Ginbot 7 Secretary General held talks in Asmara

Secretary General of a major Ethiopian opposition party, Ginbot 7 Movement for Freedom and Justice is currently on a working visit in Asmara, Eritrea.

During his visit, Ginbot 7 Secretary General Andargachew held talks with high-level Eritrean government officials, leaders of the Ethiopian People’s Patriotic Front (EPPF), and officials of other opposition groups, according to Ethiopian Review sources inside Ginbot 7.

Ato Andargachew’s visit followed Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki’s ground-breaking interview with Ethiopian Review and eppfOnline.org earlier this month.

Ginbot 7’s discussion with EPPF included how to forge a broad-based alliance comprised of all the Ethiopian armed resistance groups.

Additionally, Ginbot 7 hopes to setup a temporary headquarters in Asmara, sources informed Ethiopian Review.

Ato Andargachew’s trip could also pave the way for Ginbot 7 chairman and the legitimately elected mayor of Addis Ababa, Dr Berhanu Nega, to travel to Asmara soon.

  1. Andargachew Tsige should also organize a public meeting for Ethiopians in Asmara, upon the arrival of Dr. Birhanu Nega. Just a continuation of the public meeting that are, currently, going on in Europe.

  15. Please, G7s You have to solve the disintegration of idea with those who have different goals from you, like with OLF, ONLF, and etc. Because I learned more from last election. That time, if Kinjit and Hibret had done a strong discussion and aggreement secretely, Woyane would have never get a chance to continue its false government structure. Again please, before starting any action create alliances with strong bondage on common agenda. If you do like that we will go 50% of the struggle to get rid of this gangreen(offensive and rotten flesh)- woyane.

  16. This is a bold move. Whether we like it or not we got to work with Eritrea if we believe in armed struggle to topple down the tribalist dictator in Addis. Eritrea could be the best military outlet and base to launch militray operations.The other thing G7 should work hard to forge a relationship with EPPF as EPPF has already commenced armed struggle. In regards to Eritrea G7 leaders need to consider th mutual benefits of the two countries.

  19. The ethno-fascists and their beneficiaries are receiving the news of the visit of the secretary of Ginbot7 to Asmara,with anxiety and fear. The ethno-fascists who have descended from the barren and stony Tigray and feeding on Ethiopia like locusts, know that a force or poison is in the making to eradicate them from Ethiopia. The regime of the ethno-fascist, Meles Zenawi is besieged on all sides and will crumble soon. Ethiopians should concentrate on and support the struggle against ethno-fascism in all the ways they can. The struggle against ethno-fascism is a liberation struggle which should rally all the country loving and genuine Ethiopians.

  21. President Isaias Afewerki is an honest and sincere person who is known to speak his mind. Unlike the ethno-fascist Meles Zenawi who throws out hundreds of lies per hour, Isaias is a person of integrity with consistent and principled stands on critical issues. There are many Ethiopians who question and suspect the motives of those opposition forces seeking the support of the regime in Eritrrea. The propaganda of the ethno-fascists is also concentrating on fueling up this suspicion and scepticism among Ethiopians. However, Ethiopians are very well aware of the motives of the ethno-fascists in condemning and opposing the possible role of Isaias in suporting the anti-fascist struggle of Ethiopians. Though he has hurt Ethiopia through creating, arming and empowering his ethno-fascist Tigrayan wing the TPLF in Ethiopia, his current support should be welcomed. The reality is that Eritrea is the only place in the region where Ethiopains are having safe haven at the moment. The arms of the ethno-fascist regime of Meles Zenawi are reaching Djibouti, Kenya, and Sudan which have close cooperation with Meles Zenawi. The finding of a staging ground for any force of resistance against the devastating, discriminating and repressive Ethno-fascist rule of Meles Zenawi, is a positive development and should be used effectively and efficiently.

If we see ourselves as the defender of all Ethiopians and are honest, all we need is to be one and take the necessary measure against the cancer of Ethiopia. Why do we need 10 organizations for one target? We have to work together and G7 is doing a wise move and i hope it will go beyond that.

  25. Hope this G-7 move is with a lot of caution, since historically we have complicated problems with Eritrea. The fight for freedom must be led and done by Ethiopians without external influence. Our main struggle field should be in Ethiopia. But, we may seek support from others, with out precondition. I believe the G-7 leadership has learned from past mistakes done by Ethiopian oppositions and lead us to victory. We need to support them by concert participation! Go Go G-7!

    Even though I am not against G-7 ‘s Right to take any measure relevant to its policies the disclosure made by ER is tacticaly false. If the disclosure is made by the full consent of G-7. But Elias has every professional right to bring any breaking news to its readers. My problem here is the role now Elias is playing is beyond journalistic interest . I think by any ploitical measurement the disclosure hat its own great demerits and merits. Please Learn from our past mistakes and ready to work as wise as possible.

Folks: Wayane is either very frightened and busy arranging that it’s EMPIRE MIGHT STRIKE BACK against the “MOVE” or vey glad to have been forced by the “MOVE” with its hands tied behind its back and its wings forcefully clipped and brought to the final negotiation table for surrender or convergence, where Eritreans are ivited back inorder to jointly develope each horn member states as well as the entire horn.

    With a new broad based genuine unity that perfectly satisfies all major parties coupled with highly uncompromising and determined united “MOVE” the opposition will definitely achieve its goals within a very short time. That also means creating an island of peace and prosperity in the whole that wretched horn and its individual communities.

