Smelling Gas and Oil to Ethiopia 90 million people is like a hungry female hyena showing her blood and fresh meat and she will not touch it and leave the seen. Any Gas and Oil in Ogaden is not only beneficial for Tigray but it is going to be for everyone 80 Ethiopian ethnics.
As far as Smali fighters, they are still fighting and the Somalis believe over $100 billion dollars worth of minerals are underneath of Ogaden and that is the sole motivation they have been fighting. If they find massive Oil then from every ethnic of Ethiopians will settle in Ogaden and will finish the fighter from the region.
Suppose there is enoguh oil under the Ogaden desert to pump out a million barreles a day, then at the current price of roughly $90/barrel. that will work out to $90 million a day. The population of Ogaden is not definitely known, some say its around 4 million, others say 7 million. But let's take the higher figure, which works out to about $12/person in oil revenue. $12 is not much, but it can greatly improve the lives of the Ogadenis there who have always led a very harsh life.
But if the oil revenue were to be distributed throughout Ethiopia it will work out to a little more than one dollar a day per person. it simply doesn't make economic sense for the Ogadenis to share the wealth with us, and it is not worthwhile for us to ask they share it. That's one of the reasons i have no interest in sharing the Ogaden oil revenue, even if the Ogadenis were to offer to share it.
I have a lot of business ideas that can truly prosper the Amhara people, we can make a lot more than $12/person per day, if business can be allowed to flourish. We haven't even taken advantage of NEPAD, which would have been worth more than a hundered billion dollars in the the last ten years alone. The Ogadenis can keep all the oil and minerals, we have our own ways of making wealth if we only can find a way to toss away the albatross of unity that is crippling us.
I wish Ogaden would be free, because we would be free too from one more headache.
Let me as you this HM, how would you feel if large deposits of crude oil were to be discovered in Tigray and Ogadenis were to put a gun to your head demanding that you share it with them.
