We have to stand for our history and defend it. We, the Amara and Tigray people are the founders of the world.

    Long Live Ethiopia!
Glory to Amhara and Tigray people!

  15. This is one of those cooked up ‘findings’ by ethnocentric groups or individuals. Just like some of these people in the African-American community who concoct so called ‘historical evidences’ such as a discovery that attests the first high rise(skyscrapers)building was built by black people, Jesus was a black man, Mary(not Jesus mother) was an Ethiopian, Ethiopia was the strongest and largest empire in the world etc…There are so many of them. I got tired of counting them because almost all of them were based on fantasies, day dreams and sheer ethno-centrism. You always ask a question after reading hearing such concoctions: If they were so civilized people then 5-6,000 years ago, how come they are what they are now? Indians claim to be civilized thousands years ago and so do Chinese. And take a look at them now. They backed their historical claims by their current advancement in technology, trade and culture. I know some of you would like to take this as some thing historically self-evident so you can take it home and keep on fantasizing. Stop indulging yourself in such harmful concoctions. You need to be practical and teach those people back home to be practical. Tell them to get up and tear down those hills and mountains to harness nature for their well being. The means are found right there in their own surroundings. Build micro dams every where needed. Go out and build roads with your own bare hands. Keep yourself and your dwellings clean. Wean yourself from trying to be the Obama of every household. Leave politics to those who want to be so. You peasants and urban toilers get up and change your surrounding to improve your livelihoods. Believe it will not only benefit you in your lifetime but it will also leave behind a more habitable place for the generations to come.

  16. let us assume this historical expression as true and ask the following question. if we cliamed our forefathers are pioneers to introduce civilization to ancient world, what kind of explanation will be offered for contemporey ethiopian economic ,political ,and intelectual pains?in my judgement ,the historical lecture which is given to refelect ethiopian supermecy in their era seems to me a matter of historical controversy ,thus it subjected to different interpretation. i beg my excellency pardon to those who are offended by my perception.

  17. People confuse Tigre and Tigrinya Eritreans, with Tigray Ethiopianss…here’s the facts.

Tigre — 95% Muslim — Population: 1.6 million and live in Eritrea’s lowlands —Language: They speak Tigre, the purest form of the Geez Semetic language still being spoken in the Horn of Africa.

Tigrinya –95% Christians— population 2.2 million and live in Eritrea’s highland—-Language: They speak Tigrinya, a language that is the 2nd purest form of the Geez semitic language still being spoken.

Tigrays—93% Christians—Population 4.9 million and live in Ethiopia’s northern borders called TIgray—Language: They speak Tigrinya, BUT, it’s a VERY different dialect Tigrinya of which the Eritreans speak. The same way u can tell an Australian man’s English accent from a New Yorker, it’s the same with them…Also, Eritrean Tigrinya use a lot more vocabulary and an even more complex words than Tigray Tigrinya…Tigray Tigrinya is poor, due to centuries of having to speak Amharic as their national language which has caused the language to be watered down and infused with a lot more agew.

There you have it, the three Tigre, Tigrinya and Tigrays…don’t confuse them with one another.

  18. dear tawfiq , i understand your concerns ,but without history it is impossible to predict the future. history must be toled to new generation repeatedly to shape their psychic and to boost their ego and to say themselves “yes we can”. i respectfully disagreed with ur intolerancy of hearing history ,specifically ethiopian history.in many cases ,bad government and poverty go hand to hand.we must strive to govern our ethiopia not by individuals ,but by law. only then prosperity ,love and peace will be possible.the era of me must be abolished. when we work together for one common purpose ,we can achieve anything we want to achieve.

  19. What’s wrong on telling the truth?Nobody can deny that Tegrigna and Amarigna is simillar. The study focused only on the two languages and come with the above analysis.I don’t see anything wrong.Let’s be open to learn about our history.Don’t go to your usual negative comments. You are more than welcome to make your studies and come with a different analysis.I can’t believe how many insecured people we have.

  20. IT BELONGS TO ALL ETHIOPIANS NOT TO CERTAIN PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP!!!!!!. It is our heritage, our identity as people of one nation. This report is purposely targeted in dividing the Ethiopians along Ethnic line. We, as an Ethiopian, need to resent such divide and rule colonial tactics and careful not to fall into their trap. What is the difference between Meles’ declaration some years back “the historical significance of Axum is only to Tigreans and has no relevance to other Ethiopians” and this article?

  21. my goodness, what a worthless “study”!!!!!!

Ethiopia as a country existed not earlier than 3000 years ago. Even this is disputed by some.

This “study” is talking about 5100 years ago which is almost 2 times way back as 3000 BC.

Lately, quite a number of “studies” are being done by some suspicious “experts.”

