Meles Zenawi ghost writes of his own biography

A recently published book titled “መለስ ዜናዊ እና የህወሓት የትግል ጉዞ” (Meles Zenawi and TPLF’s Journey of Struggle) that worships Ethiopia’s genocidal tyrant is being widely circulated in Ethiopia. The official author of the book is Col. Iyasu Mengesha, but the writing style and similarities with previous statements indicate that the actual writer is Meles himself, according to Aregawi Berhe, former head the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF). In short, Meles is the ghost writer of Col. Iyasu’s book.

Ato Aregawi also argues that the book can only be considered as fiction (click here to read). The following are some fiction presented as facts in the book:

1. respects and defends freedom of speech.
2. is a respected and great leader!
3. is a founding member of TPLF (Aregawi says that Meles and Sebhat joined TPLF several months after it was formed.
4. doesn’t have a hand in the 1976 Greater Tigray Manifesto.
5. was a brave fighter [the book points out heroic battlefield acts].

First it was honorary doctrates and prizes that he bought in the European and Asian markets, then it was songs and lyrics that he commissioned Solomon Qindibu and others to compse, and now books. The guy is getting sick like the x-Rumanina dictator Nikolai Ceausescu. Meles is a rat that has gone mad, it is really difficult to take him seriously as a person despite all the degrees and prizes he has bought for himself and his wife.

Meles is the genocidal child killer who could only fit into the jacket of the Tigray liberator. His dream of Greater Tigray was extinguished when Isayas broke a war in 1998 and Meles said Isayas committed a “historic mistake.” When everything seems unworkable, Meles realized that he had no choice but to begrudgingly think “southward” and began to learn to live without Eritrea. But in the process, he said that Assab rather stayed in the hands of our Eritrean cousins than in the Kushitic Afar people’s hands. All the while he killed people of Addis Ababa, Tepi, Hawassa, Gambella, Ogaden, Gedeo, Watter, Bedeno, … only to spread his poisnous agenda of ethnic federalism under the cover of the rights of nations and nationalities. Meles denied the right of self-determination for the Ogadeni and the Oromo which he put in the Constitution for Eritreans and Tigrians ONLY. Meles cried when he many were allegedly killed in Hawzein and Ayder but he wants to whitewash history and appear as not the child killer he is but the progressive and revolutionary leader he is not. You can put lipstick on a donkey but it is still a donkey. Mengistu had his image done with a thousand face-lifts but it did not change the killer he was. So Meles enough with the face lift and face the truth that you are the child killer you are.

  8. Aregawe’s frustration and resentment is understandable . He tried to knock out the TPL/EPLF leader in the first round, but he lost it in favor of to his comrade Melese. What surprises me most is that forming TPLF/EPLF was considered as a noble work by the most highness sir Aregawe Berihe . It is a shame that his highness sir Aregawe’s criminal work was taken by the very astitute the now leader of TPLF/EPLF Melese . His highness sir Aregawe blamed colenel Iyasu Mengistu the person who wrote the biography of the TPLF/EPLF ethinic leader Melese . Not only this . His higheness said that the book was cheap and full of lies . As we all know this is very contrary to book review because the book what ever way it was writeen, his highness was supposed to recommend it to every one of us to read it . Instead, his highness was expecting the writer of the book to be bold and valor . You kidding me? Your highness sir Aregawe let me dare say this. I extreemly hate ethinic narrow nationalist and the very same narrow nationalism is the one that killed our struggle for freedom and democracy . Best examples are TPLF/EPLF, olf, ONLF, etcetra . The other most amazing part of you highness review says that you and your criminal comrades opposed the secession of Tigray . I will not believe this for a fraction of a second because as you confeesed that you were the founder of that narrow movement and your highness were the one who is responsible for the very notion of secession . I do not care what others say, but I do care about the truth . In the end, if you don’t mind let ask this . Your highness, do you still believe in the ethinic narrow moment? I am sure your higheness will adamantly say no . Here is the answer to the question-a big yes . Do I have any tangible facts for the yes answer . The main reason is your highness Amharic writing is dominated by tigrigna language and you do not have one clear Amharic speaker and reader . Besides, your highness were supposed to share it . If you write your differences to the tigrigna speakers, they might have grasped it in your highness favor . To my dismay still your highness sir Aregawe is in the same narrow circle and agonizing the TPLF/EPLF was dissolved by Melese . If it is true, it is a good news for Etiopians in general and a person like me in particular .

