Lidetu, Samuel, Hailu and more acts of shame

If Ethiopia’s second richest person (among the hodam class), Samuel Tafesse, has even a speck of pride, he would feel great shame Saturday night when over half of those he invited to his lavish party failed to show up.

Ethiopian Review has learned that out of the 400 people who were invited, less than half went to the Mandarin Oriental, a luxury hotel in Washington DC to wine and dine with Azeb Mesfin’s business partner.

Two individuals who had received invitations told EthiopianReview.com that they didn’t go to the party because they do not want their photos to show up on web sites.

On Friday, Etete Restaurant managers were telling callers that their customers are mostly Americans and that they don’t really care if Ethiopians boycott them.

Meanwhile, sources of Ethiopian Review Investigation Unit have reported that the disgraced chairman of EDP Lidetu Ayalew was forced to leave a wedding party in Addis Ababa a few days before he arrived in the U.S. this month.

hailu shawel lidetu ayalew and bereket simon nov 2009_145323.jpg-145749According to the sources, every one at the wedding stopped eating the food until the hosts ask Lidetu and friends to leave. Lidetu had no choice but to leave in disgrace.

Lidetu’s partner-in-shame, Hailu Shawel is expanding his business in Ethiopia after bowing down to Meles Zenawi. His company is currently building (see the photo below) a multi-million-dollar entertainment center for Woyanne families, as well as Arab sheiks who are tuning  Addis Ababa into their favorite whorehouse. The facility has no use for most Ethiopians who are barely surviving.

Below, Hailu Shawel’s son, Shawel Hailu, poses for photo in front of the massive entertainment complex that his family’s company is building in Addis Ababa. This is one of the rewards Hailu Shawel Shewden has apparently received for betraying the people of Ethiopia.

Below is Hailu Shawel’s just completed night club, bowling and swimming facility in Addis Ababa to be used by famiiles of the ruling class, Woyannes and their children >>

  1. I hope this generation invoke the spirit of our forefathers and remember what they used to do to those people who collaborated with the Italian invaders.this people are not any different than those traders of the past who traded there country Ethiopia for piece of silver.so our generation should do the same to this HODAM…. you know what just use your imagination.

  2. As the saying goes, ye abatih bet sizeref abreh ziref,. Woyane is deliberately recruting more and more Hodams that will scrap the left over from EFFORT. We should not lose our focus and get bogged into a sea of enemies all over Ethiopia. That is what Woyane wants. We have to remain focused on the real enemy till the end and undo every plunder and looting when the time comes. It is easy to manage the Hodams once the core of the problem is tackled and eliminate – which is Meles and his cronies.

  3. I am very amazed the way ethiopia is going to today, We are facing a disasterous situation when the most corrupted regim is trying to sold everything that could be dold. When everyone is encouraged to steal and to corrupt until all the TPLF members and supporters get so rich when the majority of Ethiopians are suffering of malnutrition. The only solution to save this country is to take arms and struggle for liberty, freedom and justice. Ethiopia is acually one of the most lucky countries because of its good people but Ethiopia has became the most unlucky cauntry beause of its bad, corrapted, crual leaders. We must act nu before it bacome too late and too difficult to reliberate this beloved country.

Our country is going to be colonized until we are ready to fight for freedom. If we began our attack inside Addis Ababa it will not take long time until the TPLF military junta run away with their suitcases and luxury cars. so, what the brave Ethiopians are waiting for. Get up stand up for right.

  4. What a shame?

We get to know the real identity of Hailu shawul from day to day.

He is the cause for the death of Asrat Woldeyes behind the door.

And again for a number of slaughtered youths across Ethiopia in 2005 election.

Now he is building business complex to make a fortune for his greedy families.

We will see when he colloect the price in the moment Woyane is out.

  5. ER has proved itself to be a media to be reckoned with. I commened you on a job well done! Please keep exposing the parasites and the culprits. The day of reckoning is approaching fast, even Ras Dahen won’t be enough to hide Meles and his cohorts.

  6. Thank you Elias for exposing this hodam Shimagele. I did not like him even from the start. He is just looking for power and he was not lucky enough as he could not take it awy from QUEEN bIRTUKAN MIDEKSA. He greeted Meles Seyitanawi beraying Birtukan and his collegs and most imortantly Ethiopia and its operssed people for just blood money . Hailu you are already rich , you need to take the place of Alamudin or what? You are just old man and missed it your chance to do favour your country?

