The following is a statement from the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF)
A claim made by Ethiopian Prime Minister, Melez Zenawi at his most recent press conference that his regime will “soon sign an agreement” with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has no basis in reality and is intended to mislead the international community in general and foreign oil firms in particular. The ONLF wishes to make clear that we have not been, and currently are not, in discussions with this regime. The ONLF has maintained a principled position that any negotiations with this regime can only take place under the auspices of the international community in a neutral venue with a third neutral party mediator. This regime has consistently refused neutral third party mediation under the auspices of the international community. Melez Zenawi clearly seeks to create the impression that he is on the verge of reaching a political settlement to the Ogaden conflict in a bid to convince oil companies that Ogaden is no longer a war zone and divert attention from Ethiopia’s recent so-called “‘election” results confirming that dissent will not be tolerated by this regime, even if it is through the ballot box.
The ONLF wishes to affirm that the resolve of our people and armed forces has only strengthened as a result this regimes continued acts of collective punishment and war crimes in Ogaden. Continued extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, forced displacement of civilians, rape, torture and use of international humanitarian aid for political purposes in Ogaden by this regime can not be concealed by misleading statements and a media blockade preventing international journalists from entering Ogaden to witness for themselves this regimes atrocities and military losses at the hands of our forces.

Meles’s stupidity becomes clearer and clearer from day to day. He once said there is nothing called ONLF anymore. His puppet, Bereket Simon, was also repeating that just last week. Why is he now saying he is gonna negotiate with the “non-existing” ONLF?
At any opportune time and as a cunning opportunist Wayane always initiates and conducts its well known and long running fake negotiation theatres.
It did that with the OLF on sveral occasions for the last aomw 20 years just to divide the OLF, Oromos, as well as the other non Oromo peoples of Ethiopia.
Following the 2005 land slide election defeat by the CUD, the politically strungled cunning fox TPLF at one crusial point offered the CUD a completely fake negotiation proposal just to by time for its own regrouping of power and capacity building dishonest MOTIVE after which it rained like a heavy winter shower on heads and sholuders of the leading CUD memebers and supporters with massacres, tortures, imprisonments, banishings, utter dihumanizations, divisions and disbandments, etc. that left lasting agony and permanet scars on the victors while the defeated medieval tyrant still keeps defeating by means of dishonesty, chaetings as well as shootings and lootings.
Negotions will always come go as an instrument of TPLF dictator’s war and power startegy but that does not chnage an inch it unilateral grip and sole dictatorial properitorship on power that will keep impoverishing the 80 million Ethiopians and the entire horn.
The TPLF is constantly and secretely spreading false self serving propagandas and psychological warfares among the good Smalis through bad mouthing Amharas, Oromos and other nationalitis and claiming that ONLY the TPLF constitutes true friend of somalis and can protect the from other Ethiopian nationalities.
It is like the late cunning Adolf Hitler with an angel’s wings attached to both sides of his shoulders, soothing and talking caringly to desperate Jews as their sole savior while mass slaughtering of the Jewsh community in the back room Hitler’s consentration camps. ):
Typical Weyane desperate move!
ONLF is well aware of the hopeless TPLF tactics and is unlikely they will fall into that trap. For the last five years or so, Melez and co. have been trying to induce ONLF into that trick by delegating some known Ethiopian members of the diaspora community as well as others in the Horn but all fell flate.
There is no reason to believe that Melez would not do the same to other Ethiopian organizations and nationalities.
However, regardless of how -substantive negotiations or outright knock out- Melez knows that, at some point, it is inevitable that he will be forced to leave and vacate the seat power and that is the bottom line.
Till that time, he can spread lies and try to give others false hope by pretending he is genuinely interested in serious negotiations.
