Woyanne soldiers killed in Somalia rocket fire

MOGADISHU (Garowe Online) – Ethiopian Woyanne troops bolstering Somalia’s weak interim government were targeted in a rocket attack Thursday in the capital Mogadishu, witnesses said.

An insurgent rocket propelled grenade hit a convoy of Ethiopian Woyanne army trucks transporting water to a military base in north Mogadishu located near the ex-pasta factory.

Three Ethiopian Woyanne soldiers on board one of two water trucks were killed immediately after the truck exploded, according to eyewitness accounts.

Ethiopian Woyanne army reinforcements rushed to the scene from their base at the former pasta factory.

A 20-minute skirmish ensued, pitting the Ethiopian Woyanne troops against suspected insurgents.

One of the insurgents was shot and killed by the soldiers, a witness told Garowe Online by telephone.

The remaining group of attackers was forced to flee the scene after the Ethiopian Woyanne soldiers outgunned them.

The exploded water truck was towed away while the second water truck, which was unharmed, was escorted back to base under heavy guard.

Minister’s car bombed

In a separate incident, the personal car of Somali Information Minister Ahmed Abdisalan was targeted in a landmine explosion that wounded the driver and a bodyguard, witnesses said.

Mr. Abdisalan, who also holds the post of Deputy Prime Minister, was not in the car when the landmine exploded. But his personal driver and a bodyguard were wounded, according to the driver who spoke to local media afterwards.

No group has claimed responsibility for planting the landmine, but security sources linked the attack to insurgents fighting to topple the country’s secular government.

Mogadishu police spokesman Abdullahi Shasha told reporters today that no government soldier was hurt in an overnight insurgent attack.

Locals reported that heavy fighting erupted overnight Wednesday along the Maka-al-Mukarama Road. But the situation was calm as of Thursday morning, with hundreds of Ethiopian Woyanne and Somali soldiers patrolling the street.

  1. ELIAS,
You are calling members of Ethiopia defense forces as Woyanne forces and it seems that you are happy when they killed and humiliated. It is absolutely shame and unbelievable. They are least your country men but you still mocking on them. But if you continue with thins kind of dirty game, one day you might be liable for it.

Death is not a fitting punishment to those Woyanne mercenary soldiers and their commanders who are occupying Somalia, murdering its children and raping its women. – Elias

  3. to LIability
firstly I feel sorry for your moronic comment, the only person single handedely fighting the TPLF regime and who mobilasing all ethinic groups for one democraatic direction is Mr. Eliase.we salut him we honour him we respect him, he is a national hero not a paid banda like you. invading somalia has not been a national interst it’s woyane’s aim inorder to get American blessing, the Army of TPLF is controlled by Tigrians it’s not an Ethiopian Army that’s why we are calling then woyane soldiers, there is nothing wrong with Mr Elias’s reporting,we Ethiopian knows whose blood is boiling when the truth reavaled. Allah bless you Elias!!!!

  4. Liability

Meles and you(liability), the ass kisser of Meles should be liable of all lives lost inside or outside the country. Any one serving the criminal(Meles)- will appear in court with his or her criminal master.

  5. liability;

They are not Ethiopian defense forces instead murderer of ethiopian people. If they are true ethiopian forces, they would have not killed innocent ethiopian people. They should have point their guns against dictator.

  6. They arrested the great singer teddy afro, for no reason , they attack there own people , because they are not supporting theme , the food price going up every day because the government became the biggest merchant in Ethiopia, I guess every body could imagine what will be next , if we don’t solve this big problem right now!! Wake up Diaspora !!
One thing we got to remember is, no one except Ethiopians, are not going to solve Ethiopian problem , we are the ones we been waiting !! Our people are expecting a lot of things from us , let’s unify and bring a better life for our own follow citizen , no matter where u from , and who u are , as Ethiopian we have the responsibility!!

YES WE CAN!! as Haile Gebreselassie saied
even if Oboma made this word much poplar

  7. Oh god; Meles and his wife are in NY enjoying at the expense of the people of Ethiopia while the youngsters Soldiers are being slaughtered in Somalia and all over Ethiopia. Oh people of Ethiopia the thugs led by Meles must be brought to the court of law before they could find another escape route like Mengistu or Ed Amin.