    Old habits, old methods, old thinkings, old divisions and acting as a cunning fox dressed in sheep skins that have brough the TPLF to power and still fimily keeping them in power needs to be avoided inorder to go forwards from a clean and clear table. It must be a new era of genuine give and take in a way that reflects practical realities and grievances on the ground. :)

  34. Elias, there is a simple methodology on how to measure the success rate in a struggle against weyanes, and that is to measure on how they respond to an action. Elias’s interview was a success all around and weyanes from Addis Abeba to paltalks, ethiofirsts and embasises are running around to control the damage created. well done Elias. Well done.   38. what a big relief! This is the best news i have ever heard since Kinijit won the election in 2005. EPPF and G7 are now starting to talk the language weyane hooligans understand, and that is armed struggle to death! G7 should be teh political wing and EPPF the armed wing of ethiopian people. The stolen voice of ethiopians by TPLF thieves must be returned and all ethiopians must now hold hands and contribute to the struggle to remove once and for all the TPLF gangs.

  39. WHEN I FIRST HEARD THAT ELIAS WENT TO ER, I THOUGHT THAT WAS A WRONG MOVE. HOWEVER, IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO TRY SOMETHING THAN JUST SITTING AND TALK BECAUSE DREAM WITHOUT ACTION DOESN’T BRING ANY SOLUTION TO OUR PPL. THE REASON WHY I SAID THAT IS BECAUSE I TALKED TO A LOT OF PPL IN ADDIS OVER THE PHONE IF THEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE G7 AND OTHER OPPOSITION PARTIES MISSION, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY DON’T TRUST NONE OF THEM BECAUSE THEY CHEATED THE ETHIOPIAN PPL, I ASKED THEM HOW, BUT THEY DIDN’T HAVE THE ANSWER. I TOLD THEM THAT I WILL SEND THEM SOME PRINT OUTS ABOUT THE G7 MISSIONS. I DID THAT. NOW, THEY ARE MORE CONVINCED THAT THEY WERE BEFORE. TO CONCLUDE, LET’S MAKE SURE THAT THE PPL OF ETHIOPIA KNOW YOU VERY WELL BECAUSE ANY STRUGLE WITHOUT THE PPL’S SUPPORT IS LIKE BUILDING A MANSION ON A SAND. GOOD JOB ELIAS, G7, AND OTHERS WHO NEED OUR PPL TO LIVE IN A WAY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DREAMED OF.

  42. This move is long overdue and some of us have been advocating it for sometime now.

    But some quarters of Ethiopian community lacked the strategic thinking and were trapped in the idea that anything that has to do with Eritrea was bad and is a red line that no Ethiopian should ever even contemplate let alone cross it. And, of course, the Woyane exploited them to the fullest for their own survival.

    Woyane made Ethiopia a huge prison where they can easily monitor and take pre-emptive action against any potential political opposition group. It is, therfore, not only obvious but necessary to seek help from outside and establish temporary safe base where one can organize and from which initiate initial operations.
    Let us hope that for the last eighteen years, we learned enough to understand that in Ethiopia change can only come though armed struggle and for that we need others’ help and safe base that once strong enough we can relocate into Ethiopia. Let us also understand that it is futile to entertain that peaceful opposition will somehow bear the fruit of achieving democracy and justice in Ethiopia. There simply is no space for peaceful dialogue in Melez’s world and Ethiopia and judge Birtukan and others are good examples. Peaceful activities resulted only in extending TPLF’s rule, more victimization of innocent Ethiopians and yes delayed the inevitable armed struggle.

  44. Let it be PEACE, HARMONY, RESPECT, INNOVATIVE, AND ABOVE ALL TRUST be establish and reestablish among the people of Ethio-Eritrea, Somalia, Djoubiti, Sudan and the rest of Africa. What the horn of Africa need is not FOOD AID, US AID, MILITARY HARDWARE, OR TERRORISTS A CHANCE FOR PEACE SO WE CAN TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN MATTERS.   46. This is a great move because Eritrea is the only nation that has so far recognized the plight of Ethiopians under the tribalist Woyannie regime. Not the USA or the European Union, not even the African Union with its offices nor far from the Meskel Square where thousands of Ethiopians have been massacred in the LAST 18 years by the tribalists have tried to speak for Ethiopians.
    If Woyannies keep on doing what they did in the 18 years, do we have any choice? We had tried all the peaceful and democratic means for our rights but the evil Woyannies keep on changing the rules by kicking us on our faces. The only nation which can support our just struggle are the Eritreans. We need logistic support, base or front, training camp, radio and TV broadcasts, medical support to our patriots, passports and many more … Only Eritrea can provide all this support.
    This also gives us the opportunity to mend the Ethiopian-Eritrean bridge for full unity in the future.
    I commend Gimbot 7 for a job well done. Woyannie’s should go by any means necessary.

As an activist of the Ogaden National Liberation Front I have eye-witnessed efforts done by the heroic and iconic leader Issayas Afeworki for giving not only trainings to people of oppressed nationalities from Oromia and Ogadenia but also assist those who would like to bring change in the current regime of Ethiopia. Indeed President Isayas has demonstrated that he is a great friend of the Horn by his unlimited support not only to ONLF, EPPF and Ginbot-7.
