Meles Zenawi must go!

Ethiopian pro-democracy activists from several cities around the world held a conference on Sunday and passed the following resolution:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Meles Zenawi must go!

Having taken cognizance of the similarities and differences among the dictatorships that have been in power in North Africa, the Middle East and Ethiopia;

Inspired by the relatively peaceful change that has occurred in Tunisia and the grass root movement against tyranny in Egypt, Yemen, Jordan and the Sudan;

We, pro-democracy Ethiopian activists around the world, held a meeting on Sunday, January 30, 2011, and passed the following resolution:

1. We extend our solidarity with the pro-democracy movements in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and Sudan.

2. We demand the immediate removal of Ethiopia’s brutal dictator from power, to be replaced by a broad-based transitional government of national salvation that must prepare the country for an unfettered free and fair election and stabilize the economy.

3. We call upon all Ethiopian civic and political groups to unite against the Meles dictatorship.

4. We call upon the Ethiopian Diaspora to assist the pro-democracy movement in Ethiopia.

5. We urge the TPLF army and police to learn from the Tunisian and Egyptian armies, and disobey any order by the Meles brutal dictatorship that may harm the people of Ethiopia.

6. Ethiopians must also get organized through neighborhood watches and maintain the rule of law, and never allow Meles Zenawi’s ethnic apartheid policy to work.

7. We support the protest demonstration that will be held in Washington DC on Monday, February 7, 2011, and urge all Ethiopians around the world to take similar actions against Meles Zenawi’s agents.

Meles must go!
Freedom for all Ethiopians!

  1. Dictators are all the same. They are the sickest of the sick. Look how Mubarak acts and thinks. He has no shred of pride in him. He thinks that he is not the problem, so he reshuffle the so called ‘cabnet’. He doesn’t see the writing on the wall. As a man, if he has any self respect, he should have resigned when ‘his’ people demanded it. but, he want to take down the enitre Egypitan nation with him. According to him, he is more important the the people of Egypt. Isn’t this man sick?

So, is Zenawi. As a man, he has no shred of pride in him. Dictators are the ills of this world. This world should be free of them.

  2. This seems to be good idea but the idea of starting demonstrations far from the relevant context and the concrete internal problem area unlike the Tunisian and Egyptian uprising which sprung up and directly started straight from the internal source of the problem as a solution seems to imply the well known and long standing external dependency and waiting for manna from heaven above without incurring unnecessary bruises against our pretty bodies.

Instead of putting the cart in front of the horse it would have been better to find ways of organizing the uprising from the inside and after that organize supportive and solidarity demonstrations all over the world just like the Tunisian, the Egyptian, and the other countries in the region are currently doing.

Yes, the Wayane brutes will shoot and kill like always with out any mercy because they know that they are a tiny minority with out popular support, popular sympathy, legitimacy and mainly benefiting their own minority clan elites alone at the gross expense of the majority dis-empowered and dictated Ethiopians.

Yes again, it is much more easier for the elite Wayanes killers and sharp shooters to divide, shoot and kill young student demonstrators with NO mercy THAN being able to kill massive popular mass uprisings and mass demonstrations that genuinely cut across ethnic lines, religions, regions, gender, inter-generational gaps, etc. They cannot kill all of them. If the mass demonstrations are NOT genuinely crosscutting ethnically, regionally, religion wise, etc. and based on the positions behind the popular grievances as a matter of fact not only as a matter of popular propaganda of my way or no way cosmetic superficial uncommitted masses. In that case it may become the none masses which may not come out and form the mass demonstrations or may simply melt away in to their homes and corners after the first single Aga’azi Wayane gladiator warning shot in to the bright and sunny Addis Ababa sky.

I am not meaning to oppose any thing here but only trying to say that we should not repeat doing what we have always been USED to be doing and keep getting what we have always been getting, that is to say, 99.6% moral, political, economic, etc, repeat defeat. If so happens there may not be a single individual who may in the future may come to raise even his/her small finger in the name demonstrations that does not practically address the practical and all encompassing problems of the society across ethnics, religions, regions, etc.

