I realized this weekend that I am fighting a losing battle, I am fighting a people who eat Miqegnenet Layer Cake. Thus I am writing a separation letter to my community, a sort of a final farewell, because it hit me last night that I was fighting a Tsunami of self-colonization and self-loathing that I cannot undo in my lifetime. Miqegnenet means envy and self-loathing, it is a pernicious trait of Habesha where they NEVER give credit or help another person out for fear of being a lesser person for it. Miqegnenet is a virus more lethal than Ebola and deadlier than HIV, now you understand why Ethiopian issues of concern will NEVER go viral—it is because we are infected with a germ called Miqegnenet and we are dying because of it. I say this at the risk of sounding manic or egotistical, but I am a DOPE writer, yet I only have 498 followers on twitter… [read more]

Brothers and Sisters as always I am confused too. I think this brother Teddy is really hurt you have to try to understand him, but I am worried about him. Is he saying he does not want to be Ethiopian any more? If that is the case I will invite him to my place in Dallas and have coffee together and talk it out. I am not a doctor actually I hate medicine all my life and I am not trying any counselling may be will play soccer just the two of us. I have one bed and you can take it, I will sleep on the floor. The only problem about the coffee is I do not have sugar or milk at my place don’t come over suddenly without warning me.
I think this miqegnenet is Jealousy in English or NV in two letters. If that is the case I am always jealous since I came here. I see these dogs wearing beautiful outfit even I can not afford and I compare them with my dog “Kotu” back home, you can count his ribs when he lays down. He did not even have the energy to bark or look at strangers. Every time I see these dogs here even in Pet Restaurants I ask “Kotu” to forgive me for my sins. I only fed him one Kita a day when i remember. I think he will forgive me I was a little kid and I did not know that dogs go to heaven, I knew that after seeing that kids’ movie “all dogs go to heaven”. We did not even give him a proper burial.
I really envy these dogs in America. I am sorry for being a bad person like that. I hope you are not angry at me my fellow Ethiopians. May be I am wrong too I love the people of my country, all of them.
Brother Teddy please respond to this comment. I don’t want you to go away my brother. Some people are bad and some are good. I guess it is a balance of life. That is all I know. I am not smart like other people.
Thank you for reading my comment

Fezaza
Very smart way of dismissing my analysis Fezaza :) I appreciate your humor. But what I wrote about is not funny, it is DEAD serious. Maybe the reason your dogy back home is skinny and famished with ribs showing is because of the Habesha greed. Maybe you fed him one kita while you ate the best kitfo. Maybe you could not afford to feed him or yourself because of the greed where the wealth is concentrated in the top 1% of the Ethiopian population while the rest are struggling. Maybe you are the personification of greed and miqegenet where you feed your dog like a king and you let your dog in Ethiopia starve where all you have to do is send a couple of dollars a month back to Ethiopia to ensure your dog eats well too. Or better yet, why did you leave your dog back home and adopt a ferenji dog in America. There…the tables have now been flipped, I am the one chuckling and it is you that now has to answer my questions…
Brother Fezaza please respond to this comment. I don’t want you to go away my brother. Some people are bad and some are good. I guess it is a balance of life. That is all I know. I am not smart like other people.

You confused us more now than before. You talked a lot more about Fezaza’s dog “Kotu” that was dead he said the dog “passed away”, and besides he did not say he adopted any other”fernji” dog now here in America in his comment directed at you. He said he is seeing dogs here treated way more than his dog in Ethiopia. And you want him to answer that he already told you that.
Fezaza have not used any smart way to dismiss your analysis. it was just simple, Plain English he even invited you to meet him for coffee. What I noticed in you is that may be you are analyzing too much and people loose you some where and creates misunderstanding the same as you misunderstood Fezaza’s “analysis”of kotu his dog.
I have no idea why you repeated his sentences at the end. Is that a joke or being sarcastic.
My advice to you is may be there is something you need to ask yourself Is there anything you are not doing right? I can not tell you.

By the way Brothers and Sisters who live in DC area, a friend of mine told me that there is Injera made in China in your neighborhood. Is that really true? does it taste like noodles? And he said 5 injeras cost $20, i think it is a little too much.

