Iverson tweets he is Memphis-bound

Ten-times NBA All Star guard Allen Iverson, currently a free agent, said on Wednesday he was moving to the Memphis Grizzlies.
“God chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career,” Iverson, 34, wrote on his Twitter account, adding that he had met with Memphis officials and head coach Lionel Hollins.

“I feel they are committed to developing a winner (sic) and I know that I can help them to accomplish that. I feel that I can trust them,” added Iverson, who was with the Detroit Pistons last season.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper reported on Wednesday Iverson had accepted a one-year contract with a $3.5 million salary and a series of incentives.

Later in the day, the Grizzlies confirmed they had agreed “in principle” to take on Iverson.

“We anticipate signing him to a contract very soon,” Memphis general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement.

Iverson, the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2001, played with the Philadelphia 76ers for 10 years before joining the Denver Nuggets and then Detroit.