  3. This is the time for all Ethiopians inside Ethiopia to up rise and get rid of the brutal dictator and his thugs. Unlike in Tunisia and Egypt, the regime will restore to brutal force, but people must be willing to sacrifice for the country and the people. THIS MOMENT CAN NOT BE MISSED!!!!!

  4. I support you full ’till he go down into earth with his little gangs. For what you waiting for my beloved Ethiopians? We were there 1974-75 for changing and we were there even 1991 against brutalitiy Derueg so why not now?

  5. Do not listen to those pessimists who said it is not possible to remove the criminal junta in Addis. We will pay the price and Ethiopia will be free once and for all. It is better to die demanding and fighting for freedom than hunger , oppression, lack of free speech, poverty, inflation, unemplyement , corruption, dictatorial gov’t, a corrupted 1 st lady (last lady),an insane prime minster(crime minster), and a dumb parliament.

    May God Bless Ethiopia !!!

  6. The Tunis revolution, which started the whole uprising in the region was triggered by the hero who ignited himself in the middle of the street. I wonder who will take the initiative to do that in Ethiopia.

  7. Yes,Meles Zinawi and the represive regime he established against the will of eighty million Ethiopians must soon be replaced by the government of the people by the people.

Ethiopians want life to be meaningful and enjoyable;not miserable and boring. On the contrary, the interest of those on power is to rule Ethiopians as they want by disregarding freedom and unity of the Ethiopians. However, change is sweeping accross the world and mobized people to bring the change necessary for obtaining freedom.Zinawi must go!

  8. YES Meles must go, he is not one of us and he is not for us. Meles is ready to destroy the country before he leaves and his wife will ransack the country resources before she leaves the country.

If you spent one night with a prostitute woman at her home your pockets are full of money, would you expect to come out from her home with full of money in your pockets as is in the morning????

Azeb Gola is an ex-prostitute in Khartoum and high school drop out exposed to power and control the wealth of the country unprecedented in Ethiopia history and she is taking an advantage like there is no tomorrow or Ethiopia is not her own country and the people are not her brothers and sisters acting like hungry female hyena.

My advise to all Ethiopians is stop taking about Tigray and Woyane because the more you talk about Tigray people and Woyane in general, all Tigrayans will unite and stand by Meles, instead of isolating Meles and his wife the real enemies of the country and all people and try to get rid of them soon or if possible bring them to the court of justice to face their crimes.

  9. IS MELES MEANS TPLF ??? IF SO I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY WITH THE PROPOSAL ,WHAT IF MELES GO AND REPLACED BY BEREKET SEMEON OR SIBHAT NEGA ???? —TPLF CAN NOT BE REHABILITATED ,LIKE APARTHIED IT SHOULD BE DISMANTLED

  10. I HOPE THIS PRESS RELEASE WILL FOLLOW BY ACTIONS ,WE ETHIOPIAN SEEMS TO ENGAGE IN TONS OF PROPOSAL, SUGGESTIONS, IDEAS AND IN FANNING OUR OUR FRUSTRATIONS IN CHAT ROOMS THAN ON THE GROUND HAND ON ACTIONS UNLESS THIS PROPOSAL BACKED BY ACTUAL ACTIONS -IT WILL ONLY BE ANOTHER PERSON GOOD WISH, FOR THE BRUTAL AND MURDEROUS DICTATOR MELES ZENAWI TO GO AWAY

  11. MELES MUST GO!! IT IS ETHIOPIAN TURN TO SHINE BY REMOVING DICTATOR MELES.
WE ARE TIRED OF OUR PEOPLE:
PREVENTED FROM SPEAKING WHAT IS ON THEIR MIND.
WE ARE TIRED OF SEEING OUR PEOPLE UNABLE TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN.
WE ARE TIRED OF SEEING THE NEW GENERATION MIND WEST AWAY.
WE ARE TIRED OF LIVING UNDER REPRESSION.

