Sorry, that was back in 1962, and I wasn't even born then.

But this morning my mother-in-law and I cried together as we sat down to watch the following video showing a very sad story of an Ethiopian Sports Hero of Eritrean origin, who in the 60's had helped the Ethiopian National Team -- his team -- win the African cup, but tragedy struck when he was forcibly expelled to Eritrea along with 100,000 other Ethiopians of Eritrean origin by the fascist woyanes in 1998.

His name is Italo Vassalo, and to be honest I had never heard of him before until today, but his story really made me feel very sad. As for my mother-in-law, the story really hits close to home for she is from that generation of Ethiopians who went out in the streets in jubilation when the Ethiopian National team won the African cup in 1962.

I guess it never occurred to her that the evil woyanes would expel a beloved National Sports hero and an icon, and her emotion is the anger anyone feels at having their chain yanked. She is visibly grief-stricken and devastated and I can read it all over her face. Its a day of mourning for her.

Can you show me where on my post I said anthing about my mother-in-law throwing parties and celebrating when tens of thousands of Ethiopians were systematically getting killed, underage girls raped, entire villages set ablaze, thousands arrested for dissent, and 100,000 Ethiopians of Eritrean origin expelled in inhumane conditions ...etc ??

Because all I see is you're trying to put words in my mouth, and I think you're being unreasonable. It is shameful to take such a shocking and saddening event and use it to score political points. It seems a rather obvious case of cherry picking to draw your conclusion on my mother-in-law's sincere tendencies, and I don't think it is fair to criticize her for doing something you would’ve done yourself !!!

it is an amazing story. Every Ethiopian is talking about this great Ethiopian athlete and cursing the Woyannie-Tigraians.