Brother Teddy Fikre,
Yes, you nailed it brother. I am so sorry that my friends, relatives, ancesstors live in a destructive culture. Yet, no habesha is willing to look into this core problem that is followed with tribalism, ethnicisim. Thus, dictatorship will continue to flurish for the next millenium!!!
That is why many like me are out! I will not invest a dime in anything in Ethiopia. I admire and appreciate those concious and inteligent Habeshas for removing their family from the hopeless place to a modern world. Choose civility!
Let us just try clean ourselves from the crippling inferiority we inherited!!
Thanks,
Hmmm…
If Miqegninet (envy) is the case and it is hurting you and your cause try to give credits, meaning some of what they are looking for and value most so that they may also in turn give you what you are looking for and value most. It means that you give, and you also take. This is called mutual interdependence which any nominally intelligent person would understand.
As for me, the good Qe Qa, five kilos of 24+ karat gold medal with my picture as a LOGO printed on it can be considered as a good will gesture, if you want to deflect Miqegninet(envy) and let positive interdependece mushroom all over.
“A little perspective, like a little humor, goes a long way.” ~Allen Klein
Just to make your costs a little bit lighter I would like to inform you the fact that only one individual by the name Sheik AL AMOUDI of Ethiopia at the moment owns 128 tons of Gold equaling 116 119.647 kilograms in storage. Here I only mean that you need not wonder as to my modest demand of only five kilo crumb/morsel.

I share your ideas but don’t generalize it because there are good people out there too.

I wonder how many of you actually read the full article before you ejaculated condemnation and defamed me in my absence.
For example, Ahadu, did you click the link to read the full article,
Korat, you my brother are DOPE and I might find myself leaving Habesha too because of assholes…most of whom can be found commenting on this post without reading the full article,
Qe Qa, you sound betam intelligent, did you read the full article, and are you really trying to deflect attention away from the article and trying to shine a light on you using your flowery words? Really? You know…this is called Miqegnenet to the fullest…ps you live up to your name…
Mamo, you call me a narcissist…but how many times have you come back into this article to see if someone either applauded your comment or mentioned your name…this my friend is called the personification of narcissism.
I present an analysis of the shit that is consuming Ethiopia…but habesha assholes come over here to deflect from the issue and attack the messenger instead of arguing with the message. You can’t argue with the message because what I said is TRUE and you know it…so instead you seek to disparage me…jesus christ cognitive dissonance is some shit…most of you assholes are soooo stuck in cognitive dissonance that you get offended when I point out that you are dying from Miqegnenet…
this is like the patient attacking the doctor for daring to give the dying man penicillin to save the patient’s life. I am penicillin and most of you are CANCER and you are killing my enat Ethiopia…please please go away or CHANGE for the sake of our children…your greed and self-loathing is what keeps Meles in power…most of you are bigger assholes and dictators than Meles himself.

You have ideas. But you do not understand how people think. You seem to think the “Habesha People” is out there to serve your whim.
You find out people do not serve you. Infact they do not even bother to read your article. Now you get frustrated. You think you deserve better attention and praise, but you feel ignored. It is time for you to rant and rave how good you are and how the Servant Habesha is “Miqegna” and “Asshole.”
Have you ever thought about “shortening your essays” to be better readable? Or “supplying relevant information” to your readers? You might think you are DOPE and SMART but if people do not find you interesting, they will ignore you. And in the 21st century, you have no way of forcing people to read you or serve you. You will have to find a way to serve them.

Please, people see this and learn. So many so called Ethiopian-American kids that are disrespectful, righteous, misguided and self important. Sending them to school and telling them to get a degree is not enough. Please, don’t go on and on about your misgivings and prejudice about anyone and stop saying Abesha this, Abesha that. Stop having kids if you can’t take time to teach them respect for other people and control your prejudice. I hope the effort that I think is being made Elias Kifle pays off and Teddy grows up for his sake. He makes it hard to see beyond his ability to write because he comes of as disrespectful, righteous and self important. I am sure his parents did the best they could with what they knew but like so many Ethiopian parents there was no one to guide them in the new country. If there is anyone in Northern Virginia reading this, atasedbun by putting boy on the ballot. From what I have read by him he will probably blackmail and bully to get some people to vote for him. This type of talk is not hip hop nature of ethiopian culture ..
I feel bad that you feel bad. On the other hand when talking about serving communities and societies with big heart, even Jesus Christ was captured and hanged alive by nailing on a crude dirty wooden cross just for maximum pain and maximuam sufferance as a price for his communal contributions and communal wellbeing. Judas was among the head miqegna who masterminded the crucification of Christ just like you are feeling that you are being betrayed by the modern day Judas.
In fact that letter of 2008 from Obama addressed to you in your name should have stayed with you in which case following that, all of your articles and twits would have become precious hunting grounds with hundreds and thousands of hits. Why complain lack of attention when you gave back the attention give to you to some amorphous community of Abeshas who appreciate a Chest pumping tyrant who gives them kurti siga and abundant dooro wat with lots of Injeras. Abeshas are not democrats seeking equality and symbolic rewards but need concrete basic need rewards and grassroot problem solutions. If your strategy did not work for you just go and stand infront of the mirror and reflect on your actions and strategies as an individual character rather than getting emotional, outraged and seemingly demnading that some amorphous heterogenous community called Abeshas change their attitutedes in your favour.
Compared to this cruelty I think that your’s is by far modest. And then again, you should also expand your vision and mission of services beyond the so called Abesha alone otherwis you will get paranoid when all the things about Abesha may not function well due to miqegninet.

