Distinguished Ethiopian Scientist and chairman of ENUF Dr Kitaw Ejigou has passed away early this morning. He's been receiving treatment for a head injury since last week at North Austin Medical Center in Austin Texas. He was pronounced dead at 1:03 AM. He was injured after falling down while playing basketball last Sunday, according to family members. He was in Austin to visit family members during the Ethiopian Christmas over the weekend ... Students and police clashed at Ayer Tena High School in Addis Ababa today. The fighting started when students staged a peaceful protest demanding the release of detained students and political prisoners. The police entered the school compound and attacked the students. Several parents who tried to intervene to protect their children were also savagely beaten up by police. Police also fired shots at unarmed students. An eyewitness told Ethiopian Review that two large Federal Police trucks filled with students were seen leaving the area. Some of the students taken away are as young as 14 years old... Students in Gonder are now joined by their parents in confronting  Meles Zenawi's Federal Police and private army. Schools are closed in several woredas of Gonder. In Debre Tabor, students have been boycotting classes since January 4. When police and troops savagely attacked the students, they were confronted by angry parents. The troops tried to attack the parents, too. But when they realized that they were outnumbered, they retreated and left the area. Several teachers reported that they have received ultimatum from Woyane cadres who have warned them to either spy on students or face torture, imprisonment and serious charges. It is to be remembered that Melese?s cadres have made a failed attempt of forcing  parents to spy on their children... The notorious Federal Police surrounded high schools and savagely beat students who shouted slogans demanding the release of political prisoners and end of the Meles regime. Eyewitnesses told Ethiopian Review that several students suffered severe injuries.
