Officials in Ethiopia have refuted reports by international media on the current food crisis as bogus and exaggerated. A government statement today, which is backed by UN agencies operating in Addis Ababa, said it was a misrepresentation that Ethiopia was in need of supplementary feeding for its six million children facing acute malnutrition.
“The number of children with severe and acute malnutrition problem is estimated to be 75,000 all over the country,” said Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (DPPA) Director General Mr Simon Mechale.
He explained there was a total relief requirement of 300,000 metric tones of food, of which he said the agency had already distributed more than 81,000 metric tones across the nation, adding that some 4.5 million people were in need of emergency food assistance, excluding those people who are beneficiaries of safety-net program.
Referring to children, Mr Mechale said considerable efforts were being made by both the Ethiopian government and humanitarian partners to address prevailing situation in areas where children are affected.
This was reiterated by Minister of Health Dr. Tewodros Adhanom, saying government was aggressively expanding health extension program by deploying extension workers in every village. Some 82% of the work had already been achieved, according to the minister.
United Nations Resident Coordinator Fidele Sarassoro also said there was a good working relations between the Ethiopian government and humanitarian community in meeting the challenges faced by the country, noting government had taken steps to strengthen the coordination of emergency response at all levels to meet the challenges faced in the area of food, nutrition, health and water.
The UN has been providing solid assistance to help Ethiopia address the challenge. The Horn of African country has a history of the world’s worst drought that killed a million Ethiopians in October 1984.

So what if it is exaggerated? you can never over feed hungry people.These morrons are shameful. If the situation is exaggerated it will aid us, the starving people, not hurt us. These parasites have a small mind for sure.
This sad famine crisis brought up by Woyanne’s racist policies will be the downfall of this apartheid regime in the end. Emperor Haileselassie and Menghistu were done in by their lack of care for the people of Ethiopia, their main goal like the Woyannes was oppressing their people and killing civilians in the name of Ethiopia while in reality they were nothing but puppets of the super powers of their time. The reason this time the Woyanne propagandists are running to deny the famine news is to hide the kind of genocide they are perpetrating against the Somali people, in Oganden, Oromia, and other parts of Ethiopia where people are fighting to free themselves from tyranny.
Most NGOs are run by western intelligence agencies so they won’t publicize Woyanne atrocities, what the tyrants are afraid of are the occassional individuals who will be horrified by what is going on in Ethiopia and start to tell the world the truth. As for Woyanne agency that goes by the name DPPA is nothing but an extension of USAID whose main purpose is to paralize the Ethiopian peoples capacity to get ahead and build their country on their own. All Ethiopians should learn a lesson from Eritrea, ever since the government of Eritrea kicked USAID out Eritrea has been registering impressive gains in food self sufficiency, soon Eritrea will be able to feed itself fully and export food to all parts of the globe, once the people of Ethiopia free themselves out of Woyanne and their masters rule they will be able to feed themselves and feed other people around the world. Everyone knows with proper policy and management Ethiopa could be the leading food producer in Africa.

Elias: That is the silliest question ever because Weyanne is a shameful and irredeemable liar. For the past 50 years Ethiopia has been one of the world’s largest recipient of foreign assistance. Ethiopia should be one of the richest countries in Africa, but the country is one of 10 poorest countries in the world. So, my question is this: Where has all the money gone?

#6. If the person discredited others it shows that he lacks ideas. But you seem to be doing it in a much better way than he did. Is it good for Ethiopia for its people to focus on discrediting individuals? You can promote your preferred leader; but insulting others shows your lack of ideas. Do you follow leaders because they hold a PhD and undermine others just because of lack of it? That means like I have to blame you for confusing “lacky” for “lucky”. I do not follow that person as leader too, but I advise you to focus of ideas and common enemies; that will contribute to the end sought by the Ethiopian people.
