Lazo appreciated the solidarity of the Ethiopian people in the struggle for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, The Cuban Five, who were arrested in the United States in September, 1998 and given harsh sentences for informing Cuban authorities of violent actions by Florida-based anti-Cuban groups.
During a meeting with relatives of The Cuban Five on Monday, Gemeda Dago expressed interest in a solution of their case and said that Ethiopia, as other African countries, is very active in the struggle for their release.
Gemeda pointed out that Ethiopia is very active in the struggle for the release of The Five, as they’re known internationally, and asserted that for them this is also a priority issue.
On behalf of the relatives of The Cuban Five, Mirta Rodriguez, the mother of Guerrero's, appreciated the support expressed by the Ethiopian parliament, which have been in the forefront of the struggle for their release.