I am very troubled by some of the writer’ article and some of the people who are “siding” with it are more discouraging. First of all there are a lot of things in the article which make the reader confused. He says something reasonable and when you think you are getting it you will be lost and so on and on.
I agree to some extent that some people are very frustrating, very negative and also become “meqenga” towards others. But this happens every where. For instance I have worked with few people from Philippines and India, and I found them jealous, intriguing, hateful, racist, and many more. My sister worked with people from Vietnam and she thinks they are the worst on the planet.
For instance one of the commentators Mr. Gezahee H. says this “I think I got now one good friend in real time. I declare to you Habesha are the most primitive, backward, backbiting, stringing, dishonest, unfaithful people I have come across in my entire life”.
I hope you are not Habesha or an Ethiopian because it is unbelievable for a person who is from that society to call the whole population ‘dishonest, unfaithful people”. You are filled with hate, self destruction and denial of facts. Like in any other country there are people who are dishonest and unfaithful individuals in Ethiopia but not every one is who you think is. Sorry man you need to think hard.
And he goes on saying Europeans are his friends and he trusts them. This is really a funny part. I don’t care whether you are European, Ethiopian, Black, White, Muslim, Catholic or other, I care about the person’s values. Are you a good person, trustworthy, faithful, respectful, etc.”? I don’t go by race or the color of skin. There are many good Ethiopians and there are also good non Ethiopians who could be my best friends.
Many times I was betrayed by some individuals from Ethiopia, but it does not mean all Ethiopians are all the same. I am not going to deny or reject my root.

For the record, I do not endorse the statements of Mr. Gezahee H. No matter how angry I get with my people, I will never leave them, Ethiopia is my blood and my life. I plan to marry a beautiful Ethiopian woman and have ETHIOPiAN children. Besides, it is Europeans who are raping Ethiopia and the rest of the continent. When it comes to pure evil, no people on this world compare to the nefarious face of European hegemony. Had to clear it up, I stand with Ethiopia (though not Habesha big difference) and not with Europe.

While the article might sound like an over generalization to some people, I totally understand the point Teddy Fikre is trying to convey. The disappointment he has encountered is not unique to him, but that it is very common, especially among young people.
A friend of mine who came to the US when she was only 12 year old, but very much connected with her Ethiopian roots, culture and rich heritage, she once was a very active advocate against Starbucks’ exploitation of Ethiopian coffee farmers and she helped organize many of the protests held in the US. In preparation for the protests, she spent a considerable amount of time and her own money creating fliers and traveling to Ethiopian communities urging people to attend the protests, but much to her dismay, the protests were attended by a handful of Ethiopians and a large number of Americans, mainly whites. This infuriated her, she felt betrayed by her own people, and embarrassed in front of her American peers, so she decided to quit altogether.
The Ethiopian Diaspora communities are like a flock of sheep without a shepherd. The lack of leadership to steer people towards a common cause and interest by creating strong organizations is hurting the communities, and the young people in particular are the first victims.
The typical negative behavior patterns among some people in the community that Teddy Fiker has accurately described in his article can be attributed to the fact that, so far the TPLF agents in our midst have temporarily seem to succeed in driving a wedge between the various Ethiopian ethnic groups by sowing seeds of distrust and discord, seeking to divide and conquer the Ethiopian Diaspora communities.
Lets admit it, we were snoozing, imagining we were awake, when in fact, it was the enemy that was staying up till the wee hours of the morning destroying our communities, one person at a time. It’s time to wake up, people, before we lose many more Teddy Fikres!

