Fire causes major damage in Humera

In the northern Ethiopian town of Humera, fire has caused major damage, including the displacement of 3,500 residents and burning down of 816 homes. Last October, I was at the border of Humera, across Tekeze river. Click here to see the video. It is a place stolen by the ruling Woyanne junta from the people of Gonder and given to Woyanne loyalists. – Elias Kifle

The Reporter presented news of the Humera fire as follows (in Amharic):

በትግራይ ክልል፣ ቃፍታ ሁመራ ወረዳ ልዩ ስሙ አደባይ በተባለው ከተማ በደረሰ የእሳት ቃጠሎ፣ በሰውና በንብረት ላይ ከፍተኛ ጉዳት መድረሱን የአካባቢው ኃላፊዎች ለሪፖርተር ጋዜጣ ገለጹ፡፡ በቃጠሎው ምክንያት ከ3500 በላይ ነዋሪዎች መፈናቀላቸውን ኃላፊዎቹ አስታውቀዋል፡፡

ባለፈው ዓርብ መጋቢት 3 ቀን 2002 ዓ.ም. በተጠቀሰው አካባቢ በተነሣው የእሳት ቃጠሎ፣ የከተማው አንድ ቀጣና ሙሉ ለሙሉ የወደመ ሲሆን፣ ከ800 በላይ ቤቶች ወድመዋል፤ ንብረትም ተቃጥሏል፡፡ የቃፍታ ሁመራ ወረዳ ምክትል አስተዳዳሪ፣ አቶ ክፍሉ ኪሮስ ለሪፖርተር ጋዜጣ እንደገለጹት፣ በተነሣው የእሳት ቃጠሎ በበርካታ ሰውና ንብረት ላይ አደጋ ደርሷል፡፡ በኃላፊው ገለጻ፣ መንሥኤው በመጣራት ላይ ያለ ቢሆንም፣ በመጀመርያ ቀን በተመሳሳይ ጊዜና ሰዓት በአራት ቦታ ላይ የተከሰተ ሲሆን፣ በአደጋው ማሾ እና ኃይለማርያም የተባሉ ሁለት ወጣቶች ሕይወታቸው ሲያልፍ፣ በበርካቶች ላይ ጉዳት ደርሷል፡፡

የቃፍታ ሁመራ ማስታወቂያ ቢሮ በተመሳሳይ እንደገለጸልን ደግሞ፣ በ816 ቤቶች ላይ በደረሰው ቃጠሎ በ450 አባወራዎች ላይ ጉዳት የደረሰ ሲሆን፣ በአጠቃላይ ከ3500 በላይ የሚሆኑ ነዋሪዎች በአደጋው ተፈናቅለዋል፡፡ የቢሮው ኃላፊ አቶ ፀጋይ ገሰሰው እንዳሉት፣ አደጋው የተከሰተው መጋቢት 3 ቀን 2002 ዓ.ም. 8 ሰዓት ከ40 ደቂቃ ሲሆን፣ በአራት የተለያዩ አካባቢዎች በተመሳሳይ ጊዜና ሰዓት ቃጠሎው መከሰቱን ገልጸዋል፡፡

እንደ ኃላፊው ገለጻ፣ በመጀመሪያው ቀን በተነሣው አደጋ፣ ከ800 በላይ ቤቶች ሙሉ ለሙሉ የተቃጠሉ ሲሆን፣ በተከታታይ ሁለት ቀናትም 16 ተጨማሪ ቤቶችም ወድመዋል፡፡

በአደጋው ዶሮዎችን ጨምሮ ከ1500 በላይ የቤት እንስሳት አልቀዋል፤ በሰብልም ላይ ከፍተኛ ጉዳት ደርሷል፡፡ አቶ ፀጋይ እንደሚሉት፣ 1456 ኩንታል ሰሊጥና 1118 ኩንታል ማሽላ፣ ዘጠኝ ኩንታል ጤፍም በቃጠሎው ወድሟል፡፡

ስለ አደጋው መንሥኤ በውል ለመናገር እንደሚቸገሩና በምርመራ ላይ መሆኑን የጠቆሙት ኃላፊዎቹ፣ በአሁኑ ወቅት ሦስት ተጠርጣሪዎች በቁጥጥር ሥር ውለው በፖሊስ ምርመራ እየተደረገባቸው እንደሆነና እስከ አሁን ባለው ጥርጣሬ የኤርትራ መንግሥት እጅ ሊኖርበት እንደሚችል ገልጸዋል፡፡