SO LET’S PAY THE ALTIMATE PRICE AND FREE OUR COUNTRY FROM DICTATOR, CHINA, AND LAND GRABER INDIANS AND OTHERS.
ETHIOPIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE COUNTRY OF HEROS AND IT IS ABOUT TIME WE SHOWED WHAT WE ARE MADE OF

  12. 10#.Halafi Mengedi,

Absolutely you are right. No one is against Tigrian people at all but against dictator Meles and his tiny elite racist robber circles. But you know most people I know use the designation “wayane, simply to mean Meles and his tiny family and other close robber circles because we don’t so much know details of differences but think it means Meles and his tiny family and other robber circles.

It also remains to be the case that Tigrians may also come out and join other exploited people and prove in concrete actions that they are not the oppressors as a group but the ones fighting against the oppression along side other Ethiopians.

So, action is of the essence because it is not good testimony to come out only when the getting starts to get hot and taugh and say that tigrians are also against Mele’s unjust dictatorship. What are the proofs and the testimonies people but NOT me may ask.

  13. Yes! Yes! Yes! Tyrant Meles should and must go! Meles has no love for Ethiopia and Ethiopians, and has shown his evil ways in many ways than we can count. Meles has been violating the rights of Ethiopians for the last twenty five years — Meles has locked-up tens of thousands innocent Ethiopians — Meles has tortured innocent Ethiopians — Meles has killed tens of thousands innocent Ethiopians — Meles, his wife Azeb and his cronies have looted Ethiopians — Meles has taken away the most fertile land from Ethiopians and given it to foreign billionaires, etc.
My fellow Ethiopians—I am afraid, the mad man tyrant Meles won’t shy away from wiping out tens of millions innocent Ethiopians, unless something is done soon to get rid of him to save the lives of our Ethiopian brothers and sisters, and our land. As far as I know, Mubarak has never given the Egyptians land to outsiders. Meles is the WORST OF THE WORST OF DICTATORS!

  14. yes, meles must go now. But let’s make sure we elect some one VERY NATIONALIST who loves all his people and his country more than money and power and some one who will restore our sovereign sea ports and other lands given away to Eritrea and Sudan. Ethiopians are waiting for the Egyptians to finish before they start flocking to the streets of addis chanting…

    – DOWN WITH MELES
    – OUR SEA PORTS
    – DEMOCRACY
    – OUR SOVEREIGNTY
    – OUR HOPE

  15. Thank you for initiating this issue.

We must unite to depose our own tyrant sooner than later. He has stayed too long and caused incalculable damage to our social, economic and political well being of our society. Protests and appeals to US and other western countries has brought us nothing, except contempt. We must rise up in unison and remove the evil leadership of TPLF that is waging war on all Ethiopians. As an OLF sympathiser, I strongly support any group that is ready to work to remove the cancer of our society. I believe there is no other option rather than collaboration on this crucial issue. The Meles regime and Tigrayan minority rule, which is akin to SS Gestapo, must go! Shame to America, the creator and sustainer of all dictators!

  16. When a bad-looking person is in power, he makes his country a bad-looking country, his people a bad-looking people, his tribe a bad-looking tribe, his wife a bad-looking wife, his children bad-looking children, his armies bad-looking armies, his ministers bad-looking ministers, and his Church a bad-looking Church; therefore, this bad-looking Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi) must go not to London, not to Rome, not to Paris, not to Washington, not to Khartoum, not to Zurich, not to Beijing, not to Delhi, and not to Tokyo, but to Kaliti Jail for life.

