ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) — Ethiopian Prime Minister warlord Meles Zenawi said he is willing to meet Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki despite more than 10 years of bitter words and a bloody border war.
Eritrea last month accused Ethiopia of blocking its participation in African Union (AU) summits in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa — seat of the 53-nation body.
Responding to questions, Meles denied the claims and said Isaias was welcome in Ethiopia.
“If the Eritrean government is eager to send any person, whether the president himself or any person, and participate in meetings they will be treated exactly like any other delegation,” Meles told reporters late on Thursday.
Meles said it was Addis Ababa’s obligation as AU headquarters.
The 1998-2000 war between two of the world’s poorest countries killed at least 70,000 people. An independent border commission in 2002 awarded the flashpoint town of Badme to Eritrea but Ethiopia still occupies the territory.
“I am prepared to talk to anybody on matters that help peace in the neighbourhood,” Meles said. “So as I have made it very clear on many occasions we are ready to talk to them at any level, at any time, any place.”
Meles did not say whether he was willing to discuss the border issue.
“I have no obligation to meet him at the airport,” Meles added.
In December, the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions on Eritrea, accusing it of backing rebel groups in Somalia, where at least 21,000 people have been killed in violence since the beginning of 2007.
The sanctions, adopted in December and backed by 13 of the 15 members of the U.N. Security Council, include an arms embargo, travel restrictions and asset freezes for some of the country’s top officials.
Asmara says the Security Council is a proxy for the United States and says the multi-state body continues to ignore the fact that their territory is being occupied by Ethiopia, Washington’s strongest ally in the Horn of Africa.

Dialog with weyane? To get what? Two people or goverments go for dialog if you see a little hope of win /win solution. you don’t sit with pathological liars just for zero sum game at the expense of your people. First, we don’t sit with killers, narrow minders , haters, loosers, back-stabbers, servant of super powers. Normaly, when you dialog with someone ,,My wins should not define your looses or vise versa.However, weyane behaviour is always the same manipulating, cheating, back-stabbing.Most importantly, we don’t sit with warlords who have no future at all,We smell their death already. The life saving maschine USA can not save weyane ass for ever.The EPPF, TPDM, Ogadens are coming decisively may be the oromos which have great number but with less action can come to kick the weyane ass once for ever.

As an Eritrean I don’t see why President Isaias will meet Meles before the Woyanne genocidaire vacates occupied Eritrean Territory.
I think Meles is scared because he could not maintain the mistrust between Eritreans and Ethiopians any longer due to the courageous work of people like Elias Kifle.
I want Ethiopians to realize (I am sure Elias knows it)that Eritrea will not betray Ethiopian freedom fighters (whatever political support they get from Eritrea)for expediency reasons.PIA talks straight and shoots straight. He is not your traditional multi-tongued politician. Woyanne committed Ethnic cleansing of Eritreans/and Ethiopians of Eritrean ancestry (not to mention the genocide in Ethiopia) and thus Meles and his ilk have a lot to answer for. Let the two leaders meet for duel at a location fit for both, and I’m certain Isaias Afewerki will be the winner, and as a winner, he will be the president of Ethiopia and Eritrea.

There cannot be any dialogue between Eritrea and Weyane, for dialogue time was before they went to all out war. The only thing left is to let the cartographers do their work, and reach to a conclusion based on the ruling, as it was Final and Binding. The reason it was made Final and Binding was because the panel realized the two disputing parties were too far off on the way they wanted to resolve the dispute. The Judge and lawyers studied the issue for two years and gave the two lawyers to present their evidence, and based on the evidence the vrdict was given and now the nly thing left is to demarcate the border on the ground. The document has been closed and sealed, one of the lawyers have died and the main judge is too old at the moment, so the only thing left for Meles is to let the UN cartographers to come and plant the pilars between the two nations. If there is any dialogue in the future it will have to be on trade and other issues, not on border for it has been concluded according to the law.
meles can do dialogue with OLF, ONLF, TPDM and EPPF. That is something that can be resolved through dialogue, once a court is involved then the matter becomes an occupation.

Dear Tk; you ar trying to challenge the comments made by Biddho Hafash. I agree with you that relgion is a private matter and everybody’s faith should be respected as far as the person or group with this specific faith are trespassing into the lives of other believers. You are a muslem or a christian is not a problem to anyone unless as a musliem for example start insulting christians, or christians insulting Muslems. Not only insulting but also looking down at people who are not of your religion. I personally cannot accept anybody who forces me to accept his religion by saying you are sinner, you do not understand religion, you are wrong, your religion is poor, your culture is hell… things like this. When I challenge them that my Christian religion is fine fore me so I believe in god, I go to church, I obey the gods words of 10 commandements. But they will come to say to tell me your religion is dead old, wrong, and accept ours, You ar sinner, you do not understand, you ar ignorant things like. this is what is happening in Even in European countries. Those religions such as the Pentecostals saying to me on the streets of apitals. This relgion is one of the western invented relieions and comes from western culture. It is not fit for other people. In Ethiopia and Eritrea, Uganda, and many other countries it is ausing people to be lazy, not hard working, not to concentrate on their knowledge but only they keep them in constant prayer times. four days or five days a week prayer meeting , then the person is left not to develope his life to work hard to earn a bread. If they do it in UK or Germany , yes it ieasy for people to go to hold 7 day prauyers metings because they may have the money, at least government feeds them. Also some relgions have been harmful to the individuals and the communities in africa sa they clash inconcept. It is also a source of family disintegration,. children are no more obeying their families because the children adopt western reglion and desdain the religion and culture of their parents.We have many run aways from home at an early age. Some get married and they exclude their parents to socialize with them. Because the new relgion prohibits parents from practicing their traditional social activities. Not to make get together and make some traditional drinks like Tej, And Tela or drink bear. In america probably no one tries to stop people enjoy their drinks and meals. I am not saying people have to drink till drunk but for normal social events it is a culture and drinks are all over the world. The new reliogions are threat to social and family lives. They are damgaing unity. I have experieienced all this in my family .My children do not want to come close to any one from my family, because they adopted the pentecostal religion. If they do practice it for themselves is ok, but they get isolated and isolate any one close or far relatives and society near them. They only like to tell me what they think, no accomodate my beleieves, my traditions, my way of life and so on. so some relgions are problamitc than helpful.I saw many mothers crying because their daughter inlaws behaving like devils. they do not eat food when it is prepared for Orthdox way of socialising like Mhber marima, Mahber medhan alem, mHber Gebrie, mahber michael and so on because they do not associate with saints,angels.How do they come to change me when I am from the other culture in a one night. they do not have respect for their parents , no respect for any one who is outside their relgion. so in my conclusion they are new comers, they are trespassers, intruders and make the society feel threatened. Of course change comes slowly but not by brutal actions. not acceptable. so they have to have a boundry on how they act. how they want to practice their religion , They do not have any right to invade any other persons privacy. They do not give me privacy. They invade with out any qualms. They do not feel there is a limit to their right and obligation to communities to respect thier privacy. There is a lot more that can be said.
