Addis Ababa is {www:abuzz} with rumor that Samuel Tafesse, construction mogul and the multimillionaire business partners of Meles Zenawi’s wife Azeb Mesfin, has been arrested in Ethiopia. The rumor started when he disappeared for several days starting early this month and his colleagues began to ask questions.
After transferring the day-to-day operations of his company to his deputy Yitbarek Getahun in February, Samuel quietly came to the U.S. where he recently {www:confided} to his friends that Azeb — who is commonly known us “the mother of corruption” — is giving him a hard time and that he might close every thing down in Ethiopia and move to the U.S.
Samuel recently finished building a $5 million house for himself in Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington DC.
The reason he is having troubles with the {www:ravenous} Azeb Mesfin is not clear, but Samuel is not the only business partner of Azeb Mesfin who is facing hard times. Almost every major business in Ethiopia, from flower export to real estate, must make Azeb a partner in order to have any chance of making profit. One of these businessmen who have fallen hard times recently is founder of Zemen Bank, Ermias Amelga who has been forced out of the bank’s chairmanship for an unknown reason, as reported here.

Some unknown reporter in Austria wrote that Azeb spent 1.4 million? And everyone from Prof. Al to Abebe Gelaw wrote all kinds of speculations about what she must have bought with the money. Did the writer showed any documentation on the clothing Azeb bought? NOT.

I know Samuel personally. He is one of the very few rich individuals who would accept a phone call from a person who grew up near him in Addis decades ago, and Samuel made the time that very same day to meet him in his office while forcing a TPLF minister wait in Samuel’s waiting room in his Bole office.
I’m a staunch opponent of the TPLF regime but I can assure you Samuel is one of the Good Ethiopians working inside the country to try to do whatever he can to improve our country within the system. He gives lots to charity and never once did he ever want that to be published or have his name posted everywhere.

Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from Cairo, said that to the protesters the NDP symbolises people who had misused their excessive powers.
However, she said there had been efforts recently to rebrand the party: “The new secretary-general is Talat el-Sadat, an outspoken opposition figure and nephew of Anwar el-Sadat.
“There’s a statement coming out from the new figures in the party which is now to be called the New National Party. What they’re saying is that they’re going to rid the party of corrupt officials and that there were some honest people who would run as independents but had no other choice but to join the party because of the situation in the country.”
The move to dissolve NDP was the latest concession by Egypt’s military rulers to demands of the protest movement, coming days after Mubarak and his sons were put under detention for investigation on allegations of corruption and involvement in the killing of protesters.
Protesters had suspected that the party could have become a powerful contender in the first post-Mubarak parliament elections due in September.

You are the one who should hold your horses, do some research what Ponzi scheme means first and second, you tried to tell me some positive stuffs about Al Amoudi, doing business lawfully, You must be the only person in this world who thinks like that, even Al Amoudi knows he is not an honest businessman who doesn’t take advantage of Ethiopia, its true Ethiopia is not the source of his true net worth but Ethiopia has played significant role in accumulating enormous wealth, he has a very large debt in Ethiopian state owned banks as well as there is no body of government that closely watches his business interests specially in the gold mining sector and agriculture. It doesn’t take to be a scholar to understand this, it just takes common sense. As for the late Duguma, I agree he was a classic Ethiopian, humble businessman whose name has never ended up in any negative comments throughout his life, he was known as a businessman who was very good with people and always sided with his people, I had the opportunity of meeting him several times and has seen his was of thinking. Regarding Samuel, i really can’t figure out how you even compared his with Maddof, and his business like a ponzi scheme, I can truly say, he is one of the very few Ethiopian business people to have grown in front of our eyes. Many wealthy Ethiopian appeared out of nowhere and before we know it, they start running Addis Ababa, but Samuel’s company grew with hardwork, his employees compensated real good, many of whom became home owners as well as many orphaned children benefiting from his charitable foundation, giving money from his own pocket, not like the other advertising poor kids to the west and getting money while taking cuts. He used his own God given money. As one of the leaders of a large business empire, he might had contacts with the ruling party but did he ever announced that he is supporter of woyannes? He never did. He simply won government contracts as all other contractors get government contracts in all parts of the world. With a large business, you can’t flourish without powerful contacts. The questions should be, does his business produce quality works? Is he charitable to his people(even that is his own choice to be generous)? Does he support the atrocities perpetrated by the government? I believe he is clear in all of that.
I can’t understand why we become so envious of successful people. I can understand At Elias Kifle’s opposition against people like Samuel. Ato Elias looks like he has decided to attack anyone who even shakes hands with woyaness for whatever reason. He is a sworn enemy of woyanne and only cares for Ethiopia at whatever cost. i believe in communication i am not approving nor disapproving what EPRDFis doing . dont twist my comments to politics. i do have my own opinion and some choice words when it come to the current government. i wasn’t bashing EPRDF.