  7. Al Meles Shebab Zenawi is a declared enemy but the friend enemies are the most dangerous within. Ladetu Ayele and Hailu Shawel are responsible Al Meles Shebab Zenawi to extend another five years or more depend the unity of one opposition to challenge the ruling party instead hundred of them.

  8. Folks:these opportunists who have been undergoing conscious and unconscious Wayane mental, psychological and political “re-education and re-rehabilitation programs for a long time can only have minority Wayane core interests in their hearts and minds while benefiting and collecting crumbs falling between the fingers of Wayane hands. This is also what the recent election of the 2010 in which Wayane competed against itself and won 99.6% means when being translated in to practice.

First rape, dehumanize, shame them and show them their places, and then reward them so that they become highly traumatized, shamed loyal slave servants for ever. All dictators know these tricks of their trade.

And the disunity of the opposition only feeds in to the situations, strengthening the dictatorship and impoverishing the 80 million Ethiopians.

  9. do not blame engineer Hailu before doing more and better. He tried all what he can but whoever is leading unless the people follow we just spend the years to come crying.

The Woyanes are “united” by force and Meles terror but we could not excercise our democratic right and organize/unite in a “civilized” way.

Tomorrow we also keep attacking the leaders we are praising now be it Berhanu, Seye, Birtukan or Iyasu. We should examine or ask what is going wrong with we Ethiopians?

  10. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. This I command you, to love one another. “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, `A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. It is to fulfill the word that is written in their law, `They hated me without a cause.’ But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning.” – ቅዱስ ዮሓንስ፡ Against deception, demons, false people & leaders, the spirit of errors, darkness, dark era, worry, wolves, enemies, deafeat ….

  11. Hey you all complainers. If you want to continue the struggle these people went through to face EPRDF/Woyane, then the solution is very simple. Just buy one way ticket to Addis and pick up where they left the journey. If you are not willing to do this, then keep your mouth shut and appreciate what they have done so far. They tired their best until they broke down. Ask yourselves what you have done and if you were willing to have gone through their efforts.

Besides, Engineer Hailu’s investment has started way before he got himself through the political struggle.

  12. koster–Why don’t you change your name to spineless. Here in America hailu’s followers were making a full of them themselves. Before he even get the presidancy they used to say “our president” is comming, our president this, our president that yaki yaki yada. They were called to cool it down. These fulls heard nobody. Finally as any good hodam sold every one and was bow down until he kisses meles’s feet. Hailu is a disgrace to those people who gave their lives for him to sell them like this. I don’t any difference between this old man who is sufferin g with demetia and that leeper meles.

  13. Elias, I greatly, appreciate and admire what you are doing. Our Ethiopian Mandela…Birtukan is locked up in jail, because she rejected Woyanes proposal and refused to sell her soul to the devil, as Lidetu, Hailu and Samuel have done. What these three and the likes of them have done, is worse than murder. It would be great to know, how much the day laborers of Hailu and Samuel get paid a day. I am pretty sure, they pay their employees slave wages. I heard, many Ethiopians from Wollo, Gojam and Gondor, who have taken contract jobs from Woyane government to work for Telecommunication are ending up with nothing, after they accomplished their contracts. Mind you, some of these people, spend their own money first, in the hopes to get paid later. And some of these people have been battling the Woyane injustice system, one court day after another. Very disheartening!

  14. The writer is a Dumb. and those for whom he is an idol are dumb aswell. Why do you care about their Financial Business?
Leave them alone Bone head Diasporas

  15. Elias – I am really feel sorry for those who call you a journalist and your trash article a result of an investigative journalism. While serving as Chairman of CDU (KINIJIT) Mr. Hailu was a well established business man. You are just blaming each one of us who are working hard to fulfill our dreams in our land. Believe me – Ethiopia was and is a land of opportunities. There is a very high demand in Ethiopian capital for an entertainment facility that Mr. Hailu was about to establish. It definitely would be enjoyed by children of hard working Ethiopians and not Woyannes!
Please leave our beloved and blessed land and hard working Ethiopians alone. By showing us such innovative constructions you are testifying the progress which is taking place in our capital.
    Let God bless Ethiopia
    Kewle

  16. Just amazing how some people like lidetu and hailu shawel turn 180 degrees, bow down and sold out the love and respect of the people they believed in them. very sad.

