ESAT analysis on the VOA demonstration (video)

Ethiopians held a protest rally on Monday against the attempt by some to restrict VOA’s Amharic broadcast after a high-level VOA delegation went to Ethiopia recently and met with Woyanne junta leaders. The following is an analysis and report on Monday’s protest.

Truly the solution to the problem is so simple that every citizens is able to recall with a stroke; yet the difficulty for the liberation movements and some political organizations is the fact that a willingness to start as brand new by establishing trust and fidelity among Ethiopians.Legese knows, he made use of it, so long he can keep Ethiopians at their toes divided he can do whatever he wants with impunity. Therefore, Ethiopians must not permit their assumed enmity to keep them divide. If we want to evict Legese out of office we must unite. The unity that I am speaking here is a lasting unity, not the type of unity some are pushing forward a temporary cooperation until to remove weyane and then what. That is a ten thousand dollar question.
    All parties need to sit and discuss how the future Ethiopia ought to be run and settle this for once and for all.Then, let all the armed groups combine in to one national army instead of olf onlf, eppf, and tdm.
    Only when we can form such unity based on trust can we able to discredit weyane and her leader. Then and only then we can expect U.S and Europe to speak to the opposition with different tone and candor.

  5. VOA Amharic program was not working as an independent news organization at all for a very long time. Even if that was what it is suppose to do. It has turned itself into a direct mouthpiece for current Ethiopian government opposers. Either parties or individuals. You can tune in to VOA and won’t be able to tell if you are listening to an opposition party radio program or international news agency. May be you will remember it is VOA when they say ‘this is voice or America’ at the begging or ending of programs. So I say independent media has to stick to being what it is. The employees have to realize that they are hired there for their Amharic and stop using it to express their personal political feelings.

To Seble:you’r saying VOA Amharic’s broadcasters are supporters of opposition parties.Meles said the same thing and then started spending millions to jam VOA when over 4 million people have no food to eat.Seble did you know that rice proudced in Ethiopia today but Ethiopians are not allowed to buy it even they have money? Everything is shipped out to other countries.

    Here is news for you: the current illegitimate TPLF govt. have stripped Ethiopians’ Freedom of speech and Press since they came to power… thrown hundreds of thousands of law abiding Ethiopians and journalists in jail… have given thousands of acres of land to Sudan, sold our fertile land dirt cheap and given every inch of Ethiopian port to Eritrea… tortured countless number of innocent Ethiopians… looted billions of Ethiopian Tax Payers money, Gold, coffee and other Ethiopian natural resources… killed tens of thousands of innocent Ethiopians… letting millions of Ethiopians starve to death…and you still think VOA Amharic Program shouldn’t talk about these things? How much narrow minded and insensitive can you be?

    I USED TO THINK THE SAME WAY LIKE YOU THAT VOA SOUNDS LIKE A PROPOGANDA RADIO STATION NOT REPORTING FACTS . THIS CHANGED WHEN I GOT THE CHANCE TO PERSONALLY VISIT ETHIOPIA AND WHEN I FIND OUT EVERYTHING VOA SAYS ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT HAPPEN TO BE TRUE . THE WORLD RIGHT NOW DO NOT HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE HOW LOW THIS ETHIOPIAN GOVERNMENT IS BECAUSE THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION WITHIN ETHIOPIA . JOURNALISTS GET THROWN IN PRISON AND GET MURDERED ON A REGULAR BASIS IN ETHIOPIA . SO WHEN WE HEAR REAL NEWS ABOUT ETHIOPIA IT REALLY SOUNDS UNREAL FOR US DIASPORA ETHIOPIANS BECAUSE WE ARE NOT AWARE OF IT . EVEN CLOSE FAMILIES DO NOT THRUST EACH OTHER RIGHT NOW , BECAUSE WOYANE HAS CADRES AT UNEXPECTED PLACES . I SUGGEST YOU PERSONALLY GO TO ETHIOPIA MAKE YOUR OWN RESEARCH NOT CLOUDED BY ANY CADRE FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER YOU MIGHT HAVE TELLING YOU OTHERWISE ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT IN ETHIOPIA .
