PRESS RELEASE
The Ethiopian Youth Movement expresses its solidarity with Ethiopian taxi drivers who went out on strike on Monday to protest the unbearable working conditions that have been imposed on them by the regime in Ethiopia.
We believe that now is the time to bring about change and democracy to our country. We are fully aware that our destiny is in our hands. We are also inspired by our peers in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen and elsewhere.
During the 1974 revolution, Ethiopian taxi drivers played a key role in pressuring the government and soon their protest spread to other sectors of the society. Paired with mass demonstrations and general expression of dissatisfaction by the people, the taxi strike helped the Ethiopian youth to overthrow the regime. Unfortunately, the revolution was then hijacked by power hungry dictators.
This time we can and we will change the faith of our country for the better. Strikes in various sectors of Ethiopia are a necessary tool for defeating the corrupt regime and propelling the movement forward.
This time the taxi drivers of Addis Ababa are taking the lead by withholding their crucial services in the city. The Ethiopian Youth Movement fully supports the taxi drivers’ strike in Addis Ababa and we have already asked all our members in Ethiopia to support it as well.
The first massive demonstration against Meles Zenawi’s regime will be taking place on May 28th (20th anniversary of Meles Zenawi’s dictatorial rule in Ethiopia) in Addis Ababa. It will be the largest demonstration that our country has yet seen. We also call upon all Ethiopians to support the taxi drivers’ strike and begin the cascade of strikes in other sectors of our society as well.
We call upon Ethiopian students, farmers, workers, civil servants, businessmen and women, professionals, political organizations, civic organizations, religious leaders, and men and women in uniform to join the youth movement to remove the dictatorship.
In unity we shall find freedom and a brighter future for our Ethiopia.

Dear Fellow and concerned Ethiopians,
Let us stay seriously alert and get ready to do anything we have to do. .
-Let us not act like spectators but as active players!
— Let us conquer fear itself wisely and bravely!
— Let us try to cement our ties /togetherness with an unfolding mutual trust and respect !
— Let us work hard to fight a real fight and to live as dignified humans!
– Let us not pretend that we are proud people of a proud country while we are becoming more humuliated and losing a real sense of proudness!
Folks, unless we develop a deep-rooted philosophy of life or state of mind ,it is very likely that we will continue being victims of the tyrant elites who have no any sense of morality to preach us unperecedented prosperity and democracy while we are leading a life style not better than death.
There is no doubt that the ruthless regime will continue to dehumanize us unless we stand together and say we are determined to reject the untold suffering as the result of the absence of our freedom . It is time to make irreversible march for freedom ! It is time to get rid of the incredible injustice we are facing! Is absolutely necessary to rid of the very source of fear – dictatorship!!
Halelluyah!! God bless Ethiopia and its children in such time of its suffering & cry.
If history repeat for taxi drivers then as you stated the revolution also will be hijacked by very opportunist.
Organize, be able to give clear vision (the long term and short term objectives)for for your followers;they know what to sacrifice and they know what to expect.

To help the revolution I buy amunitions rather than spending the money on posting pictures on the internet . Let us be honest . Ethiopians have more families and friends that are depending on help from any fortunate Ethiopian just to get something to eat . The current devalution has made it impossible to make ends meet for the majority in Ethiopia . While this is the case most Ethiopians are reluctant to pay Facebook or twitter to join the campaign . If facebook or twitter was free service there would have been millions on this BEKA campaign . I would personally post my picture if only it was free service ,but now I can not afford to spend money on a campaign . To help the revolution I buy amunitions and make sure we are ready rather than spending the money on talk . Action speaks louder than words . We should realize the revolution requires money and amunitions .
