Aksum Obelisk to be Returned to Ethiopia: The Italian Cultural Heritage Council decided to present to Rome’s Mayer, Dr. Franchesco Ruteli, that it wants the Aksum Obelisk to be returned to Ethiopia. This was announced by an Italian Cultural Center Official, Dr. Vichenzo Vala, who visited Ethiopia in late December, 1993.
The Aksum obelisk was taken to Italy during Fascist Italy’s
invasion of Ethiopia.
