ETHIOPIANS HELD A WORLDWIDE TELECONFERENCE AND ISSUED A RESOLUTION ON THE CURRENT CRISIS INSIDE THE MELES REGIME
Several Ethiopians from several cities around the world held a teleconference on Sunday, April 1, and issued a resolution after discussing the current internal crisis that has engulfed Prime Minister’s ruling party, Tigray People Liberation Front.
The conference agreed to call for the immediate resignation of Meles Zenawi, and for the setting up of a transitional government of national unity composed of all opposition political parties, civic associations and elder statesmen. The resolution will be released shortly.
Participants of the worldwide teleconference included political and civic leaders, scholars, human rights activists, and other concerned Ethiopians who reside around the world.
The teleconference was organized by Ethiopian Democratic Action League (TEGBAR), a worldwide Ethiopian civic movement dedicated to the promotion of democratic governance, and respect for human rights and rule of law.
The conference called on political and civic groups, including trade unions, student and professional associations and other Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia around the world to mobilize to bring about the end of Meles Zenawi’s brutal dictatorship. The conference also called upon Ethiopians of Tigrean ethnic background to disassociate themselves from the Meles anti-Ethiopia dictatorial regime.
TEGBAR League, on its part, has launched weekly demonstrations and rallies every Monday in front of the Ethiopian embassy in Washington, DC starting April 2 until May 21, 2001, to demand the immediate resignation of Meles Zenawi.
TEGBAR also calls on Ethiopian political parties and civic associations to convene a national conference as soon as possible to setup an all-inclusive transitional government composed of all political parties and civic associations, as well as elder statesmen.
