Ethiopia rebels denounce “silence” on violation of rights

Against the “silence” of the world and regional organizations that offer aid “without reacting to the suffering and human rights violations of the rights of local populations” the National front for the liberation of Ogaden (ONLF) has threatened to resume attacks against the facilities of international oil majors in the area.

Although presumably they would be the ones to cause the damage, the ONLF is hedging suggesting that it “will not be responsible for the collateral damage caused to existing infrastructure” in a communiqué issued by the movement which reminds all concerned that “Ogaden is a war zone where no business activities should be carried out”.

The ONLF uses harsh tones toward the UN and the Security Council in particular, which is described as “lackadaisical is looking after the local people’s right to self determination” and “deaf” toward calls to defend the rights violated by the Ethiopian government tribal junta in Ethiopia. – MISNA

  1. I am sick and tired of hearing the so called liberation fronts that are mushroomed here and there by starving and hurting their own people to grab power and later loot and ride on their people’s back when they get what they want. In order for them to reach where they can have the ultimate power in the name of liberation, there should be multitude sacrifices of the young sons and daughters of the unfortunate farmers. We witnessed such strategies from the worst dictators and brutal tyrants of our day, Meles seytanawi and Isayiyas afeworki. These two wicked and ruthless tyrants were using the young generation as their sacrifice lamb or stepping stone for the offices that they are holding today. These so called liberation front leaders are merciless killers and all Ethiopian young generation should be aware of their malicious motives and keep distant from such anarchy groups. I read some article the other day in ER which says “No one in his reasonable mind is going to disintegrate a country just to get power while they can achieve their representation in a government if democracy is given a chance to implement power by the people to the people in one Ethiopia…”
So I think it will be reasonable to fight for democracy and justice in the framework of Ethiopia instead of trying to have 80 small governments and disintegrate a country of 80million people just to be like those two brutal tyrants who enjoys hurting their own people once they reach where they want to be.

  2. Now I know why the West target Eritrea while molly-coddling the brutal tribal junta called the Weyane in Ethiopia.
Had the gov of Eritrea facilitated for the exploitation of its resources and turn a blind eye on the environmental destruction of local community (see people & power:Koka) and hold a mock election and rig it…….the west would have embraced Eritrea and its leadership even if it were to massacre its citizens like the weyane does. The West is after its interest nothing else. Human right and democracy is a mockery. Even in USA have the mony and connection…you’ll be a president. Obama is the one and only who broke that undemocratic way of life in ‘democratic ‘america and now look what they are doing to him….all in the name of democracy and free s[peech. The dumbo Bush was taken as a hero.
We, eritreans won’t be proud of being embraced by pale-skinned West….far from it we rather feel ashamed. The West would never tell off the Weyane as long as the Weyane facilitate for the interest of the multi-national firms of the West. The West call themselves the ‘WORLD’ on many occasions and the Bible says….”being a friend of the ‘WORLD” makes you an enemy of God”. The choice is clear. We’d rather be an enemy of the West(‘WORLD’) than becoming the enemy of GOD.
God bless the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia.

  3. We’ve become a laughing stock of the world. This kururu seytan, meles Chemlaka, can afford to mingle with the white while butchering, jailing, torturing and starving the innocent Ethiopians back home.
    How could that be allowed?
A day will come when meles will be tried in courts and I hope the West that supported his brutal regime will hire a lawyer to defend their lackey. That would reveal their true colourless colour.
    Eneteyayalen Esti!!

  4. If it was not for the support given by the West, the Woyanes would have been history a long time ago. As mentioned by some of the commentators the west is only after its interest, namely, the exploitation of resources and could care less about what happens to the population as long as their chosen ‘leaders’ are providing them with unhindered access to the resources. That’s why Eritrea, Zimbabwe and other countries trying to be responsive to the development needs of their people and nation are attacked by the western governments and media.