ATO Gezaee you have insulted millions of people for no reason except to relieve your anger. You seem to be a very angry individual who worship white race. You could make your point by criticizing and condeming people’s bad habits, like Ethiopian dependency of western food hand outs.which you did in some of your articles. Many times you mentioned if they are good to me,if they love me,me me me.The world does not rotate in your axis. You are ego-centric maniac.Self centered sick person I am glad you do not belong to Ethiopia and Ethiopians.Your identity crises is driving you nuts go get some therapy before it is too late.Believe me I have lived for the last 30+ years in the west.Out of these years my happiest years are my life with my habesha wife.
Just keep your side of the street clan.your conscience clean.you can not change others with out changing your self fiercest.instead let us ask our self why do we do the things we do?why are we heir? what is my motive in life.
until we answer this fundamental question we will never advance in life.and it is not Ethiopian problem,it is man kinds problem..
If you are talking about the habesha people, as oppose to Ethiopians, then the term is incorrect. However, since the great majority of Ethiopians do not belong to such ethnic grouping and will not answer to the term. Thus sir, I am assuming be your specific term Habesha, you are talking about the northern Ethiopian. It seems to me that being envy about something or someone or as the Amharic term -Miqegninet is not exclusive to the Habesha culture or physic. From my understanding, I think being envy is a phenomena of human society, either used as a positive way or a negative way. The fact of the matter is that you are hypothesizing, if such an observation is valid or not. Hence, it seems that you have reached your conclusion in defining the negative aspect of Habesha without any valid evidence to base it. it seems to me that one cannot label Hashaba having Miqegninet characteristic across the board as a behavioral flow. If it is a personal observation, rather than based on fact, then that can be debated as to the validity of such characteristic Habesha. Since, you put it out there and must have touched your never, I suggest that you should try to prove it from a Social Psychology point of view and present your study so that we can learn and debate about it, rather than attaching such a remark without any concrete evidence. I am not trying to criticize you or what you are observing. So, do not take it in negative way. Peace and thank you
I found your article as insult to Ethiopians. Our failure to be rich people in the world should not be interpreted as if we, Ethiopians, are evil (Mekegna or whatever you call it). There had been turning points, politically in particular, in the last 4 decades that completely threw the life of Ethiopians into ditch and even becoming worse. I should mention that we are surrounded by several enemies who are different motives. The current situation in Ethiopia clearly shows this fact. I don’t mean that there is no Mekegnenet between Ethiopians. It is actually unavoidable human behaviour although the degree of evilness is different from one another. Given the immense social life and interactions among Ethiopians, one may expect disputes. But this is not the case as we live in harmony among each other. Remember I am talking about ordinary Ethiopians not very few evil gangs like Meles and his followers. If you examine very closely people in other nations, you will observe not just Mekegnenet it is even followed by deadly actions. I don’t also mean that we, Ethiopians, are unique but we have good culture and we are not the kind of people you described above. Long Live Ethiopianism!!!

I do not see it the way you see it. I do not believe Ethiopia is poor. I do beleive Ethiopians are poor, not Ethiopia. Why are Ethiopians poor? the answer is in Fikre’s article. Mekegnenet is the root cause of the poverty. I have seen South Africa, Nambia, Botwana, they are in the Kalhari desert; they have no rivers nor rain. But they never starve? why? they work hard.I do not believe Ethiopia is poor.I beleive Ethiopians the poorest of the poor because they think poor and they think backward and primitively.Ethiopians will not even allow you to think. The amhara wanted you to think like amhara and the Tigrean wanted you to think like Tigreans. Thinking, understanding, honestly, truthfulness is not promoted. Hatred, ethnicism, tribalism, all kind of discrimination are rewarded. If you do not speak the language of Amhara you are out. If you do not speak the language of Tigrean you are out. I am out now from all these tribalists and they will turn around and they will call you that you are tribalist too? When they do it, it is okay. Shameful generation.

Dear Fekre,
I am really touched by your frankness. I am sad the trauma inflicted on you because of our ignorance. I started believing the bible that we are cursed till the day our Lord returns.
A progressive society is an illusion when agents of change are discouraged by their own people. This is my worst dilemma about Ethiopians and the country as a whole. We only realise our problems after the damage and destruction is done. Believe me! We are very weak people by all measures. Our society in disarray that it cannot stand for its existence; that any elite can rule and enslave it, sale/change its land/property including its sovereign to other countries without a significant resistance. We still fail to realise who we are let alone to have a shared vision, love and aspiration to greatness. What would be more conducive for Ethiopians to help to each other than leaving in exile where most had a limited chance of realising their dreams?
You did your part and you should be proud about it; and never regret about your action: you will be happy one day that you did best hoping for a change. This is my first time to read your article. But, I am certain that your article would change my attitude towards others.
Sincerely
The main reason with Abesha is the Identity crisis. They don’t belong to black, Arabs, Indians, whites, jews, yemen, Monkey like meles etc. This brings confusion. We are not the same people – we re confused. let them burn in hell all abesha.