  10. 1.Correct.Meles is better than TPLF hardliners when it comes to democracy and freedom of speech.When woyane came to Addis even Siye Abraha was considered arrogant and authoritarian.Most of the TPLF hardliners still think Tigray still needs more share than the disproportionately high share that it is getting out of this federal arrangement.
    2.Correct.He is not very much respected in Tigray but my understanding is that he is very much respected in Addis and in Amhara region.Great?may be yes ,at least he out- witted the diaspora PHDs.
    3.Founding father of TPLF?NO.Founding father of EPRDF?yes.TPLF was rebel group with out a big picture of governing Ethiopia,and it was founded by shabia to weaken the the Derg’s assoult on EPLF by creating another front.As such no woyane can take credit for founding EPLF but TPLF.But Meles realised somewhere during the struggle that this thing can work and he convinced Esayas that the Derg can be defeated.The rest is history-the Shabian agents with in TPLF eliminated the old woyane leaders, paving the way for Meles leadership.
    4.Greater Tigray Manfesto?Idon’t know much about this bu I assume he supports it if it means better arrangement for Tigray.Now all woyanes support Ethiopian nationalism because it looks like a good arrangement for them.
    5.Brave fighter?I am not sure,I know that he does not blink first but I am not sure how he did in the battle field.I know all woyanes had some sort of battle field experience in the early days of the struggle and he was among them.But naturally he is too intellectual and risk analyst to be a brave soldier.

The time now is not to struggle for individual heroism.But To fight poverty.Even if no body writes about the history of Meles the reality is open.He won you on the discussion before 24 years and gave you free chance to continue with your belief and struggle against him.The organization TPLF elected him as a leader and followed him up to the end of the collaps of Derg and continued to accept him as their true successful leader and he really did it.Whatever it is using the strategies and tactics he believed he mobilized his organization members and other Ethiopian people and nationalities and 1. won derg and kicked obstacles of his progress for freedom and democracy

  15. “The art of politics as mastered by Meles Zenawi” should have been the name of the book. The man is a master of dirty African politics. He is only getting stronger by the day. He is in search of the best Robin that can make him Bat Man. The rest will be history. Ethiopian culture and behavior makes life for people like Meles and Mengistu very easy. Too many ‘achebchabis’ do make it difficult for any one to bring change. We just have to pray that he gets sick or something like that. The man is strong and changing the landscape of Ethiopian politics by fundamentally changing the demography, psych, socioeconomic arrangement etc… Sad but truth that needs to be sucked up by all of us. The greed of dirty and inexperienced politicians has devoured the hopes and aspirations of poor Ethiopians. Lets move on and work hard to improve our personal lives for there is no hope in fighting with the big dog. Hope less case are nothing but hopeless cases. No make up will beutify an ugly woman.

No wonder he writes his bosse’s biography afterall the colonel was appointed as Ethiopia’s ambassador to France at an oldage May be in his late 70s while comptent young diplomats were fired form the ministry of foreign Affairs because of their ethnic group.

  20. Why is meles lying so much??? Any how it is politicians tradition not to tell the truth. Meles was never been in the fronts. Almost all the polit bereau members were also batallion leader. They used to have the prc radio with a child tegadalay as radio operator. Meles was always in dedebit area close to barentu. The PB members witness is the front. Meles from the beginning was good speaker. He was also very arrogant. If he thinks the question is difficult he goes to threatening or bad mouthing mode.

  25. #10 – Lema has presented very interesting points to ponder. Although I hate to admit that Meles is better than most (if not all)TPLF founders, I can’t help but agree with most of his observations.

