(Bloomberg) — The managing editor of an independent Ethiopian newspaper fled to the U.S. because he fears his pardon by the government will be revoked.
“I wanted to live in my beloved country,” Dawit Kebede said in an e-mailed statement today. “But it is not a secure place for those Ethiopians who are reluctant to sell out their souls and conscience.”
Dawit, who served a 19-month prison sentence for his role in post-election unrest in 2005, received the Committee to Protect Journalists’ International Press Freedom award last year, according to the CPJ’s website.
Federal prosecutor Birhanu Wendimagegn said there are no plans to take action against Dawit, Ministry of Justice spokesman Desalegn Teresa said by phone from Addis Ababa today. “Maybe it is misinformation,” he said.

The friendly tyrant Meles is only excelled by the North Korean dictator. He terrorizes the Ethiopian people until his love-affair with the WEST continues and the oppositions fail to unite. The Egyptians also suffered under Mubarek tyrany for 40 years until they finally say No to tyrany. Ethiopians should not wait until they are killed one by one. Say no to woyane state terrorism and ethnic politics. The honeymoon of Haile Mariam and learn that what he is doing is not right when he will be overthrown to jail like SEYE or removed for incompetence like other hodams.
we have to do something. How long we live with out freedom leaving our beloved country while those who hate Ethiopia controlling every sector of the country. I am really very sad…..
Thank God he got out safely from the hell hole of woyannes.