  17. I am very much interested in those who were fully supporting Hailu Sheweden in DC. There are many in Diapsora who are supporting the so called Hailu Shawel. It is obvious who broke up Kinijit, it was him. He was bought off by Weyane secretly and created ethnic tension within Kinijit and fought with Berhanu. Now one can tell who the real greedy is who is the real Ethio patriot.

  18. Do you know who is sustaining TPLF and Meles? It is these Hodams. Weyane caters to them deliberately to the Hodams and because they are afraid of losing their wealth, they will do anything to protect the dictator Meles for their own selfish interest.

  19. Hey guys Tilik sew min gizem tilik neww sibal alsemachohoom. Hailu Shawel and family have been playing with lots of money since most of you were runing around with a pocket FULL OF AIR. The legacy will CONTINUE for generations to come . Hailu and Lidetu got more than what they need while the rest tremble by just the sound of their names. Nothing you can do about it , it is just the way it is. By the way thanks a million ER for doing commercials for our fASTEST GROWING constrction company.

  20. Tsetse – Trust me on this – at all times, whether it be a feudal or capitalist state or it could be a corrupted and dictatorial regime – there always be honest and hardworking citizens who managed to achieve their dreams. But, since you are associating everything with your blind political view, you do not see and recognise them. In my opinion, Mr. Shawel is one of those honest individuals who strives to do some thing in his time. It is with the resources that these guys have managed to secure opposition parties were at rise in our beloved country. Besides, you have to respect peoples choice. Just barking at the streets of DC or through internet doesn’t make you to claim all others are Hodam or Woyanne. There are millions of hardworking individuals in Ethiopia who are struggling for freedom and democracy through all means. Resources are vital to achieve a change! Shame on you that you didn’t even learn this simple thing while living in the west.
    Let God bless Ethiopia!

  21. Brilliant Eliase, please, turn your blind eyes and defy to the barrage of Woyane supporters who found themselves drowning in the sea of fear thinking that they would lose their property secured in the era of TPLF(Tigre)at the time of its downfall.

So you keep doing such a great job, and we will keep in our archives every tanjeble evidences to testify against them and then compensate the families of patriotes with these ‘HODAM ENA KEHADI’ assets without looking for other resources.

They are always snapping out of their reverie when such hidden iformation is out to public.

    Great Elias,

    I adore you too much.

    Ambasel (Wolleyewu)

  22. What is the definition of Hode Ader ? I hope it does not include all who are trying their best under tyranny and make it for themselves and their beloved country. Those who say No to laboring for foreign countries like many of us.

Is Hailu Hode Ader ? I do not think so. ER can hate him for who he is but can not bring any charge of corruption on any criminal investigation. The likes of Birhanu Nega and his friends who are now in opposition camps also made money joining TPLF in the 1990s. Are we going to say the same for what they accumulated under TPLF?

Comparing Hailu’s business with EFFORT mafia’s empire is rewarding open loot of TPLF for hard earned wealth. Hailu Shawel is a patriot Ethiopian and soiling his name by fake charges is a disservice to real journalism.

  23. First Thank you Elias!
Second, my heart stopped beating when I saw Lidetu and Hailu.
Endezi new ende negeru. Tru new. Bertu!
    I am speechless.
    As my friend said,
    Hulum Zero Zero ….

  24. Elias,
You really are a two-bit deceitful person. When you run out of your hateful hysteria, you start harking back to your old lies. You are a wannabe journalist but have no integrity. You are just a half-witted and loud-mouthed hypocrite. It’s easy to be sitting here in the USA attacking those in Ethiopia who are facing a brutal and ruthless government every day.
As No. 16 above said why don’t you buy a one-way ticket and go and do what you think is good for the Ethiopian people, instead of writing enviously about Eng. Hailu’s wealth every year. You will never accomplish an iota of what Eng. Hailu has accomplished.

  25. Elias,

Hailu was a successful businessman before he went to politics. I really believe his money is clean.

However, he is a total failure as a political leader. After the 2010 “elections”, he made a confession by saying “I really regret that I allowed myself to be cheated (metalelie yiqochegnal)”. This shows GRAVE error of judgement.

It is good news that he has decided to retire from politics.