  17. Quote:
… “These are few of the measures I would likely take (not in the order of importance) if I sense any sort of organized activity that threatens my regime:
    1. Close down or paralyze social media and stifel the Internet further, Or even better,

    2. Order the youth we forced to join TPLF and affiliates, to launch Facebook groups which write postings that praise me and my party. Every Kebele chairman is evaluated by the number of postings made by residents in his district (or he will get kicked out, thanks to ‘gimgema’)

    3. Increase the presence of the security forces near schools mosques, churches, etc., any potential area of mass gathering for that matter. Make sure that the armed forces are teen agers who do not speak the language commonly spoken in their deployment area.

    4. Intensify the ‘newtegna, shibrtegna’ rehtoric to scare, threaten opposition leaders and activists, or possibly arrest some of them on bogus charges.

    5. Exploit differences and magnify the rift among sectors of the society not to rise up in unison.

    6. Terrify Tigreans about Amharas coming on them should my regime fall (and as a proof, destroy the properties of some Tigreans);

    7. Incite riot and orchestrate looting (in a controlled area noticable by Western diplomats) to show the people what the ensuing chaos would bring if they don’t behave.

    8. When and if the people rally against all odds, find a diversion agenda (such as planting explosives in public gatherings, covert acts to incite religious/ethnic conflicts such as throwing holy books in toilets, placing posts that insult particular ethnic groups (by others)

    9. and others. For more info please refer to my two decades track record

Are you prepared to counter these (and more) challenges, or are you simply trying to copy-paste the Tunisia-Egypt experience? ” … End Quote

  18. The lyric of the song can be found here:

This song has become a hit in both Tunisia and Egypt it clearly mirrior the situation our young people are currently found themselves in Ethiopia and Eritrea. We need revolution, just like whisper.

  19. I agree with most of my compatriots that Meles must go, but also Meles is the only leader in Ethiopian history that never stood for its teritorial integrety & national interest. Personaly I believe he hates Ethiopia and he was assigned by Shabia to distroy Ethiopia and its people. He is responsible for creating devision and mistrust among many of our respected Ethiopian peoples.

  20. Elias, great job! We love and appreciate you..

    Meles should have gone YESTERDAY!

    Halafi Mengedi,
Good point, but instead of telling Ethiopians not to blame Tigreans, you need to tell the Tigreans who have been controlling the whole government of Ethiopia for the last twenty years to distance themselves from the most heartless, cold blooded killer and looter — Evil Meles. Tigreans need to come in the open to show their solidarity with their Ethiopian brothers and sisters. In the past, you have blamed Amharas by repeatedly calling them NEFTEGNAS. You seem smart enough to know that Neftegnas were not only Amharas, but rich Eritreans, Guragaes and Oromoes who took advantages of poor Ethiopian land owners.

Halafi Mengedi, first and foremost, you need to apologize to all Amharas for blaming them for everything that have gone wrong in Ethiopia. Now, you are asking all Ethiopians not to blame all Tigreans, even though the whole Ethiopian government is being run and looted by one ethnic group–Tigreans. You know darn well that Esayas and Meles are the ones who started blaming poor Amharas, in order to divide Ethiopians, knowing all along that Haile Selassie and Mengestu were not 100% Amharas.

  21. Here is something all pro democracy activist should take a note.

First: the movement that was begun by the name kinjit was good enough to over throw
a dictator. How can you be any different this time. People like Hilue shawel should be punished. These are the one who sold a movement for their own pride. they could not made it because they were not a leader.
They were unable to compromise for the sake of Ethio. Ethiopians betrayed and. It is very highly unlikely to gain trust anymore. How can you start another movement with out repentance.

we never been colonized but we never been free

  22. all ethiopian Muslims and christians should unite together and demonstrate. christians take out the tabot and muslims their kuran no time to waist! egypt got her victory just now… now it’s turn for the saitanawi to go!

  23. I call Ethiopians outside the country , all ethiopian to make a domnstration against this worst dictator. he has to go now. you must understand that unless Obama addminstration green lightthis dictator will continue with defication. they are the one who blocked the ways
