To those of us who have hoped that U.S. President Barack Obama would make a drastic change in the U.S. foreign policy in favor of people’s aspirations for freedom are terribly disappointed at not only his broken promise to proactively promote freedom in the world, but when people rise up, such as in the case of Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, and Yemen, he is unwilling to give even moral support, let alone provide logistical assistance. To the contrary, Obama has been doing business as usual with some of the world’s most brutal dictators, including Ethiopia’s Meles Zenawi. This year, Obama has asked Congress $583 million for Ethiopia’s genocidal tyrant (read here).
It’s now 4th day into the Egypt uprising for freedom and Obama Administration’s reaction so far is shamefully timid.
Obama’s negation of leadership for freedom in the world is leaving a dark spot in his presidency and has made many of his supporters disillusioned.

Elias!
What is new about this issue? America is always first for Americans. Mubarek is good for both Israel and America. Why should they bother to get rid of him? It is oppresed people responsiblity to finish the job, and to create a government which is responsible to its own people.
If Mubarek is dead some time soon, you will see all American media together with the President who congratulate Egyptians more than any part of the world to start the next move.
We have to stand for ourselves!
We all voted for Obama with the beleif that he would change American policy towards Africa specially to Ethiopia and help us dethrone the tyrant, racist, and brutal Weyane/Meles. To our disappointment he is embracing the evil breeding Meles and help him tighten his racist grip on us. Our votes did count a lot for Obama’s election. And this time if he is not giving a cdedit for our votes we should organize for the upcoming election and abstain our votes if necessary to show our credibility. Let him listen to our voice if he at all reconsiders his policy.
I am among those disillusioned with the man at the helm.
The biggest resounding thud you can imagine!
America has vested intest in the world. If any one comes across will face the roar of the Elephnat. However, in the same token Ethiopians also have a vested interet in our own county and we should stand for our interest and we should not depend on any one else, because who ever help us to get back our freedom will impose their interest on us. Depend on no body but ourselves.
My concern is though, Black will never elect as a president in U.S. for the coming terms. Obama is also repeating Bush’s mistakes by not ending war in Afghanistan and allocating billions of dollars leaving millions of Americans unemployed. Obama and his campaign promises have surprised many but this time there is no way to stay in power by cheating people.
The American foreign policy is on text book written by it’s founding fathers and every president and other government officials must read and ipmelement. Therefore, Obama cannot go outside the curriculum and implement his own agenda. So, let’s forget Obama and do what is necessary to remove the weyane cancer from the backs of the Ethiopian people.
Eyasu,
You are almost there!
I think Americans (middle class) are also (or will be) victims. Just mark my words.
The guy at the helm is a puppet of the elites.
If you think the world is becoming more democratic, think again.
The whole thing is moving to China, totalitariansm, globalism, new world order. Why? First, profit!
If you think we will see democratic changes with the help of the west you are in for the shock of your life!
US rights are being struck down step by step. Why? Please read the document: PNAC.
911 events are key, please research them.
You will never be the same again.
The benighted Ethiopian oppositions are wasting their time…
Let me ask you this: why did Meles get away with 99.6% vote rigging? why is he selling land to other countries? why is Ethiopian airlines going to merge with other airlines in the African countries?
He is doing what he is told and so therefore he is enjoying the benefits…
What we need is all out Jegninet, the likes of which that set us free from colonizing Italian power!
Unless we pull ourselves with the boostrap as it were no one is going to come to our aid.
We are alone, folks!
Come on folks, leave alone brother president Obama because of the fact that, YOU ARE DAMNED IF YOU DO, YOU ARE ALSO DAMNED IF YOU DON’T. So he is forced to be trekking on a thin line of no man’s land between the DO IT and the DON’T DO IT.
It is not so easy to make a definitive clear choice between “DEMOCRACY AND TRUSTED ALLIES” In any case and in principle this and similar battles need not be OBAMA’S battles at all because he himself has engaged in an unprecedented through HOT battles and wone the damn thing for himself and party. One need not be always aid dependent but better try to exercise self reliance and independent in most of the activities just like the Tunisians and the Egyptians otherwise one is expecting other’s to win freedom for them.
The very fact that Obama was quite and offering slanted help is already great help. He has also advised the Egyptian government not to intefere in the free and peaceful exercise of democratic civil liberties and pressured Mubarack to make necessary democratic changes.
What more do those fighting their dictators need from Brother President Barack Obama? Absolutely Barack and Mubarack is NOT the same, any way.
The former is a sworn DEMOCRAT while the latter is sworn DICTATOR, even though both the words Democrat and Dictator starts with capital “D” :)
Don’t forget one of the famous quotes of Malcolm X ,the African American freedom fighter, ”Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you’re a man, you take it.”So,brothers and sisters, get up and stand up for your ownn rights. All Ethopans are responsible for where we are now,it is also our responsibility to fix that.Don’t expect anything from the Americans or others.