    I agree that the Gebru Asrats, Seyes, and Aregawis and the rest of TPLF leaders that are coming out of the woodwork and bashing Meles now are worse than him. The only difference is that he outsmarted them and took control. To me anyone that espouses ethnic struggle and running as a liberation front can’t be trusted.

  27. The political space under weyane does not believe in accommodating different political views. If it be asked the role of factions that form EPDRF, we answer they exist only in name and this is demonstrated by the spectator role assigned to them. Under such polarized and closed political system the Weyane clowns continue to make use of their time and resources to reshape Ethiopian History and Geography.

    This is momentous epoch for weyans, and they are using the occasion to build embellished version of their history and financial Empire. With no one around to challenge them, they know this is big game country; they want the entire pie for themselves and they are here to camp for a long haul baby!

We thought democracy will solve our puzzle, could have but we hold it so it seems as our attainable ideal. So I am not surprised to see the weyane landscape painters, myth makers, and re-writers of history reshaping Ethiopia after their own image But if people really want to do something about it the answer is embedded in their own brain-Every one can instantly recall it.     From the mass of Woyane we have experianced that Meles was the mastermind for Greater Tigray Manifesto now I am ready to change my mind and waiting only your respond to public.

  29. Why do most of you guys speack/write what comes to your mind whatour any base? What are you talking about? Who do you think will be repected if Meles doesn’t? For many of you who hate the current Ethiopian Government and its prime minsiter H.E Meles Zanawi, you have to know that the struggle agaisnt dergue by TPLF was one of the hard-fought struggle in the world. You have got a many many things to learn from Meles. If you are thinking of starting an armed struggle against him, follow their way. If you hate Meles, this how you can like him.

    Who are you to insult Meles/TPLF? I think no body exactly knows about them. Don’t tell me what is always written by the shaebiya agent Elias Kifle is true. It is a mere fabrication created by him.

    I like a comment given by some one in here. Why doesn’t Elias Kifle post even a single sentence about shaebiya posted on wikileaks? We have to ask to know, and to know we have to ask. This is how the logic should be.

  30. why not Ato aregawi and others who claim knowing the truth, write a book and give us the whole truth about individuals rule on the game!!

    Why doesn’t ato Aregawi gave us the whole detail, how and when, Shewit die, what was the actual meleses part in it??? detail.

    Somehow when ever I read such articles, i sense a kinda deep loyalty for woyane TPLF, and lack the true color of the critic where they stand today, what motivate them, what will they do or which Ethiopia they would have build if they have a Chans as thier “former leader” have to day. I’m sorry but it’s worried me, they worrying me, I question their credibility and the real loyalty for Ethiopianism..

  31. Mr. Aegawi, regareless of the intention you might had in your mind, I appreciate your strugle against the Derg. However, instead of come up with ideas and sugestions (if there is one) on how to fihgt poverty, problems in the health or education services what good does it do to the Ethiopian people Digging out the secrets now? If we have to call secrets! As much as all the garbages I read about Meles, his contribtion and leaedrship out ways his critics. Moreover, if your intention is to make Pm Meles down GOOD LUCK!!

    1. Most of the comments are just locks civility and written just for the sake of writing. No idea, no point and in reality just bad mouthing.

    2. I’m sure most of the comment writers haven’t read the book or even haven’t heard about it before today. How could you criticize something without knowing about it…

    3. In reality, the habit of reading books or articles is dropping exponentially for the diaspora Ethiopian community. Just look around your circle of friends and family members and see how many of those people you know read books, newspaper, articles … you will be amazed with the result.

    4. For those of you who have a potential on writting a book, keep your hope and do what ever you can to make it happen. You are doing a favor not only for yourself but for your country.

    5. I have read the book recently about Mengistu Hailemariam and as an Ethiopian, I really appreciate the former president for leaving his perspective of the era on that compacted book. I hope, Ato Meles will do the same. For that matter, I would expect from many more of the civic and political leaders to write and write more about the changing events which shaped the current Ethiopia. After all, it is HISTORY.

    So as a community, as a society, and as a nationality… let us celebrate and embrace the habit of writing. Then it will be our turn to put our critic in place…
