  1. Dr. Berhanu Nega to attend “Endangered Scholars Worldwide,”
EMF – The New School for Social Research invited EMF and other concerned citizen to take part on the 75th Anniversary of University in Exile. The report is also mentioned that Dr. Berhanu Nega is one of the panalists from Ethiopia.

The letter sent to EMF stated that an evening event on Thursday, February 7, 2008, from 5:30-7:00 pm is scheduled in New York city. In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the University in Exile, The New School for Social Research is hosting a discussion on the plight of endangered scholars around the world.

Panelists include scholars who have faced imprisonment, have been forced into exile from their home countries in order to escape persecution, or were denied a visa to speak or teach in the U.S. Scholars include Akbar Ganji from Iran, Mehrangiz Kar from Iran, Berhanu Nega from Ethiopia, Donny George Youkhanna from Iraq, and Adam Habib via videoconference from South Africa. The event is free and open to the public and a reception will follow the panel discussion at which the audience will be free to ask questions.

The letter also informed that this event is being held as part of a new initiative of our journal, Social Research. “Endangered Scholars Worldwide” is a new, regular feature in their international quarterly journal and also appears on our website.

Social Research was founded by a group of scholars known as “The University in Exile”, refugees from Nazi Europe who found a home in The New School.

  2. Hi Andenet:

Thanks for sharing the above info about Dr. Berhanu. In the link you provided it says that Dr. Berhanu is an ” International Scholar in Residence, Economics, Bucknell University; Mayor-elect of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)”.

I’m just curious if you can tell us more whether Dr. Berhanu is currently an international scholar in residence at Bucknell, as that seems to be the case, as part of a research fellowship he’s undertaking or something to that effect.

    Thanks,

    Anon
