Re: January 27, 2010 On-Line Article Entitles “Ethiopian billionaire’s daughter faces stoning in Saudi”

Dear Mr. Kifle:

This firm represents Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi and his family.

We are writing to you regarding the content of your article entitled “Ethiopian billionaire’s daughter faces in Saudi,” appearing on-line in the January 27, 2010 edition of the Ethiopian Review. Your article states that the “identity of the alleged Saudi Princess given secret asylum in the United Kingdom early last year has been revealed” as Sarah Mohammed Al Amoudi, daughter of Sheikh Mohammed Al Amoudi. The alleged Saudi Princess referenced in your article is not the daughter of Sheikh Al Amoudi, The information in your article making the link between the alleged Saudi Princess and the Al Amoudi family is false, highly inflammatory, and is a defamatory statement.

We insist that you immediately cease and desist from making this false and defamatory statement. We also demand that you issue an immediate retraction of the article by issuing a formal statement disclaiming the link between the alleged Saudi Princess and the Al Amoudi family, by removing the reference to Sheikh Al Amoudi and his family from this on-line article, and by issuing an apology to Sheikh Al Amoudi and his family.

If you are represented by counsel, have your counsel contact us immediately to discuss this very serious matter. If you are not represented, you may contact us directly to confirm arrangements for the retraction and apology.

  5. What does he think he is? Does he think this is Ethiopia where folks are silenced for their expression? It is one thing to fire back stating that the allegation made was not true and completely another thing to try to hold any ones hand and mouth from expressing ideas. I would say the same thing “ screw you Alamudi and your suck up lawyers. “ your money might buy you something but it will not be able to take some ones liberty and freedom of speech.

  12. Woyanne and their partner in crime and looting are trying to silence Elias by hiring a well known “law firm” that represents American friendly African dictators and their bag men.

    I am sure their next move is going to be to sue Elias for libel in a state court, these guys have deep pockets with money stolen from the poor people of Ethiopia and US tax payers money being handed out to Melles and his crime syndicate who call themselves “the democratically elected government of Ethiopia”.

    My Ethiopian brothers and sisters, you better get ready to support Elias in his fight against these monsters by starting a LEGAL DEFENSE FUND FOR ELIAS. They sued the Eritrean heroine Sophia Tesfamariam last year but they lost in court. Patriotic Eritreans in the US supported our heroine Sophia all the way by starting a legal defense fund.

    These criminals will not let a stone unturned to prolong their rule and they will use law firms that represent US state department puppet regimes, this is the time to join the fight and show them peace and justice loving Ethiopians in the US will not be intimidated by these shameless dictators and their American lawyers.

  13. Intimidation at its best.!! The law firm, trying to muzzle poor Ethiopian American citizens need to be exposed of what they are doing. US citizens and the rest of the world need to know the tremendous amount of money this law firm is getting paid from the leaders of the poorest countries in Africa and their close friends, while Ethiopians and the rest of African citizens going hungry and die everyday. No wonder the whole African continent is the way it is–as long as big law firms in DC such as this continue to represent African dictators and their friends to muzzle average citizens, the dictatorship in Ethiopia and other African counties will continue for ever. It makes me sick knowing my grand father gave his life during Italian war for Meles and Al Moudi to abuse their power to intimidate Ethiopians. What a shame!!

  16. I, for one, am with you in this Elias. I just couldn’t stand Al Amoudi man. I don’t understand who he thinks he is. How someone can get completely lost. It seems he has no the slightest clue as to how the law operates here. What wonders me more is what kind of law firm this DLA piper is. Are they “professionals” from Congo? Blood suckers!

When we march in victory and capture or kill all enemy of Ethiopia, we should spare the fat Arab for financial compensation for all evil deeds he has done to our country and to our people. After the deal he should get his punishment according to the holy book of the Koran.

    I am really amazed at the scope of the comments. Some people think they happen to be real Ethiopian only if one is from the highlands. This “Entiltlement Syndrome” seem to run wild in our “Diaspora” Community. I know for a fact that this website is filtered in Ethiopia so i am sure all the comment is coming from abroad. I was able to post this comment only because I frequently travel out of Ethiopia. Alamoudi was born and raised in Ethiopia, he might have an arab ancestory but he is Ethiopian. Entitlement Syndrome + Inferiority Complex is an explosive mix, take it easy bro. Alamoudi happens to give jobs to thousands of our brothers and sisters and atleast that is something. If you think you r better come to Ethiopia and do something.

    This is interesting. DLA Piper takes blood money from criminals and crooks and protects tyrants, murderers and big time criminals in power. That representations of criminal act was targeted at the USA Government level to block the passing of legislations to combat tyranny. As if that (protecting murderers in power) was not enough, now DLA Piper are going down to individual level to intimidate and silence crtiques, not only of the the tyrants, but also its financiers. Very interesting.

    Now, here is my suggestions. All Ethiopian lawyers, like Shakespear and others, get your heads together and think of standing by our brother in case these drenched-with-brood-money-drunkards go ahead with their threat.

    Those writers and critiques of the tyrant regime, take up your pen and get ready to make sure we teach lesson DLA Piper once for all. Let them attempt to sue thousands of us writing on hundreds of websites and blogs. Surely we are capable of exposing them to public, the American tax payers. Soon all papers would pin them down. We can bring up their shameful acts of milking blood money from tyrants. Oh, don’t you worry about evidences. All the donated money to feed the poor is coming back to America as a legal fee to DLA Piper. We have ample evidences about that.

  39. What Elias need to do is to go public and seek the support of Ethiopian institutions in the diaspora.
    In the first glance this appears to be about Elias and the article he published about Al Amoudi’s daughter.
    But in reality this could be directed against his work as a journalist opposed to the Meles regime and against the opposition in the diaspora as a whole.

  47. Great job Elias. All of us in London’s Ethiopian Community our with you. Not only does Sarah Al Amoudi believe her father was responsible for her American lover’s death. She believes that her father wants to kill her and her young child as well. According to my source at a London newspaper that reported the story, Sarah legally changed the name of her daughter in a London court to protect her. As she states in the article, she was completely cut off from her family (by Sheikh Al Amoudi) when she fled to London in 2000. That same year she had her daughter. Despite being alone in London, with no job and an infant daughter to look after, the heartless Sheikh Al Amoudi didn’t send a penny to help his daughter or grandchild.