Hi good point Elias! America still think that the US backed dictator will some how maneuver out of this crisis. After talking to Obama, Mubarak fired his cabinet and promised a new cabinet to be run by the same old American Dictator-Mubarak.Just the other day Hillary Clinton said the Egyptian government is stable. Just yesterday Mr Obama said Mubarak is important player in the middle east peace.I am sure they will call him dictator, like they did to Bin Ali, once the brave Egyptians take him out of power. For now the is no stone that America and Israel will leave unturned to prop up the Mubarak government.
An MSNBC reporter showed on an American made tear gas canister which is being used by the brutal Egyptian police to suppress Egyptian democracy-it says Made in the USA. Not supporting democracy is something but suppressing democracy with American made tear gas is shameful to say the least. Please call the White House, let the people’s voice be heard, if we don’t call today may be it will be our turn tomorrow to be at the receiving end of American anti-democracy tear gas.

Sontoga Henok,
You don’t know the man!
Atishewed
He reneged 12 of his campaign promises.
Sure he is paying lip service…
Fibbing is his thing…
Tee,
Thanks for your comment!
I agree with you 100%. The points you are implying are crystal clear even with out stating. But there are also reasons for that and those reasons go beyond the personal capacities and wills of an individual, however influential.
I also keep to my own main points and line of thinking because we ourselves must primarily, inclusively and necessarily get together and fight for our rights in unity within diversity against ANY ONE that is dividing and oppressing us all.
Sure the good brother president OBAMA needs to be pressured so that he keeps away from constantly strengthening the system of minority ONE MAN brutal dictatorship against the wishes of the 80 million wretched and embattled Ethiopian people.
On the other hand how can he do that since we Ethiopians themselves did not get together in GOOD FAITH as to form broad based viable unified alliance based on minimum win-win common agenda.
Of course, if Ethiopians rise up en mass and sustainably fight the minority dictator all over the country based on true justice and secular approach and Meles appears to be getting weak and losing ground even the US Obama included will slowly but surely side with the resistance with out disowning their so called “traditional trusted regional ally” at the wrong time and moment and appearing to be fighting the dictator and lose complete FACE in case the dictator wins. What then? We must really tighten our belts and fight for our freedom rather than explicitly and implicitly waiting for an outsider to come and liberate us.
Sure, even Our Lord Jesus Christ is said to be coming again in order to liberate us but that remains to be seen. But we need not take such an utterly fatalistic world view and let ourselves to be dehumanized and kept enslaved here and now.
Until now Meles succeeded in dividing and labeling the Ethiopian resistances simply as an extremist Amhara effort to GRAB and take away power from his “New democratic government” in order to establish the same old centralized Amahra exclusionist elite dictatorship while at the same turning around and blaming the Oromo (close to 50% of the population) resistance as the work of a leaderless OLF effort to discredit the constitutional “good government”
And then again, adding salt and papper to the wounds both the oppressed disfranchised Amharas and Oromos failed to come together and form a solid alliance for the purpose of putting in place a viable resistance and trustworthy winning resistance movement. Fighting against the formation of viable alliance are Meles’s offline and online drooling propaganda cadres even on this ER from.
George,
I am sorry but the constitution is being systematically dismantled. And that has implications for all countries of the world.
The triggers are 911 events. Please research the topic.
All countries are expected to be under one totalitarian rule soon. That explains why countries like China and other dictatorial regimes are being supported.
Even America will go that route.
Part of the scheme is population control…(sub-Saharan Africa is one of the targets…)
Research “Georgian guidestones”
Try not to weep!
Sontoga Henok;
Leave the poor guy, Obama, Alone. Americans are always with who ever the winner is. It is not Obama’s policy, it’s what their for fathers told them in that old book of theirs. Politicians change their mind once they are in the office and develop a working starategy, not a campaign remeber. If we really need our conuntry back, we got to work harer proof it to the US we are the next guys in power. Then that is when you will be considered an ali to conduct a business based on their interest in exchange for some assistance.
We have to get our people rise higher and pay the usuall sacrifies, like the Egyptians, the Tunisians and the like before the momentem is back with the tirens of Africa and the middle East.
I call an eneter continenatl uprising agianst all dectaters of Africa. Both Ethiopians and Eritreans should come together to over throw their dictaters.
I wonder where the anger is? i wonder where the outrage is? our land is being sold for an out siders.
Any one remeber how Djibuty was leased to France for 100 years? We lost Djibuty in that manner. Now histry is repeating itself. Meles is writing an awful lease agrement with total strengers which is gonna be cancer for the generation still to come. Please check Wiki lick on the report regrding Ethiopia.
Where is the anger? where is the out rage? ppl.
What is wrong with this particular generation? Shame, Shame, shame on all of us. Histry will write our rabishness for sure.
Well said Eyasu #1 America is a syatem built over a period of years, not a single individual whom he can do whatever he wants like Africa specially Ethiopia. Let us try to librate ourselves if we want to be free……actuallt it is ininviatable at the end . May be a year or so… Actually Ethiopia Nesds a hero like HIS Honour Dr. Marthin Luther KIng….He is a Hero Not only for America But for all those who believe in Freedom. R.I P Dr. KING.