  8. We are under no moral obligation to call those who kill Ethiopian childs and our hope of democracy “Ethiopian soldiers”. Anyone who serves the interests of Woyane is to go down in history as “responsible”. It does not mean that there are no good men and women in the “Ethiopian Defense Force”. The very question is “who they defend and against who”. Apparently, they are not defending Ethiopia and Ethiopians but Woyane against anyone including the people of Ethiopia.

we know goed men and women in the army are dying in Somalia but let’s be honest; do they not belong to the same armed forces that killed hundreds of Ethiopian in broad day light in the open streets of Addis and elsewhere in the country? Did they not support Woyane when Ethiopians demand their right for peace, freedom, and democracy? Are they not committing inexplicable atrocities on millions of Ethiopians everyday of the year? Where is their sense of integrity that we Ethiopians inherited from our fathers?

Sorry guys, there is no use in hiding the truth. They are not “Ethiopian defense”. They are Woyane’s defense getting their ass kicked in Somalia…

  9. Woyyanee is a criminal mafia group in the horn, which is hated the most by all populations in the horn of Africa.

    Down with Woyane!

Freedom to all peoples of the HORN!!!

  10. To Liability

As far as we are concerned over 96% of the population of Ethiopia, this is not our war. It is a war fought to divert the attention of Ethiopians away from our democratic struggle. As for the soldiers, they are not Ethiopian soldiers, they are serving the illegitimate regime of Meles and Co. Therefore they do not deserve the honor of being called Ethiopian soldiers. Moreover they are rapists and thugs. We Ethiopians would not like to associate with these thugs.

  11. I always find it hard to believe that you are labeling the Ethiopian soldiers dying in Somalia as woyane. This is totally unacceptable. You have no right to deny them their Ethiopiawinet. The fact of the matter is that they may be victims of a misguided policy but they are Ethiopians and no one must be denying them that.
It is fair to have a different view on the issues and argue accordingly. Name calling and other mudslinging tatics will not be productive in anyway. You will also be lacking professional standard and objectivity.

  12. woyane want to impose the somali people their formula opperession, curuption, aggression, hypocracy, fabricated lies, inventing wars, suffocating media……. Somalis are awaken the mess in ethiopia coused by this cult of Tplf, they cry as victim hood & do to others what they claim MENGISTU did to them, what a hypocracy. Any invader or dictator in this modern time should be confronted by all…..

  13. Dear Abdi,

Please use a medium that you are comfortable with. The message is so incoherent, its hard to make any thing out of it. Use the good old Amarigna or any other language that you are comfortable with, but not English please. Oh no!

  14. Dear Dinsa, what`s bothering you is not the quality of the language but the truth you and the rest of Woyanne cadres are confronted with.We all know that you cann`t handle it and that`s why you are changing the subject.TPLF is in big trouble and things will only get worse for them in Somalia and in Ogaden. When are you going to realize that maybe you chewed more than you could swallow

  15. liability….

So Elias is liable for expressing a comment but meles and co are not liable for sending them to death , having them fihght against Ethiopia, having them kill, rape….Please, you aint fooling no one, you learned a new word, “liable”, now you want to use in every sentence….Ethiopian soldiers allegiance should be to Ethiopia, not to Meles.

  16. Dear Abdi

You should thank me for pointing out your predicaments. You did better this time in terms of conveying your message.Coming to the issue at hand, you are no different from the many Ethiopians I encounter in this forum. If some one has a different perspective and does not share your view, alas! that is a woyane. Please think outside the box, people may have different views and it is very democratic to evaluate the merit and demerit of the message. If you attack the messenger and take it personal, it is not going to help the situation.
You see my friend, accusing the regime of not being democratic is not enough. We have to ask ourselves if democracy has really taken root in our society in general and the opposition in particular. Building a democratic society is not an easy task. It is a gradual process and will take time. It is also the responsibility of not only the government, but also the people including the Diaspora and the opposition to facilitate the creation of a democratic society. And that among other things requires confidence building measures, tolerance and respect. Hence let us all do our part to bridge the gap.
