A committee of Ethiopian in the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) has issued a press release today calling for a “Grand Public Demonstration Against Dictator Meles Zenawi at Columbia University.”
Date/Time: Sep. 22, 2010, 3:00 PM
Place: Columbia University, Broadway and 116th Street, New York City
In the May 2010 election, Meles Zenawi stifled all voices of freedom and declared a sham 99.6% victory that further delegitimized his brutal regime.
Five years earlier, he had thwarted the democratic aspirations of the people of Ethiopia and ordered the brutal massacre of over 192 unarmed peaceful protesters.
Using famine, illiteracy, and ethnic division as potent weapons, he has condemned a whole generation of Ethiopians to perpetual poverty and suffering.
He has violently suppressed any threats to his despotic rule, and sent to prison opposition party leaders, including the courageous Birtukan Mideksa, journalists, and human rights activists on trumped-up charges.
In the name of bogus development, he has embezzled international aid money and the country’s meager resources; and used land, jobs, and educational opportunities as tools of subjugation.
Now, certain Columbia University professors, in blatant disregard of Zenawi’s crimes against humanity, have chosen to give the dictator a platform that he does not deserve. [read]
So, Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia everywhere are urged to come and show their solidarity with the people of Ethiopia.

We Ethiopians should coordinate our struggle by protesting this blood-sucker Meles Zenawi. New Yorkers don’t hesitate protesting against this tribal junta even if, I am away in Las Vegas I protest through the Internet. Ethiopian who are living on the Atlantic Seaboard, wake up showing that this sucker. ALL ETHIOPIANS UNITE!!! PLEASE FELLOW ETHIOPIANS BE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF Colombia. In order to show our burning desire to show this butcher of Addis. When we protest against the butcher of Addis, we have to show our good manners.ALL ETHIOPIANS UNITE AND PROTEST AGAINST THIS DICTATOR!!! Especially Ethiopians who are schooling in this university be ready to explain your fellow students all about the butcher. That is your obligation as an Ethiopian. Please don’t insight physical fight against butcher supporters/Tigrayans. See you at Colombia University on September 22.
Thank you,
Jagama Balcha
Please expose Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, an intellectual mercenary, who is working on behalf of Meles the tyrant for the last 18 years. He lobbys IMF World Bank and through his dishonest public relations legitimizes the fascist Meles in the Western World – and now facilitating Meles’s invitation to Columbia University!!!

Will there be shoe throwers? :)
We will be there and rock the CU. I don’t understand how a respected development scientist like Jeffrey Sachs thinks Meles is a person of development and hope. By what standard. This is crazy. What he speaks in public and in class room for his students are not matching with his actions. We should teach this Hodam and his friend (the Dictator & Killer-in Chief) a lesson.
Only unity/alliance and coordinate action will produce national and international concrete practical results on the ground.
Constant beating about the bushes and wishful day dreaming in the past by the opposition only produced o.4% results for them while producing 99.6% for dictator Meles.
And now, with his 99.6% stolen votes in his pockets he tries to project himself as a man with high ground and high moral confidently programmed for the national and international campaign proactively fishing for enhanced legitimacy and bottomless flows of financial and material resources to his minority cunning fox dictatorial clique.
Same actions have long been and is still impoverishing 80 million people beyond human imagination while the elephant size top heavy reactive opposition is still finding it TOO HARD as to which way to turn.
That degenerating university is only fishing for African dictator’s stolen funds. When are they going to confer the degree of doctor of law on dictator meles upon his secret payment of some $1 million wretched stolen Ethiopian money?
Why shouldn’t they invite also Omar Al Bashir of Sudan and dead dictator Mobutu Sese Sekko DDR since money is just like garbage with these guys, dead or alive.
Guys please lets protest in a civilised way,for instance each person should not be allowed to carry more than 3kg tomatoes, and some 30 eggs….infact shoe throwing is the best way as suggested above.
Shame on columbia unversity for inviting Meles to educate the students.
I say as above, “Shame on Colombia University”.
does professor Jeffrey Sachs know what he is doing?.
I have suffered heavily under Meles personally and ended up starting new life away from my culture and my people in the middle of Connecticut with no chance to closely associate with Ethiopians I can thrust. I will definately use this opportunity to express my opinion and join the TRI state areas struggle for justice in Ethiopia.