#8.Teddy Fikire,
To be honest I did not read the whole article when I made the comment. Now I have read it.
Your article is too long and frightening to get hold of it since it is winding and zigzaging along a mountainous rough roads and as such intimidating any ordinery potential mental traveller like me.
You are also absolutely right in guessing that the partial purpose but not the total purpose of my comment is to deflect your attention from such deeply fixed paranoid sounding “godbye all!” mental state as if there is no tomorrow anymore. What is wrong with attention diversion if it may help provide a lill break and a new come back?
Absolutely I must admit the fact that I don’t know you, your environment and your specific case other than the mere face value of your article here. As the saying goes, “there is no monday that will refuse to give way to the following tuesday”
As I said, your article is winding and voluminous like the story in Homer’s hero known as Odyssey also known as Ulysses by the Romans.
Odyssey (Ulysses) was a king if Ithaca and a Greek leader in the conquest of Troy.Odysseys is renowned for his unsurpased resourcefulness cunning mentality and his most famous tireless leadership of the trojan war that led to his victory after ten long years of endless warfare. When after the war he hastened homeward to Ithaca and his most beautiful wife, Penelope, he had no clues that the journey back home was to take an exhausting 10 long years.
From the dreamland of the Lotus Eaters to the island of the ferocius Cyclops, the bwitched island of Circle, the straits of Scylla and Charybdis, and the land of the phaeacians, Ulysses and his followers struggled and wondered, ever so much aiming homeward-but with out ever seeming to get there. After a raid on Ismaros along his journey in the land of the Cicones, he and his twelve ships were driven off course by storms. He was captured by the Cyclops Polyphemus, only escaping by blinding him with a wooden stake.
After the scape he and his followers stayed with Aeolus, the master of all the winds who gave Odysseus a leather bag containing all the winds, except the west wind, a gift that should have ensured a safe return home.
However, Odyssey’s sailors foolishly opened the bag while Odysseus himself was asleep, thinking that it contained GOLD (hmm..)
Then all of the winds flew out and the resulting storm drove the ships back the way they had come, just as Odyssey’s home place Ithaca came into sight.
After pleading and pleading in vain with Aeolus to help them again, they re-embarked and encountered the cannibalistic Laestrygones.
Out of the 12 ships heading to Ithaca only Odysseys’s ship was the only one to escape. He sailed on and on and came to visit the witch-goddess Circe. She turned half of his men into swine after feeding them cheese and wine. Hermes warned Odysseys about Circe and gave Odysseus a drug called MOLY for resistance to Circe’s magic. Circe, the magician got attracted to Odysseys due to his ability and resistance to her magic and fell in love with him and released his men from her magic influence. Odysseys and his crew remained with her on the island for one whole year, while they feasted and drank wildely. Finally, Odysseys’ men convinced Odysseys that it was time to leave for Ithaca.
Guided by Circe’s instructions, Odysseys and his crew crossed the ocean and reached a harbor at the western edge of the world, where Odysseys sacrificed to the dead and summoned the spirit of the old prophet Tiresias to advise him.
Since even after ten long years of defeating Troy, the victorious Greek hero Odysseys has still not returned to his native Ithaka a band of rowdy wariors, believing Odysseus to be dead, has overrun his palace, courting his faithful and beautiful wife, Penelope to become her lover.
However with permission from Zeus, the goddess Athena, Odysseys’s greatest immortal ally, appears in disguise and urges Odysseys’ son Telemakhos to seek news of his father at Pylos and Sparta. However, the palace intruders led by Antinoos, plan to ambush Odysseys upon his return if he ever dares and if he is ever alive.
Odysseys arrives at his palace as a beggar and is immediately treated poorly. His nurse, Eurycleia recognizes him but does not reveal that she knows. Penelope also notes the beggar’s appearance and believes he might be her long lost husband. However, she is not sure, so she puts together an archery contest, the winner of which will be allowed to marry her.
Whoever can string Odysseys’s bow and fire an arrow through twelve axes will be declared the winner. Only Odyssyus was ever able to do so in the past. The intruders all fail before Odysseus skillful performances. He turns the bow on the intruders and kills every one of them after which the Goddess Athena arrived and peace restored in Ithaca with the epic coming to a close.

