VANCOUVER – Police say they are getting plenty of help from the Lower Mainland’s Ethiopian community in the wake of Sunday’s shooting that disrupted a party and left three men injured.
But investigators still haven’t tracked down the two male suspects behind the shooting at the Polish Community Centre at 4015 Fraser St.
Const. Howard Chow said the shooting took place during a physical fight between two groups of people at a party organized by the Ethiopian community. Three men were hit, all in the lower body, and two men fled in what investigators believe is a “large, newer-model white SUV,” Chow said.
“What turned out to be an argument between two groups, a dispute of some sort, quickly escalated into a physical fight and the next thing you know somebody pulled out a handgun. Shots were fired,” Chow said.
Since then, two of the victims have been released from hospital; the third is in stable condition.
Chow said at least 13 witnesses were taken to the downtown police station for statements.
The suspects are black [Ethiopian] males, one in his mid-30’s, the other in his mid-20’s, Chow said.
