Ethiopian-U.S. investors plan $37 milliion brewery

EDITOR’S NOTE: Yes, more beer is what the people of Ethiopia need now. What a bunch of idiots.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – A newly established Ethiopian-U.S. investment group said on Tuesday it was building a $37 million brewery at Maichew, in the northern Tigray region.

Michael Gebre Mariam, chairman of the Ethio-American Investment Group, told reporters production would start by the end of 2010, and that the facility would have the capacity to produce 30 million litres of “Raya Beer” every year.

He said the site had been chosen because of a suitable water source nearby, and that the company planned to grow barley on 15 hectares of land it bought adjacent to the brewery.

The Ethio-American Investment Group, which has its headquarters in Duluth, Georgia, was set up this year by 25 Americans of Ethiopian origin, he said.

    Beer sells. It is an investment for them and like someone else stated somewhere in this forum, being Ethiopian American makes them feel they can call on uncle sam should something happens to the country. So, beer, girls sell very well in Addis where it is frequented by so many guests. sad but true!

  4. I dont think it is true. Woyane is addicted to fabricating good news through its 24/7 propoganda mill to cover the ugly truths of its adminstration manifesting itself in the form of chains of hunger, famine, genocide and the like.

    If true, i cant imagine how retarded these woyane/tigray beasts are.I think they seriously misunderstood ethiopians. Ethiopians will not buy woyane made beer period!!

    I hate Woyane but not the beer factory because the place where the factory is to be erected is an area long been marginalized by TPLF elites, better to call them “chauvinist”

    Just to remind people that the creation of “independent Tigray” has been in the works for the last 20 plus years and specifically since 1991. It is also true that since the Weyane regime deported thousands of Eritrean from Ethiopia as a threat to Ethiopian nation, the Weyane and its surrogate supporters have been worried with the fact that they themselves have introduced deportation and confiscating properties of people who they claims to be a threat – and they live in a nightmare that the same thing may happen to them when the dust settles. That’s why – the Weyane are robbing Ethiopian wealth day in day out and ship capital to countries like UAE “Dubai” and other western nation so that the evil act they committed won’t happen to them. This is one issue they fear the most and my information tells me a lot Weyane have moved their capital oversee while incurring a huge debt in Ethiopia. Most of these thugs have bought properties in emerging markets like Dubai where laundered money is difficult to trace. They can fly to Dubai with millions in hand – while they are leaving Ethiopia in dire situation.
    It is also true that when all Ethiopian business people are denied foreign currency to do trade, those connected to the regime have the access to bring products to the market. So – let’s not be surprised what they have done in Tigray – the question is will they be able to eat it. It is stupid to think that raw materials brought from Djibouti could be transported hundred miles north, assembled or manufactured and shipped it back south to Addis or other cities and expect us to believe that these products will be competitive to products that are made within the market region. Yes, they play the tune for now and people may dance to it – because it is the only music that is played now. Eventually, there will be a new band in town and the tune will change and Weyane and their supporters will have no choice but to dance to it. But this time – they will be dancing for 400 yrs and not 17 – 20 yrs.
    It is also obvious that if Weyane was not thinking of splitting Tigray from Ethiopia, why was it needed to expand and annex a land that belongs to Begamder? Does it really worth the animosity created between the Gonder people and Tigrian? If it was to be treated as one country why was the rush? The answer was obvious and the whole seventeen years Weyane has been thinking of separation and they made sure that they inserted a clause in the constitution to facilitate that reality. A lot of Ethiopians thought it was made to make Eritrea an independent state. But the truth was that – Eritrea has become an independent state by force and there was no power to reverse it. The right to succeed was custom made to the Tigray region and no other ethnic or regions could use that clause at all. Can you imagine if Oromo used the constitution to separate from Ethiopia before the entire beer factory, cement factory, medicals factory and other industrial or institutions are built in Tigray? I don’t think so – the rest of Ethiopian regions have to pay for the development of Tigray and once they have everything, then they will say adios Ethiopia. The only one country that is on its way from been an independent state is Eritrea. As long as Eritrea is strong – Tigrian independence will be on hold and the Weyane will try to govern Ethiopia as much as they could and continue to rob it its wealth while 1000 of Tigray youth are trained to be a leader in political activities as well as in industrial activities. Can you imagine if they send 1000 Weyane youth to an oversea university every year for the last 17 years, then by now they have 17,000 doctors, engineers and business graduates to be used in the creation of Tigray. I am sure the number s double or triple.
    You may have also heard they have discovered the Queen Sheaba palace in Axum. Why is it necessary to search it? If it is pure historical activity – I would say good job. But my gut tells me that it is a coordinated effort to bring nationalism in Tigray and make them feel that they are more suprior than the rest of Ethiopians. One would also question – if Queen of Sheaba story was real and her palace is found in Axum – then how would she go to Israel from Tigray without an access to the Red Sea. So my feeling is they are going around and around and to claim that they have the right to the sea. But their leaders can’t say it openly. They have to find a war.
    The world does not leave in a reality of empires that were demised 2000 yrs ago but rather in reality of 50 – 100 yrs ago. If what the Weyane think is accepted, then the whole world has to be re alliened again. Imagine, USA giving back Texas, Arizona, California, and other 3-4 stated to Mexico. It is a known fact these states were Mexican asset until about 150 yrs ago. What about the Outman Empire. Well – they have to be awarded most of the middle east including massawa to Turkey, and maybe Yemen has to be given to “Ethiopia” too. Forget the continent of Africa – we have to get kill each other to find the pre-colonial boundary.
    Just to sum it up – Eritrea was created from south to north and any assertion that Port Assab belong to “Weyane” OR “Ethiopia” is self cheating. Italian army first arrived in Assab and with the invitation of the British government; Italy was asked to take over Massawa from the Egyptian and from there on the country called ERITREA was created. It is that simple. You do not see Ethiopia in this transaction at all.
    I always wonder why dream about Eritrea when the Derge hand over independence of Djibouti in 1975/7? I feel like Djibouti is more Ethiopian because Ethiopian King has agreed that the French rule Djibouti for 99 years which ended in the 1970’s. I feel that the heroic Ethiopian Kings were afraid of the seas and they made sure they were without it. A peaceful island without a port!!!! No port no foreign invasion. It makes to me. Adios

  11. Is it an investment? If so,great!
    But what is more important is its site. Raya Tigray has been long dejected by the TPLF’s Agame elite. Deqi raya and thier home region were betrayed at the end of the struggle. It appears that the Agame’s realize thier past crimes on the region and are starting to redress it.
    Anyway, though it came as a surprise to me, Raya does deserve more. Raya Tigray is where Woyane Tigray was born, nurtured and brought up.

  14. Guys we should clean our house first before pointing our figure….

    Why not ban BEER from ESFNA… EVENT beside this event is family event and alot of childern are coming to see the sport… then why we need beer in that event… even after sport event beer finished and the party start we should ban or limit the beer cultre before we talk BS about Ethiopians.. in fact if we ban beer from our even it will send a big massage to Ethiopian back home. otherwise we are wasting our time telling them not to drink beer while we are drinking it with no limit.
