Ethiopians in Washington DC to blockade Woyanne embassy

Frustrated over the continued injustice of the ruling Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne) against the people of Ethiopia, several Ethiopian groups in the Washington DC area are coming together to take strong actions. The decision to take action, which will involve blocking the Ethiopian embassy in Washington DC, came about after the Woyanne regime’s kangaroo court on Friday sentenced popular Ethiopian artist Tewodros Kassahun (Teddy Afro) to 6 years in jail after conducting a sham trial.

Organizers of the Woyanne embassy blockade and protest include Ethiopian artists, Addis Dimts Radio, EthioLion.com, Ethiopian Review, Ethiopiawinet Radio, Int’l Ethiopian Women Association, Netsanet Le Ethiopia Radio, Moa Anbessa, and Tegbar.

The blockade action will be taken against the Woyanne representatives at the Ethiopian embassy in Washington DC any time between now and Dec 15, 2008. Additionally, there will be a protest rally on Monday, Dec. 15 starting at 11 AM in front of the embassy.

The organizers call on Ethiopians around the world to mobilize and help free Teddy Afro and all the political prisoners in Ethiopia, including Bekele Jirata, the recently jailed secretary general of the Oromo Federal Democratic Movement, from the Woyanne fascist regime’s disease-infested jails. No more injustice.

  3. you Ethiopians you said one united Ethiopia aftre Woyanes,yet you been so quiet like a rat in the water,but when one of your own (Amhara) go to prson you are going MAd,to the point where you are going to demonstration, as long Woynes are Killing 10,000 Somali, oromo,and Ogaden people it is not your problem. you Amhare people you only hate Woynes because they are where you want to be even if it is by the berrle of gun. or you may be daydreaming Woyane may get you Assab, so you don’t want to be too hard as long it’s not your ethinc group is the once that is dying. so why dont think of this idea where oromo,Ogaden,and Somlia people been/are mascared.

  4. yeah, this is the right measure which has to be. mawrat becha menim tekim yelewum. it is also good that assassination of one of the mail embasy members is tried. but i have one opposition with the release of Bekele Jirata because in any way he is member of the separatist group. no credit has to be given to such individuals b/c they are treats to unity.

  5. A great start to free all political prisoners who suffers in Woyanne’s bruttal jail-camp. But it should be a massive protest let all Ethiopians churches,civic politcal parties be included by all means.

Leaders since Roman times have known that the surest way to get thrown out of office (or off a cliff) is to let the masses get hungry and the kind of dictatorship the current woyanne is practicing in Ethiopia. So let’s get hand in hand before the whole nation get starved with the high food price increment is changed to mass starvation…..

  9. good move elias. but you have to network more with other groups to hold a successful demonstration. the theme being Teddy Afro and Bekele Jirata will bring together all ethiopians no matter their ethnicity.

    however i think the fact that some diaspora ethiopians are pro-birtukan will hurt your idea because more people are becoming passive because birtukan keeps saying woyane is not the enemy when it is.
    if any of our ideas to demonstrate against woyane fails, all the blame should be on birtukan!!

    do it, we should continue protesting as such

  15. I strongly oppose the idea of blocaging Ethiopian Embassy instead i suggest to be approche diplomaticaly.Why? because the ruling party cunningly blended politics with justice.we all wish Tedy to be free ASP!

  16. The protest must be in support of all Ethiopians who were denied justice under the TPLF regime. It must be a protest against vital national; interests betrayed by the brutal Woyanne regime with the tyrant Meles at the helm.

    The time is right for massive movement against the misrule of Meles. Let us put Ethiopia first so that jusice can be seved best.

  20. The Ethiopians in DC do not represent Ethiopians in United States.If the Ethiopian government wanted Teddy to disappear they could have done so without much publicity.He had his day in court and case closed. The cab drivers in DC just want some attention.
