
Cuba and Ethiopia Boost Parliamentary Ties

Havana, Cuba, Apr 10.- Cuban and Ethiopian leaders expressed mutual appreciation for the Ethiopian support to Cuba against US hostility and for Cuba's contribution to achieving independence in the African country.
Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Ethiopian People, Abadula Gemeda Dago, met on Tuesday and discussed issues of bilateral interests as part of close, long-standing relations between the two countries, according to a press release.
Gemeda Dago, on a visit through Apr.11, referred to his government's priority implementation of the Five-Year Development and Transformation Plan.
Lazo appreciated the solidarity of the Ethiopian people in the struggle for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, The Cuban Five, who were arrested in the United States in September, 1998 and given harsh sentences for informing Cuban authorities of violent actions by Florida-based anti-Cuban groups.

Ethiopian Parliamentarian Speaks with Relatives of The Five
During a meeting with relatives of The Cuban Five on Monday, Gemeda Dago expressed interest in a solution of their case and said that Ethiopia, as other African countries, is very active in the struggle for their release.
Gemeda pointed out that Ethiopia is very active in the struggle for the release of The Five, as they’re known internationally, and asserted that for them this is also a priority issue. He also referred to the friendship and solidarity uniting Ethiopians to the international campaign in favor of this cause.
On behalf of the relatives of The Cuban Five, Mirta Rodriguez, the mother of Guerrero's, appreciated the support expressed by the parliaments, which have been in the forefront of the struggle for their release.
The top African legislator also met with President of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon, and visited places of cultural and economic interest. (Prensa Latina).