    Something fishy is going on….

  22. SOMETHING FISHY!

Embatteled Wayane is organizing and infiltrating hardcore chauvinists from both sides of the river in order to withstand the pressure from its colonialist misadventures, and the mounting domestic and oppostion pushes as george will soon leave office, a situation that may render the minority dictator as an isolated orphan. This is only an evil orphan seeking alies for commiting crimes.

  23. I have not yet read the article but just from the title, I cann’t help asking if there were Amhara & Tigres 5000 years ago? I thought these people came into existence (as Amara & Tigre) since 1500 years ago. Not more than that, am I wrong?

  24. before 5000 years amara and tigre never exist.Find your roots.Ask yourself why you are underdeveloped, and stagnant feudal mentality. The geez come to you by some ancient arabic, hebros and grece.

  25. Hi Comchambawe,

Listen and for heavens sake I am beholding you!

Stop blaming others exclusively for the poverty and misery that engulfed that most populous nation in the Horn of Africa. You know better and a lot of us intellectual know better. I don’t think we had had any government that was or is bent to go to war if the people focused on embettering themselves economically. Did Menelik, Iyasu, Zawditu, Haile Selassie and the regimes that followed sent their army to massacre and wipe the Gurage people for creating means in the merchandizing area to improve their livelihood? Aren’t they still striving? Remember some of those regimes could be outright killers if they thought they are threatened politically. Look at what Japan did after WWII. Look at what Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea have all done just in the last 15, 20, 30 and 50 years!!!!Read their history and you will know I am talking about. Every Japanese was affected by the results of the WWII and was in the middle of utter devastation. They did not hold their heads down in disappear into the oblivion of depression. Before and during the war every Japanese whether gifted or not was pushed to be involved in some of sort of active politics. Factories were politicked; farms were fanatically politicked; they were told to follow a specific political line. And they did. After the war they realized that they also were to blame for the destruction that befell the entire country. They changed the course and left politics to be fought by politicians and focused on the daunting task of self improvement. They used every penny of outside help to improve their schools, build factories almost from scratch and all other amenities needed for modern industrial development. They used very penny they received and earned wisely. After 30-40 years they become an economic force to be reckoned with. Other Asian countries I mentioned did the same thing. I am being told since I was a child that Ethiopia has the 2 or 3 largest number cattle, goats and also water resources. And yet people continue to die of starvation and diseases that can be prevented. Menelik was blamed post-mortem; Haile Selassie was despised during and after his demise and blaming continue unabated by the very intellectuals who are still doing nothing but continue to blame the other guys. Learn from what that boy from Silte who comes to Addis empty pocket and with persistent hard-working was finally able to buy out that very store owner who lent him the first commodity. Did Haile Selassie sent his well armed soldiers and wipe the entire Silte clan? No!!!!No!!!! Who taught that boy from Silte to be a business strategist? He just does not give up and he does not give a hoot what those knuckle head ‘politicians’ are mumbling about. He will laugh himself from being a listro to having a ‘souk-bederetie’, being a shop owner and all the way to the bank!!!! Kkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!. Can somebody talk to this boy!!! Hello PHD’s. Get a life!!!!!
Mr. Eias… I am also beholding to let this heart-felt comment posted on your very valuable website.

  26. This is a bit “over the top” as they say in some English speaking countries. Amharic was formed in the 12th centaury by the soldiers of Lasta who tried to communicate amongst themselves without divulging what the soldiers were talking about to the common people. Prior to this period, Giez was spoken in much of Ethiopia. By the way, Giez and Amharic were like English and Pigeon English spoken today by the Jamaicans. Amharic spread like a wild fire throughout Ethiopia, until Gragn Mohammad, converted to Islam and equipped with the Ottoman Turks ‘ guns, ruled Ethiopia for eight years, forcing everyone who used to speak Amarigna in most parts of Ethiopia including Wollega to adopt and Oromigna and follow Islam. I am proud of the Amharic and Tigrigna languages and equally proud of Oromigna and all other languages of mother Ethiopia.

To say that Amarigna and Tigrigna were the languages of ancient Egypt is a little “too rich”. That said, I would like to thank Elias for posting this interesting article and enabling us to say what we think about the evolution of our languages.
    Tenayestilign

