Re: Ethiopia's next leader?

Postby Roha » 16 Jul 2012, 00:07

The bad part of the news will likely come later after the African Union session is done.
Given his health condition, Meles may not come back as a leader. There is a report that Siyum Mesfin, former minister of Foreign Affairs, has arrived in Addis for an emergency session with the top TPLF group, from Beijing on Sunday morning. So, who will succeed Meles Zenawi?
Will the Ethiopian Moslems slow down their protest? They are using the same tactics the Ethiopian imperial armed forces used to depose Hailselassie to create the Dergue after: intense, apparently leaderless movement hidden in the back doors to appear later with uncompromising political demands.
The million dollar question is - who will replace Meles?
Unless, the moslems demand is slowed down or neutralized, the peaceful transition of power within the Tigraians may get a bit complex.

history will repeat itself. it is going to be similar to life after the death of Minilik where lots of poisoning, infighting etc continued for almost 10 years. i would love Azeb or Samora take the power. these people are reckless like Mengistu and their fall from grace will be identical.

i am sure, that big pig (Abay Weldu -The presidant of Tigray) will declare independence and dream to be like issayas in the process giving middle fingure to weyannes in Addis and the rest of the country

Semira,
If the transition process from Meles does not go TPLF's way, do you think Tigray's president, Abay Woldu will pull his ace card, Article 39, and declare Tigray a Republic? With Isaias Afeqit in the north and the rest of Ethiopia and a militant Islam in the south, a republic is not a good idea.

If the Woyannie elite are negotiating with Seye to be part of their leadership group, then they are looking to reconcile with the elite Amara groups. But this is going to be destructive to Azeb and Samora. My hope was that this will be a peaceful and easy transition, given the resources accumulated by the TPLF, however this may not be so if the inner ruling circle within the TPLF's CC members start infighting.