lol…i admire your skills…wow…what you just did is make fun of my long article by writing a long comment that again served to deflect attention. Wow…i am impressed buddy. No seriously, I really am. I see what you are doing ;) I think i would like you to actually be a contributing writer on Brown condor, I will give you a page called Defection, ooops I meant to say Deflection Circle. What say you, you can deflect the minds of Habesha from their mental slavery and enlighten them with epic stories from Odyssey to hell you can even throw in epic poems like “Charge of the Light Brigade”. After all wendem, ours is not to ask why, ours is to do and die” aydel….
Hit me up, my email is [email protected] I can tease back with the best of them, but I appreciate an intelligent brother (or sister) any day, even if you do nothing but keep deflecting from serious issues.
Sincerely
Teddy (never deflect or defect) Fikre

dear teddy,
don’t blame Qe Qa. granted u have been done a disservice by the very people you call your own, and rightfully are ready to walk from, even though i doubt u would ever succeed accomplishing that. Unless u go to Waldiba gedam. If you succeed in turning urself in to anything but Abesha, then i doubt u ever were one to begin with. Qe is trying to divert your attention, because u seem to be hell bent on your own conviction. The Habesha u called ignorant and stupid are the very ones revered and loved by Zeus himself, the people chosen and compared to the Israelis by non other than God, if u r a believer, and i am not going to enumerate the reasons we are great people, just passing through a phase… mind you i am not talking about ur ciber-habesha, or the DC area Habesha, not even may be the elite, confused habesha who donot know who their ancestors were and who they are themselves…
Teddy, good luck with your journey towards self discovery, talk to u when u come full circle, finding urself through the maze and warf.
Dope?
You smoking dope!
feeling you lost a bit of hope.
Sober up, and learn to cope.
You must be the most talented Ethiopian writer these days. Miqegnenet has been blocking all the great writings you have been writing. The nerve these ethiopians have not to acknowledge your talent and follow your “blog”. I mean you must be very frustrated. After all you don’t want to see your great works unappreciated. We should have your picture hanging on our walls. Of course that Miqegnenet is still in the way, blocking all of us from appreciating your works. Of course, why do you have to earn the respect and admiration of your people. You are just entitled to it. After all, you are a “dope write”. Why would you wait for years to get celebrated like Haddis Alemayehu or all the other great writers our country produced. You are just so special at least in your little head.

Classic..that’s your true color. Far from intelligent. Your vocabulary tells me how “Dope” you are. I am not going to go to your level, but I encourage you to the voice in your hand that has a little more sense that what you’r showing us..trust me I am far from idiot and I wouldn’t dare to speak off my country the way you did..It really is a shame.
Teddy, you cannot blame others for your fault. I don’t think you are what you think of yourself. The words you use to descibe Abesha tells us more about you than what you intend to say about them. It is up to you to understand the world you are living in and make a choice. Let them leave the way they are and you are free to live your life the way you think right. Poor judgment.
I read the article on the link and i have not found convincing point to call all Habeshas meqegna nor you presented constructive input to treat the affliction . All i see is you dont get tweeter followers from Habeshas. Habesha dont tweet we talk behind ones back..haha…Qelidnew. But really, As Greece Philosophers say :the man who hates, hates himself. Dont hate habesha for your own sake, forgive yourself. And the same Goes to the person called Gezae H. who seems to be angry at all, Gezae you dont have to love people, but if you hate… it will eat you from inside out, becouse people you think you hate dont care what you think about them. I hope all haters get the point and live happier or stay away from habesha.
Cheers,

Mr. Gezae you said,no Ethiopian is good, i am wondering why you are here writing to Ethiopians if Ethiopians cause you a problem. If you dont hate Ethiopians, it is for sure you dislike us. Definetly you have a problem within yourself coming to the site which cause you a problem. What do you want from us Mr Gezae, We are what we are, why dont you leave us alone. You are one troubled person.
Cheers
Go teach your woyanee/Tplf family who are doing the heat and destroying Ethiopia.
what you are doing heir blaming the victim for Bing victimized.you are not hear cos you love me or you care about 85million Ethiopians struggling to survive from this waked woyanne operation.so pleas save us fro your crocodile tears.
I see that ethiopians might appear to behave in many different ways. Western society breeds greed, selfishness and capitalism. This western culture of indvidualism has ripped africa apart. I do not see ethiopia as any different. But coming to the piece of writing by Teddy, to me i advice you to lower, lower down your expectation from people. I will always try do good to people if i can, whether they are jealous or not is up to them. I maintain my own integrity even in the face of adversity. I uphold the respect that i have to accord to my own brothers and sisters. The bottom line is we are all human beings and for each of us our life is a message, a trace that we leave on this planet. Frustration some times can lead to ill feelings. But if you think you are different from others, act in that way and be an example to others. I have seen many africans respect whites more than they respect their own citizens. They are vctims of neo-global racism and western race superiority. These africans have greed and ill feelings towards each other. It is tough to live amongst such society. However, it is not right to overreact or react in the negative way. My teacher once said to me do not behave as a nasty man because you have seen another man behaving nasty. Tolerance and balance of judgement is a virtue one has to have. People are selfish, people are greedy, people are jealous, and so on and so forth. But be it; but deal with it withot loosing your temper, without loosing you balance of judgement, without lossing your sense of humanity, without loosing your brotherhood, withjout loosing the good intention and plan you have for people and your country.
Mr. Elias, why you deleted my comment when I responded to one of the racist and barbaric commentator who tell me I am woyane without knowing about me? you only post the comments that you like ? shame on you. This is Menqegnenet too.

