A man arguing with his sister over medical bills stabbed the 45-year-old woman to death in front of her four children in the family’s home early Wednesday morning, Miramar police spokesman Bill Robertson said.
Mesfin Tesfamariam, 56, is accused of gashing Alganesh Yohannes in her upper torso and legs at the Silver Shores community in the 1800 block of SW 166th Avenue, Robertson said.
Yohannes died in surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 3:50 a.m.
When police arrived on the scene at about 12:20 a.m., Tesfamariam was covered in blood a block away, police said. He told officers he had “left the knife in the house,” Robertson said.
Tesfamariam later confessed to the crime during a taped interview with investigators at the Police Department, Robertson said.
He had been living with Yohannes family since emigrating from Africa about a year ago.
Yohannes’ husband was at work when the stabbing occurred, Robertson said. The four children, two boys and two girls, ages 15, 14, 13 and 11, are with the husband.
The case was under investigation.
Tesfamariam was being held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond on one count of unpremeditated murder.

This a terrible news not only for the diaspora but also for those who are at home. Killing this inoccent mother infront of her children is realy shocking. If I were responsible to judge the trial, I would have senetnced death by injection like his cruel intimate Tomatim Mackbay!
Such tragic crimes are heart breaking and they seem to be repeating themsleves.
But it is even more tragic to suggest that such violent tragedies must be revanged by an even more violent organized counter crime verdicts such as the barabaric and savage lethal injections being publicly practiced in the USA, often on victims of prejudice, exclustions and racism themselves.
Folks: Dictatorship, bad governance, killings, jailings, evictions, local and global displacements and hopless refugeeism in alien countries and cultures, coupled with abject poverty with no light at the end of the tunnel may generally causes such and similar desperate inhuman actions.
So why not look at the root cause and struggle to make changes possible in our own familiar country in to a pleasant democratis country from where no one is ever forced to run away, other than on touristic relaxing holidays? All Ethiopian communities and associations have a lot to think and lots of problems to solve, even more than keep hearing violent deaths and keep aprticipating in constant and perhaps rising mournings.
