Edu,

Stop worrying about Eritreans for a minute...please tell us how you feel about selling children as a commodity by your shameful government.

Ethiopia is in desperate need of mandatory birth control.

Now you are talking sense, Yohannes. Intead of bambarding us with white victimization nonsense, we should be discussing serious issues, such as baby production without having the means to support them.

You're just taking this South Africa stuff too seriously, it's just chit-chat, shooting the breeze, you and I have no say in the matter.

Now lets talk about the population problem in Ethiopia. How far are you willing to go, would you approve of forcible sterilization of men who don't look after the children they produce? Are you willing to tolerate the forcible sterilization of homeless women who also have children? How about sterilizing those who give away their children for adoption overseas, should they be sterilized forcibly? How would you approach Ethiopia's massive population problem?

Well said, Junior.

But I also must caution you that the Chinese can go overboard with their population control methods. Read the following story, it says the Chinese government is jailing the parents of those who refuse to be sterilized, it's like Shabia who imprisons the parents of the youth who run away.

There can also be abuse as in the following story,

Doctors sterilise Uzbek women by stealth

Education is the only way and awareness is the key. You can not sterilize people against their will, nor can you force people to have less children than their desire.

Gash,

I wish to reply because you want my reply. But you have to list your concerns about adoption. There are many issues with adoption and I want to be sure what your issues are before I give you an answer that won't change your outlook.

The way I see you question, you seem to suggest that governments should ban adoption (correct me if I understood wrong).

But who are you to speak for the parents who want to give up their kids because they think it's in the best interest of their kids. Who are you to speak for those who adobt and raise kids because they want to give. Who are you to speak for the government who doesn't stand in the way of an exchange between the parties who adopt and the parties that give up kids for adoption?

I also want to hear what your idea is on how to cover the costs and running costs adoptees incurr before and up until they are adopted and become the responsibility of those who adopt them? I say this because you seem to suggest that those adopting shouldn't be made to pay any money. Where would you get the money then? The government (taxing its economically poor people who couldn't afford to adopt domestically to begin with?) how do you finance the kids food, shelter, health and education in a country that doesn't afford welfare for all?

while i'm here, i recommend this book for those wishing to understand about adoption from a person who was internationally adopted - Eritrea to England. it's by hanah pool and it's highly readable. you get it at amazon.com or local library.
