Ethiopia’s tyrant expels Amnesty International delegation

Ethiopia’s khat-addicted tyrant has expelled Amnesty International delegates, VOA reports.

(VOA) — Rights group Amnesty International says a group of its delegates was expelled from Ethiopia this week after meeting with two opposition leaders who have since been arrested.

Amnesty said Wednesday that a delegation of foreign members was told by Ethiopian officials on August 27 to leave the country, after it held separate meetings with the opposition leaders.

The government arrested the two leaders, Bekele Gerba and Olbana Lelisa, the same day. Gerba was charged with involvement in a banned rebel group, the Oromo Liberation Front. The charges against Lelisa remain unclear.

Amnesty says it is worries the two men were arrested because they spoke with the delegates. It notes that Ethiopian officials have denied the allegation.

The group says the arrests are an example of the constant harassment that opposition politicians face in Ethiopia.

Human rights groups have complained frequently about abuses and oppression by the Ethiopian government. The party of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has ruled the country since 1991.

Amnesty international says its foreign delegates were under constant surveillance during the 12 days they spent in the country before being expelled.

  1. The toppling of Dictator Gadafi must encourage all Ethiopians to come togather and start with out delay resistance action to Meles Zenawis dictatorial regim. Look nu Libyans are celeberating with the golorious victory they achieved the last sex months. It will take shorter time and less distruction for us to topple the dictator and his Agazi army.

Because the dictator has less military hardware and finance when we start the action inside Addis Ababa and around every corner of Ethiopia than I am sure the system will loose controll and than we can libarate the country from this selvish system. Then we enjoy with freedom and democratic system.

  2. Even the members of the woyane puppet ethnic organisations are waking up to the woyane lie and propaganda and are starting to speak up. Bekele Gerba and Olbana Lelisa have been loyal meles supporters , to the point of giving credit to meles for his ethno-fascist policy.

But praising the woyane tyrant could not save them. when you deal with meles and his cohorts it is like a donkey playing with a hyena. sooner or later you are going to be eaten up.

It is a lesson to all who praise the tyrant meles. they do not know when they will be spitted out.

Abandon ethno-fascism and join the peoples struggle for survival, for freedom, democracy and justice for all. That is the only guarantee for all of us to live a peaceful and prosperous life.

  3. If it was Eritrea who did this it would have been a big noice by the media. It is sad the tyrant Meles regim has given a green light to do whatever he likes to do. Sad indeed.

  4. the tyrant is trying to create another deversion so people will talk about amnesty and not the problems in the country people have nothing to eat, they cant buy anything because the money has lost valu too much inflation, busnesses forced topay too much tax

  5. Thid is a classical example of how they abuse the nationals. This savage gov’t which came from the bushes has no knowledge or respect for international norms. They have been getting away with murder and stolen elections all along.. To gain freedom and civility the tyrant and the TTPLF (terrorists) have to go by any means necessary!
“All dictators are like dirt; where the broom doesn’t reach the dirt won’t go by itself”.

  6. Meles is not doing anything bad for the country. In fact, he is building a DAM for all of us. Those so-called “Amnesty International” are helping the professional terrorists (olf, Onlf, ginbot 7, al shabaab, Medrek,) to destroy Ethiopian. Let’s be united as we are for 20 years, and kick anyone who try to intervene in our national security!

Long-Live Meles the Son of Tigray(Axum Kingdom)

  7. You are absolutly right Mr. talaku.
Not only it would have been big news by international medias,
weyane juntas would be the first one to beat their propaganda drum for months to come.
    TO Woyane-
where is your, freedom of speech?
    The right to asemble`?
The right to express our view without harassement?
The right demonestrate withot fear of prosuctions?
what did they do wrong? for meeting terrorist org?. {the amnesy international}.
IS THIS YOUR WAY OF 20 YEARS DEMOCRACY??
    BEKA!BEKA!BEKA!
    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

  8. @ 9. The truth,

Everything you mentioned are free in Ethiopian, but if you do it for good purpose! The terrorists (olf, Onlf, ginbot 7, al shabaab, Medrek,) plan is to motivate people to start a revolution against Tigratan. WE DON’T TOLERATE THAT, PERIOD! Ethiopian has the best democracy ever you can get….Meles is much better than any other previous leaders we had in Ethiopian. The only you guys problem is that he is from Tigray, and he came to power by destroying Derg(Amara power). We do know all that!! ok… believe me, we Tigrayan had enough under Amara’s leadership. We were treating as second citizens. No school, hospital, road, electricity,…nothing! Did you guys asked why? Nop! You didn’t. Now we got the power, but we still want it to be for all of us. We don’t want to put our leaders all over the regions (States). Every state is governed by its own people. You know that too!
Again shut-up and enjoy your democracy… As Meles said in parliament last time, “if you are trying to star revolution or create instability in any Ethiopian cities, we don’t just sit and watching you destroy us!! Period!!”

Long-Live Meles the Son of Tigray(Axum Kingdom)

  9. let’s go topple these deseases ridden (qimalaam) wayanes. The time is now fox! why are we taking a nap ? let us do it like those braves libyans, Egyptians, Syrians and others…