Gezaee has a real problem. He does not know it. Very disturbing.
This article is called “navel gazing” and self-indulgence. I hope you are thoroughly satisfied. Now, please grow up and educate yourself first before writing this kind of insulting commentary. Very briefly, I think you need to place things into perspective rather than ramble on and on by jumbling the issue of human shortcomings such as jealousy, pettiness and power struggles which are universal dispositions that have been in existence since the beginning of time and are commonly found across race, culture, religion, nationality & age. I’m an elementary school teacher, just hang around kids all day and trust me, you’ll discover these terrifying traits that you call “Miqueginet” in kids of all ages and backgrounds. Rather than ranting and raving about Miquegninet as an Ethiopian only phenomenon, have you considered asking yourself what motivates people to behave this way? And should we take these acts literally? Now position this human shortcoming alongside historical,, social, political and economic factors that have affected our psycho-social experience very deeply in all sorts of ways. Your distorted lament is a glaring example. To name others, consider the 400 plus years of European colonial adventures, which enabled their societies to rob, loot and pillage the rest of the world to build the foundations of modern industrial society–a “stolen legacy”. This must influence the way we function in a “world order.” In other words the characteristics that you keep hammering over and over as being unique to Ethiopians –”Miquegninet” apply just as much to Europeans as they do to any other group of peoples. The only difference is that they have a head start in life, a distorted “privilege” if you will that allows them to function in the world very differently from people who have been subjugated under their paradigm so while it still exists in their world it manifests itself differently. Also don’t forget that in their assent to power, Europeans also subjugated their own peoples for the ultimate prize – power, conquest & domination. Ethiopia may have escaped colonialism, but we have not had the luxury to develop a system of life that has been based around our own indigenous social, political and economic paradigm. Naturally when a group of people are consistently disenfranchised from participating as equals on the world stage, be it in politics or economics, or the way they are seen –as inferior, or lacking in the qualities that are considered “superior,” they start to also become ambivalent, or reject or renounce parts of themselves in order to become a part of the mainstream culture while others resist. I don’t want to turn this into a lecture or an excuse for why we can’t support one another. but my point is that your complaint about not coming together or supporting each other is not well founded or something that is expected of say, European societies because their forebears have laid a foundation for them to function without these obligations whereas we do not have the same mechanism of self preservation and are battling both our internal demons as well as external exploitation–a double whammy, if you will. You also seem to forget that our experience as African nations is relatively recent. I feel optimistic that future generations will open their eyes. So instead of writing this annoying article my suggestion to you is to firstly calm down, then read history books and educate yourself. This is an insult to thousands of people who gave up their lives fighting to the very end for their human dignity. Have you heard of the “Black Lions,” Tikur Ambessa, go read about them if you haven’t, and how they founded an organization, fought TOGETHER against Italian Facism and gave their lives –FOR YOU! And by the way you will NEVER be able to “bleed the Habesha” out of your system, you’ll just turn into a narcissistic, self hating individual. If I were you, I’d try to turn this anger into a constructive force rather than raging like a madman by facing your own demons. We are a deeply wounded & traumatized peoples and can do without this kind of insensitive disrespect. GROW UP!

