Mesfin Tesfamariam, 56, was arrested after police found him, covered in blood, near his sister's home.(Miramar, South Florida) — Mesfin Tesfamariam, 56, was arrested after police found him, covered in blood, near his sister’s home.

An argument over money and medical bills early Wednesday turned violent between a brother and sister when the brother repeatedly stabbed her in front of her four children, police said.

Alganesh Yohannes, 45, was found shortly after midnight in her living room, bleeding from wounds to her chest and legs. She died during surgery, police said.

Alganesh’s older brother, Mesfin Tesfamariam, 56, was arrested by police after they found him, covered in blood, near his sister’s home in the 1800 block of Southwest 166th Avenue in Miramar.

KNIFE IN HOUSE

In confessing to her murder, Mesfin Tesfamariam told police he left the knife in the house, police said. He is charged with unpremeditated murder and is being held at the Broward County jail without bond.

Mesfin moved to the United States from Africa about a year ago, Miramar police spokesman Bill Robertson said.

As Mesfin left Alganesh’s home, he apparently told another sister who had just walked in, ”I just killed your sister,” Robertson said.

He said he could not elaborate on what medical bills triggered the dispute because of federal privacy laws.

GATED COMMUNITY

Alganesh Yohannes and her husband, Berhane Ghebrezge, have owned their spacious home in the Silver Shores gated community (a suburb of Miami, Florida) for about five years.

Her husband was at work at the time of the argument.

Their children, age 11, 13, 14, and 15, scattered to neighbors’ homes after the stabbing, Robertson said.

They are now with Alganesh’s husband, Robertson said.
