TPLFites to face each other

Former members of the Tigrean People’s Liberation Front (Woyanne) led by Seye Abraha are preparing to challenge those in power led by Meles Zenawi in Woyanne’s own turf — Tigray. J. Sirak of opride.com reports the following:

TPLF finds itself having to defend its home turf, the Tigray region, in the upcoming elections. Medrek, a coalition of eight opposition parties, is going after the big names. Despite a growing anxiety about TPLF’s use of force to rig the election, the opposition is fielding candidates in the ruling party’s strong hold areas.

* Seye Abraha a former TPLF politburo member is running in Qola Tembein.

* Gebru Asrat, the former president of Tigray State and chairman of Arena Tigray is running for the parliament seat in Mekele.

* Asgede GebreSelassie, one of the leading TPLF founders, is running against Abay Tsehaye, TPLF’s Minister of Federal Affairs and National Security Advisor to the PM. Abay Tsehaye, was elected to the House of Peoples Representatives from Selekleka in 2005.

* Aregash Adane, the top woman during the TPLF struggle and one of the most revered fighters will run in Adwa against Meles Zenawi. This is a key post because at the event Meles loses the parliament seat, according to Ethiopian constitution, he cannot stand for the Premiership post. Article 73 of the constitution states that the Prime Minister “shall be elected from among members of the House of Peoples’ Representatives”. Reliable sources also tell Opride.com that Mr. Zenawi might run in Addis Ababa.

* Arena Tigray also announced that it will field candidates in 34 of the 38 constituencies in Tigray. The remaining four seats will be contested by Tigreans in UDJ.

Yet despite such interesting strategic moves by the oppositions, it’s inconceivable to think that the TPLF will allow the opposition to pick limited seats in Tigray, let alone win majority.

  1. Uhmmmmm. It is possible that there is a plan between the opposition Tigrayan groups and Meles group so that the next Seye group take over Ethiopia. Does this mean this is good for Ethiopia as a whole? Not necessarily. Eventhough it is good that they are running against Meles and Co, these group can continue the status quo, the hegemony of Tigray and the rest of Ethiopians will not accept that.

  2. Any single political party that is fighting only in the name of one ethnic group, shouldn’t be trusted, specially TPLF, OLF and ONLF. The last twenty years have been hell on earth for all non-woyane Ethiopians. Who on earth want to repeat the last twenty miserable years under TPLF. Most of these TPLF members have worked closely with dictator Meles in the past and I believe they have the same mind sets and ethic and morale values. We have seen what TPLF is capable of and we have seen enough!!! Not no more!!! It is time multi ethnic party to rule Ethiopia.

  3. Gulucha bilewawet wet aytafitm. Siye abraha and Gebru Asrat are no different than Meless Zenawi for Ethiopians and Ethiopia. Both of them are responsible for 100’s thousand Ethiopian’s who died in the Etio-Eritrea war, they have blood in their hand’s.

  4. This is a joke. Who are they kidding? We know these people do not have balls to really challenge the well established Weyane thuggery. They are acting as if they are didfferent when in fact they are two faces of the same coin. “mot leweyane” and its semblances!

  5. One step at a time but I hope to see the time when any Ethiopian can run for office representing constituents in any province. When Ethiopian politics is free of ethnic affiliation.

    Peace.

  6. The tplf cancer must totally be removed surgically in order peace to prevail in the country. Either this faction of tplf or that faction, it is the same monster bleeding Ethiopia. Our beloved country has been crying and bleeding for the past 2 decades under this brutal terrorist so called government.

  7. all the previous and the present ruling party TPLFites must be removed from the root of the ethiopian politics. by changing parties they cant get forgiveness from Ethiopia. they are still creaminals the likes of seye abreha and gebru asrat……..

  8. We have always known that fact, no TPLF turf would be made available for non Tigryans to contest in. Recently, Engr. Hailu realized that he cannot run in Tigray. Meles and his gangs will win again, this is a long foregone conclusion. The question is: are they going to be Ethiopians that will be killed as a result?

  9. What a joke! This reminds me Obama’s joke of Sarah Palin when he said,’You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig. It’s Still a Pig’. Though now we know Obama himself turned out to be a Pig with lipstick too.

  10. It may not change much but the idea of challenging TPLF in its own turf is interesting. Meles running in Addis is a joke, another interesting thing if it happens. What about Bereket runnung in Gondar instead of Bugna, Lasta.
To be honest, these TPLF people have no place to run if there is true election in Ethiopia.

  11. i dont think TPLF affords to cheat the voices of the ppl in the Tigray region. that will amount to loss of key support required to sustain the life of TPLF. Lets see …

  12. Would you please stop this joke.

If there was true election in Ethiopia, dr Birhanu would have been the mayor of Addis and Birtukan president of the country.

And Siye, Meles, Gebru and Aregash would be in prison. So stop kidding yourself!

  13. Weyanes are challenging each other and the final winner will still be a weyane. You know the leader of a pack of dogs is still just a dog!
Give us real change we can believe in… Not like Obama’s change please.

  14. They are all the same, Seye is the other side of the Coin. either Meles or Seye can’t deliver the Ethiopian people dream. Ethiopia needs change Meles is weyane and Seye is weyane.

  15. SELAM ER;

I always support your militancey, vision,
political stand in almost every issue.