#25.Berhan,
I like your philosophy of life. But if you like people for what they are then do really mean that you like black African tyrants who are dehumanizing poor African people even much more than the whites while you actually declare, “I have seen many africans respect whites more than they respect their own citizens. They are vctims of neo-global racism and western race superiority. These africans have greed and ill feelings towards each other. It is tough to live amongst such society.”
Mind you there are lots of humanistic, helpful and respectful White people while there are brutal, inhuman and genocidal black tyrants causing immeasurable sufferings and pains to humanities and communities. Do I have to give long lists? It is never a matter of skin color only.
Wasn’t it senator Kennedy who nominated, endorsed and promoted Barack Obama all the way to the WHITE HOUSE while the black communities were saying that the time is NOT yet ripe for blacks and went back to their churches to pray and repent as usual?
What can be observed from the article and comments in brief are that Teddy Fikre raised the subject of “ENVY” but focused about himself while Gezaee H. concentrates on discussing the subject.
Here comes the role of Elias Kifle for wider audience reflections.
1) Should the wider audience need self-depreciating article and discuss about Teddy Fikre?
2) Relevance of “ENVY” as a subject without a guiding principle? Even though Gezaee H. tries to address based on the article.
3) What is “ENVY” in the first place vs. Ethiopia/Ethiopians?
4) What is Elias Kifle’s criteria for Front Page attention? Is it self demeaning article? What is the difference between Front Page and forum?
Anyways in the process it is entertaining and enlightening to read comments like that of Qe Qa.
Cheers
Teddy,
All what I have tried modestly to hint is the fact every major journey in life is unpredictable with regard to itse process and the achievements or none achievements of itse set goals just like the discrptions in your article. And no long journey in the drama of life is ONLY totally pleasurable and fulfilling neither ONLY miserable and demeaning deep down to the bone marrow.
The classical story of Ulysses is a rich manifestations of the dramatic ups and downs of life’s journey just like that of your’s in its mini size. I hope that you may not be so much devastated by the mere fact that some people did not choose to follow you on twitter.
Why don’t you offer them delicious and spicy grilled fish/Beef attached to an innocent moving iron hook, even though you must first and foremost choose your targeted groups(market segment) and study their actual needs so that you may design your services simply for the fulfilments such existing needs being revealed through your own market surveys, probabily rather than trying to push down their throat what they may neither appreciate nor need so much. This approach is called customer(community) based service design and delivery. Please don’t forget my Gold medal though. :)
“If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.”

Anonymous,
You can say whatever you want. I do not care. What I am tired of this mischieveous and worthless generation that accepts humiliation and disgrace. This is generational fall out that made people think wrong is right. If your regime is preaching us about development, yet is has the wrong concept of development. Modern slavery consider civilization? by the way even if when Europeans colonized African? they did not do it with consciousness. They did out of ignorance. They believed Africans are subhuman to some extent and they need to be given European language , cutlure, and way of thinking so that they can catch with rest of the world. But it turn out it was the wrong beliefs they had since Africans could do anything. Here come Ethiopians degrading themselves to be somebody else. Singing American hip hop to be civilized and selling their citizen to be civilized? copying dirties, but no copy technology. If you do not like what I write, skipp it and do not talk about me. Stay away from me. I will come to this website until I get a ban from ER like from the rest of the website. Hodam bicha, hodachu yekeded, lost generation. Teddy,
Do not give up on all of us that fast! Envy is part of the human sin and that is why every faith has some type of TEN COMMANDMENT guide. Forgiveness can make you whole. I sympathise with your reaction from the angle of socialization. In my area of experience I have found out that our socialization is a closed conendrum. May be the millenial and the next generation can withstand the heavy cost of social adjustment in America. Every African group I have assisted resttle in America in the last 30 years is the same. Envy, gossip, seeking political space and expression, thugry, outsmarting one another to get a woman, taking advantage of one another, greed and every bad behavior or characteristics is in evry culture and ethnicity. There are honorable deeds we see in an African , a European, an Oriental and in evry culture. There are also horible acts. Humanity carries a polraized self. She/he has also a conscience. It is a break that stops the acceleration of sin. Do not give up on all of us! Let me share you one good dictum that I live by as an older brother. Do not do good expecting a return from a person. Do not assume that everybody is good and peaceful. In a world of unsustainable want evrybody seems mad at one another; evrybody has his own war to fight and evrybody has to struggle to feed his family. I never thought that a person who look like me in the street of DC will pass me without giving me God’s greeting (YeIgzer Selamta). For some reason suspicion and running away from each other is magnified in the west. That is why we shred our biils and copies of our identity. The only way we destroy
cynicism, self-doubt, nihilism and alienation is by developing the cleansing effect of humility, tolerance, forgiveness and welcoming. A cheerful face is contageous because it is a WINNER. Do not give up on all of us, because we are the same and we constitute the UGLY, THE BAD AND THE GOOD. To develop altruistic values is also good. Scientists tell us that beyond natural selection, altruistic genes are chosen in the plant and the animal kingdom for common survival. According to a write, Francisco Ayala (I think 1980’s, ethical evolution is faster than our physical evolution.God also manifests in his own time and in history. HE has his own time which man is unable to understand even if he understands the curvature of time and space in a very finite way according to my observation. Altruism has to be part of our thinking in the 21st century. It is enevitable. the more we have empathy and humility, the more we understand others and we will not be disappointed by their behavior. Wish you the best!
Quote of the month or the year and the best closing remark on the article and a lesson for all and particularly a remedy for Teddy Fikre + Gezaee H. + self-loathing individuals :-
“No long journey in the drama of life is ONLY totally pleasurable and fulfilling neither ONLY miserable and demeaning deep down to the bone marrow.” Qe Qa