አደባይ ከተማ ከሁመራ ከተማ 10 ኪሎ ሜትር በስተምሥራቅ የምትገኝ ሲሆን፣ በትናንትናው ዕለትም ባቅራቢያዋ በምትገኘው ሀገረ ሰላም ከተማ ተመሳሳይ የቃጠሎ ሙከራ መደረጉን አመልክተዋል፡፡

የአካባቢው አስተዳደር፣ የባለሀብቶችንና በአካባቢው በሥራ ላይ የሚገኙ የቻይና ተሽከርካሪዎችን ተጠቅመው ቃጠሎውን ለማቆም ጥረት እየተደረገ መሆኑንና አልፎ አልፎ ከሚነሣው ቃጠሎ ውጪ፣ በአሁኑ ወቅት ቃጠሎውን ለመቆጣጠር መቻሉን ኃላፊው አስረድተዋል፡፡

ጉዳት የደረሰባቸው ከ3500 በላይ ነዋሪዎችም መጠነኛ የምግብና የተለያዩ የቁሳቁስ እርዳታ ተደርጎላቸው፣ በአብያተ ክርስቲያናትና በዳሶች ውስጥ ተጠልለው እንደሚገኙ ለመረዳት ተችሏል፡፡ መጋቢት 5 ቀን 2002 ዓ.ም. የትግራይ ክልል ፕሬዚዳንት አቶ ፀጋይ በርሔ ወደ አካባቢው በመሄድ የደረሰውን አደጋ መመልከታቸውም ታውቋል፡፡

    I just have to correct somthing here. The people who are displaced, injured/dead are not residents of Humera or Welkayt. They are Woyane settlers “sefaris”. The real displace people are the people of Welkayt who are literally forced out of their own homeland. What just happened in Humera is God’s strong message to Tigre/Woyane settlers to immediately leave Welkayt and go to whereever they came from.

    They can only live in Welkayt as guest of the Welkayt people and as long as they respect the identity and right of the Welkayt people. However, what is going on right now is the people of Welkayt are treated unfairly and as second citizens in their own homeland.

    My message to sefari Tigres/Woyanes is leave the occupied lands or God will punish you even stronger if his warning is not headed.

  3. The lose of a precious life of a person has always been uneasy task to bear for all of us humans whether the victims of these blazing fire have been our enemies or our friends.

    As I know them very well, the Wolkait-Tegedie people will certainly feel sad for the fire victims of the Tegarues; however, they will never forget what the Tegarues have done to the people of God – the Wolkait-Tegedie people.

    These hungry, contorted faces (ጸዋግ, ጅማታም) Tegarues have illegally taken the land of the Wolkait-Tegedie people and have rendered them landless, homeless, and penniless. The Tegarues in great number used to come every year from far away places such as Mekelle, Agamie, and Adwa regions to work as laborers in the fields of the Wolkait-Tegadie people and get their daily food from these God-fearing people, the Wolkait-Tegedie people. Forgetting their status as ምጸተኛ, these mendicant Tegarues are now using domineering body language over their former masters, the Wolkait-Tegedie people as the people of Wolkait-Tegedie used to say: ጌዜ ያጋጠመው ቅል ድንጋይ ይሰብራል.

    Fire is one of the natural disasters, and it can be preventable if people know what they are doing and watch carefully what is coming to harm them. This fire may have destroyed a portion of the city of Humera, but the impending fire – the wrath of the Wolkait-Tegedie people – is ready to consume the entire city of Humera; anything that moves in that wicked and desecrated city of the Tegarues will be deracinated, and the Wolkait-Tegedie people will rebuild it from the scratch and reclaim it.

    For the time being, these children of the well-known heroes of the people of Wolkait-Tegedie are, of course, very quiet and silent, swallowing their tears and subduing their anger, but one day, the Armacheho, the Tegedie, the Telelo, and the Wolkait people will come together, march toward Humera and suddenly capture the Tegarues, enslave them or destroy them totally, and the blood of the Tegarues will be upon the heads of Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi), his wife Jezebel (Azeb), and their children forever and ever.