I do not think it is politically viable to categorize former tplf siye and fascist meles at this political termoil. It is an open secret siye did many crimes. It is not secret also that Ethiopia’s politics is getting most complex as one day is added to the misery of Ethiopians. We should think and solve our problems with complex and critical thinking. We cannot solve things by categorizing as black and white. so Elias would you pls. see the whole problems within and outside Ethiopia that these complicated situations could be resolved? Can you see what Mandela shook white hands when he became president? I could have write a lot but for a smart man like you I think you can understand me what followup ideas can bring. so long
    wey gud

  17. who cares if they run after one another, there can`t be any change in so called elections in Ethiopia, the People in this country never had Democracy and will not until the highlander change their attitude, however the only language that woyane Knows is by force and needs that,

    Victory to the oppressed people

  18. The 2010 Election fatigue and Meles’ night mare

“If I’m out, the country will also be out, and the election will be invalid,” says Meles Seitanawi in his dreams and vain imaginations.

Day in and day out, Meles is being tormented by seeing the gathering of dark clouds around the high mountain of the May Election 2010 that he wants to climb and stand up at the summit of this high mountain and declare he is the winner.

The fact, however, remains that Meles has never been a mountain climber and an election winner, and, of course, he is not going to win this coming new Election; therefore, he says that if he is out, the country will be out for sail and the Election will be invalidated by his Agazi Army, and the concerned young Ethiopian students will be out again in the street of Addis Ababa, declaring the legitimacy of the Election.

During this 2010 Election, most of the foreign observers will not comment about the legitimacy of the election until Meles is declared the winner, but if they are absolutely sure he is indeed the looser, they will pack up their suitcases and go home, and after that they will declare that the opposition has won, and the Woyanne government has lost for the second time. Their confirmation that the opposition has won the 2010 Election will be a severe blow to the entire establishment of the corrupt leadership of Meles Seitanawi and his wife Jezebel.

Still in power, though not recognized by the international election committee and by the European and American journalists, Meles will put on the table the following ten proposals to the victorious but powerless opposition leaders:

    1. Power sharing
    2. Reconciliation between the Ethiopians whose loved ones were murdered or imprisoned and the Woyanne government officials
    3. Compensation for those who were unjustly jailed or killed
    4. Invalidation of all the land leases to the foreigners
    5. Complete confession to the crimes that have been committed by the Agazi
    6. Protection of the Meles family from persecution for crimes they might have knowingly or unknowingly committed
    7. Transfer of all government properties to the new democratically elected entities
    8. Bringing the legitimate Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church to power and deposing the illegitimate Aba Paulos
    9. Inviting to court of justice the illegitimate Patriarch for murdering one Ethiopian monk during day time while preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    10. Safe passage to all Woyanne followers to leave the country if they want too.

The new government, after thoroughly discussing the ten proposals, will consider the following numbers unacceptable: 1, 2, 6, and 10 while the rest are commendable.

With rage and frustration, Meles will leave the conference, the first conference of its kind, and news is spreading allover the world that Meles has not yet decided to relinquish power to his opponents and the opposition party is asking the European Union and Washington to convince Meles to leave his office and surrender power peacefully to the winners of the Election 2010. Yet, unconvinced he has lost the election, Meles demands the election committee to recount all the ballots; however, the election committee rejects his desperate demand to recount the votes and urge him to accept defeat graciously and humbly and save his country from impending confusion and even a civil war.

So far, the Tigrean army has been quiet even though it has been rumored that the army is moving with tanks toward Addis Ababa after Meles has been defeated in the election. The army, however, has never left its station and has been waiting patiently to hear the real winner of the election before it takes sides.

It seems though that some Tegarues are leaving in great numbers their homes in Addis Ababa and going back to Tigray; these are the wealthy Tegarues who have made great fortunes for the last 18 years on the expenses of the Amhara, the Oromo, and the other Ethiopian tribes. Will their people in Tigray accept them with open arms or turn them back to Addis Ababa since they have never helped some of the poor Tegarues in the countryside of Mekelle city? Tormenting question of this kind has yet to be answered by the wealthy Tegarues themselves who have been driving the rest of the Ethiopian tribes insane.

And as the wealthy Tegarues move out of Addis Ababa, the marginalized Oromos, the Amharas, and the other tribes move in, not in big number but in a small number because they are still scared of Meles Seitanawi and his wife Jezebel, and they are not yet sure that the wealthy Tegarues have completely left the city.

Those Oromos and Amharas who entered the city after the Tegarues left are like those biblical four men of Samaria who entered the Arameans’ camp and found the camp had been abandoned. Then these hungry four men of the besieged city of Samaria entered one of the tents; they ate and drank, and carried away silver, gold and cloths and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also. They finally announced to the rest of the Samarians that the Arameans had indeed left their camps full of food, drink, clothes, and many valuable articles (2nd Kings 7:3-10). But the truth is that the stingy and wealthy Tegarues may never leave behind something important except the houses they have possessed from the legitimate Oromos or Amharas or other Ethiopian tribes.

In reality, Meles will never allow the Tegarues to leave Addis Ababa, and he will never leave power without a fight, and so let us fight and remove him from his office as soon as we know we have won the Election.

  19. Mahlit, you are absolutely right.

These fake election is a show for the out side world. All Ethiopians know that Woyanes are making a mockery of Democracy. Most of the oppositions will be woyanes, and no matter what happens Woyanes will always be in power.

  20. frankly, I am skeptic about the fact that siye and meles have ideological differences. what if there is some sort of a deal between the two to save the dying and unpopular regime?let’s wait and see.
    mesfin

  21. Hahaha,

Do you believe Meles will let democracy in Ethiopia, wake up people, he killed 200 inocesent citizens in the streets of Adis. What will make you think he cant repeat it now, while he has already cleared the main rival opposition groups.
Waiting for elections in Africa are for the weak.
    Cool guy
