Egypt to grow tobacco in Ethiopia

EDITOR’S NOTE: Grow tobacco while the people don’t have enough food to eat. Stupid.

CAIRO (Reuters) – Egypt’s cigarette monopoly Eastern Company (EAST.CA) is negotiating with the Ethiopian government ruling tribal junta in Ethiopia to buy 10-20 hectares of land for growing tobacco, the daily al-Mal quoted its chairman as saying.

Egypt, the Arab world’s most populous state, has been looking to expand its agricultural investments in east Africa. Last month the prime minister sent a committee to investigate growing wheat in Uganda.

Eastern Company will buy the land and seek the expertise of international companies to cultivate the crop. Among companies it is considering partnerships with are Universal Corp (UVV.N), Alliance One International (AOI.N) and a British group.

“Eastern Company will enter into an equal partnership with one of these companies, once an agreement is made, to begin benefitting from its expertise in the field of tobacco cultivation,” al-Mal quoted Nabil Abdel Aziz as saying.

Procedures for receiving the land and agreeing with a company could take up to a year, the paper cited Abdel Aziz as saying.

Eastern Company was not immediately available for comment.

Shares in Eastern Company were up 1.3 percent at 129 Egyptian pounds by 1032 GMT. (Writing by Shaimaa Fayed; Editing by David Holmes) ($1=5.471 Egyptian Pound)

  3. For now it is tobacco and the next crop will be poppies. As far as Egyptians concerned, they know what Ethiopia needs and deserve more Cigarettes and Cocaine to curb their hunger.

Have Ethiopians not learned from the history that many times and for many years the Arabs under the cover of religion tried to conquer the sources of ” Al-Jana ” which means the stream of paradise, the high land of Ethiopia which is providing the neighboring countries with rivers ? Arabs are very active to reach the source of White Nile but unfortunately they are facing a firm resistance from the Southern Sudan and Ugandans. In case of the Blue Nile the Arabs are already there but it is the matter of time to controll it. The Arabs are already in the homes of Ethiopians to make them the slaves in their country if not in their homes.

  6. The Ethiopian govt is stupid, weak and ignorant in its relationship with foreign nations regarding the nations interest.

    Fresh (rain) water is fundamental to life to all living things (plant and Animals) next to the air to breath. Water is the basic and natural row material for agriculture, construction and anything human being is developing. The pharaohs (blacks) were able to exist and created the first ever advanced human civilization including building the Pyramids was because of the Nile River.
    According to the current Egyptians (most of them are Turks that are more than 500 years of ottoman rule yet pretending as Arabs) admission, 86% Nile water in Egypt comes from the Ethiopian highlands.
    But the truth is that up to 95% of Egypt’s Nile water comes from Ethiopia.
    Yet, our so called leaders seem don’t understand it when they are foolishly and naked dancing around NBI (Nile Basin Initiative). Nile Basin Initiative is created by western Europeans to cheat again the Africans siding with Egypt. Except our so called leaders, the rest of the NBI countries know about it and they are rejecting any unfair agreement that gives favour to Egypt as the English did in 1929 and 1956 even without mentioning the name Ethiopia despite the water is her.

    If I were an Ethiopian representative at the so called NBI, I would know for sure, at least 86% of the vote, saying, game and anything around it is in my hand. The rest (9 nations would share at most only 14% which means less than 2 % each). I would force others to agree with me and signed documents giving guarantees benefits matching the water-contributing share each nation has. I would force Egypt to work for the Ethiopian interest including stopping any involvement that would affect Ethiopia internally and externally as they are doing for years.

    Yet, our so called water representatives seem following what others are telling them to sign the document that would affect Ethiopia, again. Really, so called Ethiopian leaders are stupid, weak, ignorant and with every possible bad habits from centuries a go. They don’t know what is their right and responsibility. They also have no idea protecting the nation interest before anything for their own. They seems are busy to stay on power at the nation expense as usual. They seems are accepting always the back sit in international arena even during the situation the entire stage and game is in their hand. I miss my fathers and for fathers. From where do these animals came from?

    Are they inviting Egypt to take land/have a base to affect Ethiopia from inside? We don’t need them this way. We need respect and stop any negative involvement against the Ethiopian interest. They need to stay away and keep a distance but free and fair relationship. For the record: look how they are treating the Coptics there. Less than 15% Egyptians are having the Arabs ancestry. The rest are predominantly Turks and central Asians, Syrians, Palestinians and the likes.

    What Egypt must know, is that it is a different world now. Only good and acceptable agreement will benefit both of them (Ethiopia and Egypt). She must stop interfering in Ethiopia politics mainly supporting those are against Ethiopia and true citizens that are working and ready to work for her.

    NBI conspiracy is already uncovered. It is designed by western Europeans to mislead the process for Egypt’s interest. Except the woyane sheep and pig type gangs, no one is fool. NBI is a criminal minded initiative and it must be dissolved and sentences to death. Especially Ethiopia don’t need it unless she gets her at least 86% saying right.

    Egypt and Ethiopia must agree without NBI. NBI is dead as far as the true and brave Ethiopians concern, not the woyanes.
