Ethiopia’s tyrant faces opposition in Copenhagen (video)

Opposition grows against the participation of Ethiopia’s brutal tyrant Meles Zenawi at the Copenhagen Climate Conference this month. Some are suggesting that his place should be rerouted to The Hague for trial at the International Criminal Court.

Freelance journalist Doug McGill, a former New York Times reporter, argues that Meles Zenawi should not be allowed to represent Africa at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15). Also interviewed in the video below: Ethiopian immigrant Magn Nyang, PhD, who speaks of the genocide in his native Anuak region of Ethiopia in 2003.

Filmed at the Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, 4 December 2009 by Chuck Olsen for The UpTake: theuptake.org.

  1. Absolutely agree with these two comentators, that the only representation Mr. Zenawi can do is himself and his small lithal genocidal thugs junta TPLF. Again, he should be rerouted to Hague, world tribunal court, stand trial for mass murders, he Mr. Zenawi is responsible for in and around Ethiopia. If Meles likes can come to global such as this, Melosovic and kim elsiyung should be there too. Meles, is the worst criminal than any person who calls ownself a leader on planet earth.

He is responsible for degradation of forrests in Ethiopia, for unspeakable genocides against hundreds of thousandS.

WHERE IS MORAL VALUE AT GLOBE WE LIVE. THIS IS OUTRAGE AND COMPLICT, NEGLEGENCE BY GLOBAL LEADERS, INSULT TO THE FAMILIES WHO ARE HURT BY Mr. Zenawi who is the Top deadliest criminal fooling the world.

  2. Meles your days are counted. I can smell it. The entire world knows who you are. I wish you to be sentenced with existing laws with which you put all oppostions in jail. Justice for Ethiopia is coming soon.

  3. I don’t mind if we are represented by the Satan himself. At this meeting truth has to be told. Africa is suffering and the west wants us to continue like this. Meles or Milosovich can do the job as long as they stay with in the topic. We can find another forum to express our grievances. Our division has benefited the west. For today I will let the devil represent me. Tomorrow you can hung him. For today the devil is my friend.

  4. Every country knows that he is criminal but no foreign country administration wants to take action. I had hope when Obama elected however one full year he came to power, he didn’t say a word about meles’s crime officially… what a shame it is. Again president Obama you have responsibility, stand up for the people of ethiopian and officially announce your concern regarding meles’s administration!

  5. As they say, “you can run, but you can never hide”. The mindless thugs in Ethiopia have been living by sucking a straw, but the glass is near empty now their end is a lot nearer. The sleazy and unhygienic leader of Weyane makes me nauseous whenever I hear him bubble some street words, because he thinks he can fool everyone. Now he cannot run to the north, because Eritrea will whip his midget self, by the south Ethiopians will crucify him. He will definitely commit suicide.

  6. I want to say something on Mamo’s comment. Look Mamo, as you said this time every country knows that Meles is criminal but they didn,t take actions. Even they know that most african leads are criminals but they didn’t take action.

If you remember the genocide in Rewanda in 1994, the then US president Bill Clinton didn’t take actions to stop the genocide.

I had the same openoin as you said, but later I firmly understand that IT IS OUR RESPONSIBLITY TO FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDON. It is not Obama’s responsibility to fight for Ethiopians. They always think and work for the benefit and safety of Amrican People. And they are absolutly right. Because they are Americans they are are not Ethiopias. Whoever comes to power in Ethioipa, they will work with that government.

It is the responsibility of Ethiopian to fight for their own freedon. That is how poliics works in this world.

But some times individuals from foreign countries are working very hard in fighting the dectatorial regime of Meles Zenawi.

  7. Thank you Doug and Magn. Meles zenawi is one of the most criminal individuals in power. All peace loving people should work together with the international community to bring him to Hague for the crimes he committed against humanity and genocides in Ethiopia.

    Alemu

  8. Obama was just fooling us when he pretends that he stands up with the oppressed people of Africa and he succeed by making us vote for him.Next time we should be careful not to fall for such cheap promise.

  9. Finally somebody is speaking up and listening to the poor and downtrodden people of Ethiopia! Keep it up ER. You have a due role to play in this.
May the truth be spoken and justice prevail in Ethiopia.

  10. The Ethiopian regime is one of the worest abusers of human rights in the entire world. The regime can kill any Ethiopian for no reason. They can put any Ethiopian in jail for any reason. There is no rule of law in Ethiopia. I appreciate the journalist Mr. Doug McGill, for exposing the atorticies of The Meles Zenawi regime.

  11. Meles has organized his cliques in the AU(African Union) to challenge the industralized world. For instance, the two-million-petition signed by his party members and supporters shows that he is committed to win or gain recognition by superpowers as if he were the best thinker and promoter of anti global warming.

Some dictators in Africa, including meles have found a safe heaven to engage in the environmental politics to disguise their crimes against humanity, genocide, and war crimes.
Only few journalists, human right activists and men of high morality denounce the participation of those dictators in the international conferences. They do not want to dine and wine with those inhuman creatures.

  12. Don’t forget Canada, Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries are paying folks to oppose the Copenhagen Climate Conference this month.

I don’t think they are succeeding but let us be careful where we put our emphasis on this issue.

  13. African journalists and government authorities could have been considered to have their say. Where is the fine line? There seems to be some motivation in this video.

  14. Meles is a butcher waiting for his day of trial before the true justice contrary to his “Cangaroo Courts” in which he was proven innocent while hundreds and thousands were murdered by his “Red Guards” who are “defending the constitution” in the no-costitution land.80 million people are in detention but the mould be victorious

  15. it is really a farce!!! shame on the decadent west to have kept on rewarding this blood trusty tyrant. Let alone the african continet Melese zenawi has no moral ground to act as a representative of his own people. I am pretty much sure that this treacherous man is sneaking around this forum for he has sniffed some dollars for his swiss bank acoount. All Tigrians, particularily Melese zenawi have no shame in robbing whatever money they get from any source.

  16. To those folks who are hoping Obama would do the right thing and side with the Ethiopian people, I say forget about it. Obama or any US president for that matter is sworn in to protect American interest no matter what. What I am trying to say is, it is us, the people who should do the struggle and remove this cancer from the back of our people, nobody would it for us. The weyane leader and his handful of bandits are no match to the vast majority of the people he is oppressing, but because of the fragmented oppostion he is having a free ride. When are we going to say enough is enough and get serious?
