  1. The last twenty-four hours, I was in deep thoughts that he gets buried on the grounds of the legendary and magnificient Holy Trinity church. They must have processed the permit fast enough as his records are widely known to the government and the society. As you might know, on the lower level where mass is held, the immediate royal family’s bodies are laid to rest in side the church. On the compound, are the the bodies of dignitaries especially those who served in the highest honor, war heros/ heroines etc. He deserves to be buried there.

He deserves to be buried there?

I can’t imagine any of te Beetles being buried amongst the British Royal family, or amongst those who sought to proect their nation.

  3. There is no dispute that this man was a great asset to Ethiopian music & indeed Ethiopian culutre over the many years in which he enterained us. On the same note, I can’t imagine any of the Beetles being burried amongst the British Roay family.

  4. what shoking news, really unbearable.we just lost an icon for the ethiopians.
may god confort the family and his habesha fans!!!!.i wish i could be there for the funeral.

  5. Well, I say this:
He lived like a king, married 9 wives, 100 kids. He was never a dad to any of those kids, so therefore I say his music will be missed but as a dad, he wont be missed because he was never one.

  6. Dear Girma,
In the middle of all this sorrow, memory and sentiment, you made me wonder in solemn smile (especially the comparison with the Beetles, I stay corrected, but Queen Elizabeth had bestowed the title of Knight or Lord on Paul McCartney).

You see, Tilahun is a national treasure, and deserves to be buried in a national cemetery. That way, the entire public knows where to go and pay him a respect.

I think we honor people like Tilahun not necessarily just for the music, but also for the era, the whole package, the memory of every life event except death. He was also more than a singer; he was an active Ethiopian among society as well as a nationalist.

  7. It’s been such a shock to learn the passing of our beloved artist Dr. Tilahun. His legacy is so wonderful even in death his accomplishment in music industry resonates. In your music you had been a lighting rod to comfort every feeling whether it is happiness or sorrow. May god have mercy in your soul. Good bye Tilahun

  8. I am so depressed about his death. He was my mom’s Idol. But I’m so surprised that meles wrote a letter about his sympathy because I didn’t know he had a heart!!! I was saw him at the Ethiopian soccer field festival. He was basically crying his eyes out for his country. I’m 11 years-old and god take soul.

  9. Artist Tilahun is undoubtedly the best in his field. He deserves a dacent burial. But not where the gallant sons of Ethiopia are burried. The burial ceremony is such that we Ethiopians do not know our priorities. Be as it may what shocked me most is when the message of the president was read that in previous governments singing other than in Amharic was forbidden but Tilahun was bold enough to sing in Oromiffa. It is really shamefull. We all know that is not true. Why tell the nation what is not true. I am really ashamed.

  10. Let God Rest him in peace. I have a big respect and appreciation for Tilahun since I was six years old. I am not surprised to hear that he could not get help from the clinic he went, because I have experianced the same situation while I was taking care of my mom. It is so sad to end his life this way. It hurt so much. I wish for the family to be strong and carry on his legend.

  11. Engdih men yedereg Tilahun rasu bekalu endih belo zefnolenal ” Yehew Abet Abet Elalehu Bedel Beztobegene Echohalehu Elalehu”. Slezih Betesebochu Ena Ye Ethiopia Hizb Egezeabher Yastnachu.

    Amen

  12. Why did he die the same day he arrived to ethiopia? May be because he loves his country so much and God wants him to see his beloved country for the last time before he dies. I also think that may be he wouldnt die if he was in the us. Since our er is way different from thier er.
