From what I have heard so far, the girl most probably has an Eritrean father and an Ethiopian mother (posibily an Amhara - accent). The house is some sort of Bar, and the woman who records the video owns the Bar and the house. The girl lives with her "mother" who most probably work at the Bar, not as a waitress but some sort of cleaning (she could not properly detach the ice which indicates not sufficient experience as a bar tender). The reason for the abuse seemes to be that the girl had a quarell with a neighbour kid and somehow the girl proudly said she is from Asmara, Eritrea (or that her father is from Asmara, Eritrea). The woman (mother) was not present when the actual quarell was happening, but heard it from the other woman recording the video (the Bar owner, and landlord). This can be heard at the end of the clip when the recording woman says something concerning what had happened earlier, which warranted another slap from the "mother".

There is also another girl involved "Betty", probably the ealder sister of the abused girl. She was quite the whole time which can explain the routine nature of the abuse not only by the "mother" but also buy the recording woman. Another name is also mentioned, "Alem", probably the friend of the recording woman. From the way she laughs and her arrogance ("Betty tilakalech..."), the Bar owner is some sort of sadistic ignorant. The "mother"is most probably systematically persuaded to abuse her child for the pleasure of the Bar owner. This video has landed on You Tube through a customer of the Bar (probably from the Deaspora) who accidentaly found the video on the cellphone of the Bar owner and sneaked it to his own cell - phone.

In any case, the child needs immidiate help. Otherwise she will fall apart mentaly and physically very soon. I have send an email to many Ethiopian websites and the federal police. This morning, I have also came across an association known as ANPPCAN (Association for Nation Wide Action for Protection and Prevention Against Child Abuse and Neglect). This is really heartbreaking story. But if somehow the person who published the video could be contacted that could help to solve the entire problem much easier than is the case right now.

It seems that you-tube had taken down the video. is there another link to it. This is not an isolated incident. Child abuse like this is ramphant. this is a perfect opportunity to educate such things exist even at this age. it will change public opinion for good and abusers will have difficulty to commit such heinous crime on the defenseless

What a heart breaking story i heard today? What is going on in this 3rd worled country by any meanse president Meles Zenawi saw this tragedy happened on my little angel yes, he should stop this kind of child abuse by taking serious action. Our goal worked. The girl who record the abuse came forward and explain. I talked to her with Seifu together and she claims it happened 3 yrs a go and she will expose the mom tomorrow. But the reason she didn't expose the matter long time a go didn't make a sense to me. Phone disconnected in btwn but according to Seifu someone took the video and demanded money from her and now when 10,000 birr reward posted she came forward before they come forward. Truth will come out but to me she is responsible for hiding a crime.

Thanks for the good news. You said the incident took place some three years ago. I hope the beautiful child is alive and well. I am sure it has never been easy to live before or after that in such abusive situation. I am heartened that there are a lot of good willing men and women who are ready to act based on humanity - the bond that binds as together. It was nice idea to put a reward to expose the perpetrators. To me, all in the video except the child are guilty. But they should face trail and defend themselves for sake of fairness, although there is not much to be defended. This video should be a good education for all of us. I know the Horn of African culture in particular and Africa in general, the culture is very repressive for children, women, as well as the mentally disabled people. Some of this culture is reflected here in the forum. I get upset when people use the word 'retard' here in the forum for example. We citizens of the horn of African countries know there are a lot of savagery in our culture much much worse than on this video that pass unnoticed. This case is shocking to us only because it is recorded. We have a long way to go. But at least in this case you tell us good news that the case is close to be solved.

I wait my finger crossed about the well being of the child.