  27. Dear Elias,

I applauded you for posting my previous article. I hope it will incite some serious and genuine debate and discussion free of name-calling and diatribe. I came to realize how we can be expedient and sharp-tongued in calling honest people terrible names. As the situation correctly depicts, there are not that many valuable intellectuals per quota that move the country forward. If any, they are somehow wrongly despised for their honest remarks and comments. Some of have decided to engage in personal mission to advance themselves often ending in utter destruction of people’s morale and lives. What a pity!!!! I urge and call upon all genuine compatriots to put a freeze on name-calling for a period of at least 5 years and in stead focus on how to send non-political messages to the people on how to improve their daily lives with what their surroundings provide. In stead of sending political pamphlets, let’s send them educational materials to transform them into nature tamers. Didn’t someone tell me some many times before that the country is well endowed with natural resources? Are all those rivers I used to see the whole time I was growing up gone? Even those dry-bed rivers that used to teem with raging waters during the rainy season? Are they gone for ever? In stead of opening another poison factory (beer), why not a smelting facility? Why not a molding and forging factory? Mr. Elias…Please help me understand these people. Why on earth they put so much money to make the same poisoning beverage already being made enough to intoxicate 100,000,000 people? To make money? Off destitute people? I am not saying they should be forbidden. I am a strong believer in market economy. Let their success be decided by the market. But they should feel responsible. I recall an article I read about one of our past rulers in which he told off foreign missionaries. He told them that the country had enough preachers and bible. What he needed were smiths and engineers. I think he was right. He was not right in his actions for lack of subtle diplomacy. I hope this comment will instigate some serious, genuine and constructive discussion

  28. I am very proud Ethiopian but I am sorry, as much as I love my mama Ethiopia, I believe in know sources of information that is legitimate. From politics to Anthropoloy, sociology and history we need to have a good source information or it will be looking like a fairytale.

    Erik Kowal says:
What was the scope of the study mentioned at the beginning of the article, and who conducted it? More information about it would be most welcome.

Elias seems to love the controversial issues. Or am I being cynical? I don’t know.

  29. An Oromo inventor brought that writing to the 21st century, by inventing the first type writer for so called writing. The great Oromos minds, and their inventions are numerous to list. Without OROMO Ethiopia is scattered donust with huge hole in the middle. Refer to Ethiopian map. Oromos ought to be celeberated with the rest of diversity. We must value incompass, value, respect, Oromos as people.

  30. dear-tawfiq ,what sadden me the most is that our energies have wasted on unnecessary verbal dispute.we as a society have faild to have insight of justice in every terms. i am who i am because of not only by my own efferts ,but also other people help.eventhough u have a liberty to form opinion ,u have to be responsible for ur comments both legal and moral reasons. to say that identifing past errors is nothing but a blame is a coward and irrational comments that have no place in modern society,at least in my judgement.the question is not about me and u ,but all ethiopians.what could be done to change the life and thought of ethiopians? in many cases ,bad goverment and poverty are two sides of one coine.for this reason we must critisize bad govrment untill it’s free from bad judgements. first and for most ask yourslf what u have done to your country before accusing other not doing enough. whether you like it or not society needs to have authorty.to have postive impact in society ,these authorties must have a burning desires for change.your proposition which glorifing “the me doctrine” can only be workable in perfect society. our land have been experienced deficency of knowledge for many centuries and thus the intellectual ethiopian community must ask questions in order to have solutions. to propose a remedy for sickness without bothering to investigate the cause is unreasonable methdolgy.

  31. Hello comchambawe,

Thank you for your comment. I would like to mention a few things that have been done so far in which I play a leadership role.

Invested in companies which have set up small scale fabricating facilities there and other African countries. Have personally made contribution in hard currencies and material; I am involved in intense negotiations with experienced companies to open manufacturing facilities there. This involves fabrications of plastic and metal products that can be domestically and sold in the western markets. Remember some of Chinese job market is starting to dry up. We will do more when the trade policies and red tape here and over there begin to loosen up. Believe me we will never open another Tequila factory. May be burrito and tortilla factories!!! Get it!!!! You sound to be a well rounded and intelligent man. I am sure you will use it in a way to alleviate the well being of those very proud people. They have suffered enough. They are intelligent people. Just look how they learned a lot of modern things from a 5-year occupation by fascist Italy? They learned by watching closely what the occupiers were doing. That ability to learn is still there. It just has been covered by years of mismanagement and shortage of pioneers; I hope I don’t sound negative to you. I mean no harm. Take care.

    Thanks again Mr. Elias.

  32. First, first thing first. When God created man,the home chosen was Ethiopia;hence Luci or Dinknesh.

God words are Ethiopia and Ethiopia is God words. History doesn’t lie or mishchief; it is why the world is always depending on fact and figures when it comes civilization and innovation.

The contribution made by our ancesstors has always been helpful in knowning and learning about what makes us human beings and what makes the world both spritual and physical.

The world can’t be talked about or can not be described with first talking about the origion of human beings and the core source of knowledge and creativity. In this regard, Ethiopia is or has been the center of nearly everything. Amen.