  26. Opportunism

Opportunism is the conscious policy and practice of taking selfish advantage of circumstances, with little regard for principles.[1] The term can be applied to individuals, groups, organizations, styles, behaviours, and trends.
Opportunism or “opportunistic behavior” is an important concept in such fields as transaction cost economics, evolutionary biology, game theory, ethics, psychology, sociology and politics. Although opportunism often has a strong negative moral connotation, it may also be defined more neutrally as putting self-interest before other interests when there is an opportunity to do so, or flexibly adapting to changing circumstances to maximize self-interest (usually in a way that negates a principle previously held).
In choosing or utilizing opportunities, opportunism is most likely to occur:
    • where people can make the most gains for themselves at the least cost to themselves. • where relevant internal or external controls on their behaviour are absent. • where people are pressured to choose and act. If people are criticized for being “opportunists”, this usually refers to a situation in which the beliefs and principles which people have are being put to the test (or are being challenged).

    Opportunism in politics

The term “opportunism” is often used in politics and political science, and by activists campaigning for a cause. It is interpreted in different ways, but usually refers to one or more of the following: * a political style of aiming to increase one’s political influence at almost any price, or a political style which involves seizing every and any opportunity to extend one’s political influence, whenever such opportunities arise. * the practice of abandoning or compromising in reality some important political principles that were previously held, in the process of trying to increase one’s political power and influence. * a trend of thought, or a political tendency, seeking to make political capital out of situations with the main aim being that of gaining more influence, prestige or support, instead of truly winning people over to a principled position or improving their political understanding. Typically, opportunist political behavior is criticized for being short-sighted or narrow-minded. That is, in the urge to make short-term political gains or preserve them, the appropriate relationship between the means being used and the overall goals being aimed for is overlooked. The result might well be, that “short term gain” leads to “long term pain”. Thus, after opportunist mistakes have been made and recognized, a lot of soul searching may occur, or “a return to principles” may be advocated, so that the proper relationship between people’s principles and their actions is restored. Most politicians are “opportunists” to some extent at least (they aim to utilize political opportunities creatively to their advantage, and have to try new initiatives), but the controversies surrounding the concept concern the exact relationship between “seizing a political opportunity” and the political principles being espoused. In other words, the question is “how far you can go” without compromising principles or abandoning an agreed-on code of ethics. There may be no quick and easy answer to that, because whether a transgression has occurred cannot be verified, is known only later, or is in dispute. This happens particularly in a new situation where it is uncertain how principles should be applied, or how people should respond to it. * Accusations of “opportunism” may be made without proof being available, and they may be open to debate. A politician might for instance argue that, although his action seems unprincipled at first sight, when placed in a broader perspective it conforms exactly to what his constituency believes in. In an act of persuasion, he aims to convince people that his action is principled. Whether he is correct or not, may however be knowable only with the benefit of hindsight, long after the action occurred; the total effect of a strategic political decision may not be known until years or even decades after it was taken. When the outcome of an action is uncertain, a politician might argue “history will prove me right”.
    * Often the opportunist operates in a situation where there exist many unknowns, and where there is no broad agreement on how one should respond to the situation in a principled way. Far-sighted leadership is required, but in the absence of authorative knowledge. In that case, whether behaviour is opportunist or not, may simply be very difficult to judge. A true opportunist is likely to utilize precisely this ambiguity to serve his purpose, capitalizing on human gullibility or ignorance. * Opportunistic behavior may occur in strategic alliances, in which one party uses the relationship to better its position, often at the expense of the other. In this case, one party puts its own interests ahead of the agreed goals of the alliance. * A political tendency which has been outmaneouvred or side-lined may latch on to any kind of opportunity to claw its way back to a position of power and influence. Conversely, a very powerful political group may use its power for opportunistic purposes because it knows that criticism of such action will have no real effect (it is possible to “get away with it”)…. 28. when i first saw these houses, i really thought there is some fairness going on. but as i go online to get a better understanding of what goes on, it’s really disappointing to see people of one clan that used to just about 20 years ago die of hunger build some amazing villa apartments and live in a luxurious houses.

now i am starting to wonder. what else are the thinking besides looting and living a luxurious life? i am quiet sure ethiopia has not changed. a place where poor doesn’t even get a nice hand shake even for a joke. the guys are pompous and belittling and i just hope that era would be changed.

whatever happened to the original land owners or the oromos in the surrounding cuz i aint hearing a damn thing?

you know if it’s corrupt like this, it just takes another 10 or twenty years for all of this to be miserable again. i hope not.

i hope these guys grow up and see life differently.

in the eyes of the people they are just midgets. you can’t brag and spend many around the world when your family is dying of hunger or suffering what shortages.

they think they are kings when waitresses smile and welcome them. but that is just business in a grown up world. do they know that?
