If Meles see Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Eritrea as enemy then why Meles has given fertile land to Saudi and Egypt to feed their own people and Meles gave a breathing room to shaebia when they were surrounded during the border war???
Had Meles push for a week or demand Shaebia to sign the border at Meles’s wish Shaebia did not have any choice but to sign it or flee to exile and Ethiopian could have rolled in and control the entire Eritrea.
The Ethiopia enemy is Meles Zenawi, no one else. Saudi, Egypt and Eritrea are doing everything to secure their own interest not for the interest of Ethiopia; therefore, the land locker is Meles not Saudi and Egypt or Eritrea. If we want to see Ethiopia regain sea outlet, Ethiopia has to remove Meles first and we shall see what will happen. If the leader of Ethiopia was a different leader may be Shaebia could have behaved accordingly. Today Shaebia is acting according the Meles gut and records and I do not fault them working for their own vital interest.
Didn’t Meles called the brave General Berhe Shaebia from the war zone because his troops were advancing to Asmara to capture it and when he arrived in Addis Ababa he was assassinated with his wife at night because he humiliated Shaebia???
Where is the outrage of Ethiopians specially Tigrayans to defend the slain General who was doing his job and protecting our pride and interest???
It was possible for Ethiopia to liberate Assab by force in 2000, but remember, Meles was adamant the Assab is Eritrean land and Ethiopia has no right to it. So by what right can you expect Meles to change his mind now, he has no intention of doing what you want him to do, and even if he wants to liberate Assab today he doesn't have the support of the people, and nothing can be done without the support of the people.
It would be a great catastrophe for Ethiopia if Meles were to liberate Assab now, because it will mean he will become president for life and he will keep doing all the evil he does today. Meles must never be allowed to liberate Assab, a very bad idea.
I agree with your argument that Meles gave Shabia a breathing room in 2000, because no military that has the upper hand seeks to negotiate with the enemy, it is unheard of. The Tigrayan people signed their death warrant when they allowed Meles to enter the Algiers agreement, and then to go for the EEBC arbitration after total victory over Shabia. That was the most insane and most suicidal move Tigrayans made, only because their burning hatred for Amhara blinded their eyes to the insanity of Meles' actions.
It is not a good idea for you to think that you can remove Meles and then to invade Eritrea to take back Assab, it will not work. There is timing for everything, back in 2000 when Tigray could have liberated Assab it failed to do so, now that window of opportunity is gone forever, so the future will look very different from the past, war won't solve anything, there has got to be a better way.
This General Berhe Sahbia may have been "brave", but he was not smart, whether he liked it or not as a military man he had the duty to obey his commander. You can't just have a loose cannon running around and making his own decisions in a time of war, especially a war like that. Military discipline means, you have to obey your commander no matter how much you may dislike the orders you get. Don't try to make a hero out of a fool.