  33. brother tawif, discourse with good faith is good to our society since our objective is to creat a democratic ethiopia. the path to democracy is to have diverse ideas with respectful disagreement.i am really proud of ur service to ur country. i beg ur excellency pardon if my comment and opinion offended u.i also thank brother elias for giving me the opportunity to account my point of view.

  34. Dear comchambawe and Elias,

Thank you both for the opportunity you presented to me regarding some cardinal issues regarding our country. Nothing is more satisfying than the fact that you have done some thing material by which you have given that proud man or women am opportunity where he/she has earned the money to feed a family or two. Nothing at all. After you are realized that, every meal you are having here never tasted better. It is a big mountain out there but we have to keep chipping away one small boulder at a time.

Thank you all again and God Bless!!!!

  35. 1. Response to #22
You must be an Eritrean for you have tried to portray Eritrean Tigrnya to be superior to that of Ethiopian Tigrnya. Phony and delusional self-inflating sickness that emanated from slave mentality caused by several decades of European colonization. Tigray’s Tigringa and Amharic are akin to each other because they are both of the same origin (Geez) and the Tigray and Amhara regions share common border and the people share common history and are highly intermingled. Thus, stating that Tigray’s Tigrinya is less pure than Eritrea’s due to the former’s similarity with amharic is illogical and wrong. Rather, since Eritrean Tigrnya is highly influenced by Italian and Arabic languages(which are totally foreign), it is not only impure but also hybrid.
The English people speak English, the Amhara speak Amharic, the Oromo people speak Oromigna and the Tigray people speak Tigrina. The Tigringa spoken by the christian highlanders of Eritrea has orginated from Tigray as the name implies. Logically, the Tigringa speaking of highland Eritrea ought to be named as Tigreans/Tigray just the same as the Amharic speaking pepople are called as Amhara. However, due to the malice they have towards the Tigray people and other Ethiopians, they prefer to be called as Tigrigna which is a language name rather than an ethnic name (similar to calling the Oromo people as Oromigna).

  36. Tawfik is Debebe zeleqe from Ankober. He is shamelessly counting Iyasu & zawdiytu as Ethiopian leaders, and he does all this gimmickry even if he knows that they had ruled for sometrhing worth 2 weeks each . He is trying to shore up his chance-earned shawan , or the shew-shew type of pseudo-dyasty of the Bihere zeleqe-weleqes ; a menial tribals which, unfortunately , with the help of anglo-italo-franko power was temporarily enabled to steal power from the legitimate solomonoid Tigreans .

  37. Dear Mr. Elias and comchambawe,

Do you know what this guy by the name jokerfast shown above is talking about? Is he sober of drunk? Where did he get this name Debebe Zeleke for me? Ankober? I wish I was born there just because it is mentioned in many historian books a lot. This is what I am talking about. He does not know me and he never saw me in person. But he has assured himself that I am someone he knows from Ankober. God save this country of 80 million and May God bring this guy to his senses. He is saying something like anglo-italo-franko…Tigrean solomonoid…What is he talking about? This kind of erroneous tongue-lashing honest people will do nothing but harm and it won’t cut the mustard.
    cut the mustard.

  38. I’m impressed by the discovery and proud to be habesha, however not the least surprised. I mean, we live in one of the oldest and most historiacal (both religiously and scientifically) location on earth, so it is to be expected. I was in Ethiopia at the start of the year so wnet to Axum to check it out. Some of the things I saw there were freshly on display as they had only been discovered a feew weeks prior.

I wouldn’t mind finding out more information on the topic though… :O) Quite interesting

  39. This is total bullshit as has been pointed out by many readers. As an Ethiopian of Tigrean decent, I knowingly accept that there is no little to no cultural difference between the semitic speaking people of the horn, including those of our Eritrean cousins. There are only stupid political differences which God willing will come to an end one day so that we can move into the 21st century! Rubbish article

  40. habasha people are the only people on earth who can take point of view and make it to a political fight. who really cares what happened 5000 years ago, when we are living today. but not say i find it being an interesting read, which opens up lots of questions, that can be debated in more civilized manner…

  41. For a person like me who shares blood from Oromo and Amhara ethnic groups, this is so annoying and painful. I want the two bloods to live in me with love and respect. No offense, I am a true symbol of Ethiopia- a land of unity and freedom (that is actually a mystery to the whole world). As being proudly Ethiopian, I can’t tolerate these narrow minded individuals who try to abuse and manipulate my people living with unspeakable suffering. I know because of western education we all have got politically criminal-mind.

Good lord please save my country from the people who want to lead Ethiopia blindfolded and with their animal instinct.

    Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
    …..
    …..

    Wont you help to sing
    Dese songs of freedom? –
    cause all I ever had:
    Redemption songs –
    All I ever had:
    Redemption songs:
    These songs of freedom,
    Songs of freedom.

    Bob Marley
