ER “2009 Person of the Year” to be announced

The much anticipated Ethiopian Review’s annual “Person of the Year” will be announced shortly. Clear choices are emerging. The short list will be posted tomorrow.

Ethiopian Review is still accepting nominations for the “2009 Person of the Year.” Please post your nominations and suggestions in the comment box below.

The person who will be chosen as “Person of the Year” is believed to have contributed the most to the betterment of Ethiopia during the past 12 months.

Last year’s choice [click here to read] was President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea. Ethiopian Review — by far the most popular and widely read Ethiopian journal according to Alexa.com — found that President Isaias has done more than any one to advance the interest of Ethiopia in 2008 by providing assistance to Ethiopian freedom fighters, as well as opening the door for any Ethiopian who is trying to escape the brutal repression in Ethiopia while Kenya, Yemen, Djibouti and others closed theirs.

The final decision will be made on December 31 by Ethiopian Review publisher in consultation with the journal’s Board of Trustees, Advisers, and readers.

  2. There are more reasons to pick President Issayas Afeworki than anybody else!
    The three reasons,
    1, What has been done so far.
    2, Where he is leading us all.
    3, What he is avoiding is what the rest
    of Africa is to get out of. This
    itself should make him Person of the
    year from the entire Africa.

    I would say the one and the only true leader of all African leaders, the only head of state who reject to serve the interest of the rich country in the west.A man of honer and dignity unlike the other corrupted pupets in Africa like we have it in Ethiopia. A true son of Africa

    I personally would vote for you as a person of the year and you are very deserving of that.

    However, as you are the editor of this website it would not be a good idea to nominate yourself even if the majority of ppl voted for you. You know how ppl are, they will accuse you of nominating yourself. This is just a friendly advice.

    With that said, I think Bertukan Mikdesa should be the person of the year this time. And thanks for selecting PIA as a person of the year for 2008.

  18. Elias Kifle has done a great job in reapproching the brotherly Ethiopian/Eritrean people. He surly deserves to be the best man of the year. He has destroyed the ill persived and Weyane created image false enemity between these brotherly people.
    Elias go strong and tell the people that our interest is bind for ever, “Two countries and one people.”

    1. Lidetu Ayalew – for turning around and managing change from negative to re-establishing his come-back as main player
    2. Kenenesa Bekele for delivering what he is best at.
    3. Elaine Gebremedhin, for having the courage to put what she had in mind against all the odds and in very difficult and polarised Ethiopia

    The Worst

    1. Andargachew Tege – for promising what he cannot deliver and letting everyone down
    2. Berhanu Nega – for a lot and delivering nothing.
    3. Melese Zenawi – for promising to handover power and deliver the opposite

  29. Elias Kife should no be in the list as he is the organiser of the event. He is always great and foing awesom. But the person of the year should be from the other groups.

  48. 1dr. Birhanu Nega for his dedication to set up an important movement & struggle to avoid TPLF rule. He is Working with his team members like Andargachew and others to establish fruitful movement . he clearly Wag war against TPLF.

    I think action speaks louder than stand in this regard Dr. Birhanu is better than her
