Lazo appreciated the solidarity of the Ethiopian people in the struggle for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, The Cuban Five, who were arrested in the United States in September, 1998 and given harsh sentences for informing Cuban authorities of violent actions by Florida-based anti-Cuban groups.

During a meeting with relatives of The Cuban Five on Monday, Gemeda Dago expressed interest in a solution of their case and said that Ethiopia, as other African countries, is very active in the struggle for their release.

Gemeda pointed out that Ethiopia is very active in the struggle for the release of The Five, as they’re known internationally, and asserted that for them this is also a priority issue.

On behalf of the relatives of The Cuban Five, Mirta Rodriguez, the mother of Guerrero's, appreciated the support expressed by the Ethiopian parliament, which have been in the forefront of the struggle for their release.

Greetings, Comrade Adwash and comrade Eden,

Your communist Cuban comrades have indicated that you communist woyanes are moving heaven and Earth to secure the release of Cuban prisoners held in the US. I know the idea of willing slaves freeing others is very funny, but if what your communist Cuban comrades said about you is true, why are you communist woyanes holding thousands of Ethiopian journalists and dissidents in underground dungeon on trumped-up charges that carries a sentence of life imprisonment and the death penalty?
